Dear Andy Thanks for your message. What a great idea it is to stay in your uncle’s cottage. I’m sure we are going to have lots of fun up there! I can come for two weeks starting on 12th October. I hope it won’t be too late in the year for Scotland! A new kind of ticket – a new kind of freedom

Euro-Youth is a new kind of low-cost rail ticket available to young people under 24. It has been designed to take you from London to any one of around 200 selected destinations and let you travel at your own pace.

You can stop off at as many points as you like, for as long as you like within the two-month period that your ticket lasts.

The destinations and the routes you can choose from include the European cities that are most often visited by young travellers from around the world: Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Budapest, Venice and many more. And at prices starting as low as 120 dollars all the fares are terrific value.

There is a choice of one-way or return travel tickets, each valid for two months from the date of departure.

Prices include travel from London and ferry crossings from the UK to mainland Europe. You must have your passport with you when you buy your ticket. You will have to pay extra on express trains on the Continent, such as the French TGV services, and for sleeping accommodation on other trains.

You are strongly recommended to take out travel insurance for the period of your journey. This is quickly and easily arranged where you can buy this Euro-Youth ticket.

Planning Your Journey

We recommend two publications, in particular, to help you plan your Trans-Euro journey.

The first is a budget guide to Europe, of which there are many available. Particularly good is Across Europe by Fay Nuutinen and Bendt Larsen. It covers accommodation, visas, food, sights, customs and even local transport.

The second is Multiplan's European Timetable, the only one covering rail and ferry services across the whole of Europe. It is published monthly and also contains plans of major city centres with

station locations and detailed notes on how to use the book.

Where to stay

There is plenty of budget-priced accommodation available in every country in Europe, including Youth Hostels, YMCA Hostels, pensions, 'sleepins' and even convents in Italy. Some people like to save a day by catching the overnight train - but be prepared for fellow travellers to talk into the early hours!

If you're stuck, local tourist offices can usually help to find you a bed.

A new kind of ticket – a new kind of freedom

Euro-Youth is a new kind of low-cost rail ticket available to young people under 24. It has been designed to take you from London to any one of around 200 selected destinations and let you travel at your own pace.

You can stop off at as many points as you like, for as long as you like within the two-month period that your ticket lasts.

The destinations and the routes you can choose from include the European cities that are most often visited by young travellers from around the world: Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Budapest, Venice and many more. And at prices starting as low as 120 dollars all the fares are terrific value.

There is a choice of one-way or return travel tickets, each valid for two months from the date of departure.

Prices include travel from London and ferry crossings from the UK to mainland Europe. You must have your passport with you when you buy your ticket. You will have to pay extra on express trains on the Continent, such as the French TGV services, and for sleeping accommodation on other trains.

You are strongly recommended to take out travel insurance for the period of your journey. This is quickly and easily arranged where you can buy this Euro-Youth ticket.

Planning Your Journey

We recommend two publications, in particular, to help you plan your Trans-Euro journey.

The first is a budget guide to Europe, of which there are many available. Particularly good is Across Europe by Fay Nuutinen and Bendt Larsen. It covers accommodation, visas, food, sights, customs and even local transport.

The second is Multiplan's European Timetable, the only one covering rail and ferry services across the whole of Europe. It is published monthly and also contains plans of major city centres with

station locations and detailed notes on how to use the book.

Where to stay

There is plenty of budget-priced accommodation available in every country in Europe, including Youth Hostels, YMCA Hostels, pensions, 'sleepins' and even convents in Italy. Some people like to save a day by catching the overnight train - but be prepared for fellow travellers to talk into the early hours!

If you're stuck, local tourist offices can usually help to find you a bed.

Thema 1: Chatten, lesen, fernsehen

Smartphone und Computer statt Buch und Zeitung? Die Sorge vieler Eltern sei laut

Spiegel-online unbegründet. Klassische Medien, vor allem Bücher, stiegen in der Gunst

der Jugendlichen. Dies zeigt die JIM-Studie von 2011 (Jugend, Information, Multi-Media).

Schildern Sie, wie Ihr Mediengebrauch aussieht, und zeigen Sie, wo Ihrer Meinung nach

Thema 2: Lehrlinge werden immer früher rekrutiert

„Die Zahl der Schulabgänger ist in den letzten Jahren stetig gesunken. Gleichzeitig

herrscht unter den Lehrbetrieben immer grössere Konkurrenz: Sie bekunden Mühe damit,

ihre Lehrstellen zu besetzen. Im Kampf um die besten Lehrlinge greifen sie daher

vermehrt zu unlauteren Mitteln – ihnen wird vorgeworfen, dass sie Lehrstellen immer

früher vergeben. Teilweise werden Verträge schon vor den Sommerferien, also noch im

zweiten Oberstufenjahr, ausgehandelt.

Das verstösst gegen den Ehrenkodex, der auf die Ende der 1990er-Jahre lancierte Aktion

«Fairplay 01.11» der Schweizer Berufsbildung zurückgeht. Dieser fordert die Betriebe

dazu auf, vor dem 1. November des 9. Schuljahres keine Lehrverträge abzuschliessen.“
