Betriebsphase: Nach einigen Anlaufschwierigkeiten läuft der Betrieb sehr gut (Datentransfer, Datenauswertung MonteCarlo Produktion, Data Challenges etc…)

Board Aktivitäten: TAB Treffen etwa monatlich OB Treffen Juli und Oktober sehr effizient, konstruktiv

Erweiterungspläne der Experimente: BaBar Tier A D0 Regional Analysis Centre

GridKa: Ausbauplanung der Internetanbindung

•Internet-Anschluss FZK derzeit 34 Mbit/s

• Übergang auf 155 Mbit/s im Januar 2003

• Teststrecke zum CERN über DFN & Geant mit 1 Gbit/s im Aufbau

• Der Transfer von 1 TeraByte Daten benötigt:~ 4 Tage bei 34 Mbit/s~ 1 Tag bei 155 Mbit/s~ 4 Std. bei 1 Gbit/s

Hohe Netzwerkkosten für Bandbreite und Volumen.Dies sind Betriebskosten und keine Investitionen.

TAB vom 4.9.2002 (Atlas):„...laufen wir Volldampf in der Atlas data challenge Produktion.Das funktioniert bisher sehr gut, das ganze System läuft stabilund effizient, der support ist schnell und flexibel …“.

LHC Computing @ GridKa: Status

• The GridKa did an exellent j ob in providing therequired hardware and basic sof twareinf rastructure on a very t ight t imef rame.

• Alice and Atlas have used the facilit iessuccessfully in world-wide productions.

• CMS has successf ully tested the production SWand uses GridKa for physics analysis jobs.

• LHCb will start using the centre next month.

• The main problem f or the experiments is the lackof own manpower.

LHC Computing @ GridKa: Plans

• All experiments– plan to use more and more ressources and

centres as integrated computing facilties (andhope that the current solutions will scale),

– want to introduce Grid tools to reducemanpower for simulation campains (up to nowworking with Grids eats manpower),

– hope to use LCG-1 for the productions end ofnext year.

• Atlas plans a production on EDG with many morenodes in the near future.

• Alice will learn how to do distributed analysis witha PROOF cluster.
