“Excuse me, but I think that seat is mine”
1- [Cannon, George Quayle]. The Delegate from Utah. The Position of George Q. Cannon, to whom the
Seat was Awarded. Reply to a Pamphlet Issued in Behalf of A.G. Campbell. Salt Lake City: Deseret News
Company, 1881. First Edition. 24 + I-LVIIpp. Octavo [20.5 cm] Printed green string bound wrappers.
Missing rear cover and some of the backstrip minor damp stain to lower outside corner otherwise very
good.
This short work is a spirited defense of Cannon's win as Territorial Delegate and a condemnation of
Governor Murray certifying the election against the wishes of the voters. This election would also bring
renewed attention to the practice of polygamy in Utah, and by Cannon in particular. Uncommon.
"In the fall and early winter of 1880 it was rumored and whispered around Salt Lake City that whatever
the result of the count of actual votes cast at the election for delegate, Mr. Allen G. Campbell would be
declared elected, and would be foisted, by some mysterious means, into Congress as the delegate
representing Utah, although it soon became well known he had received but 1,357 votes, to 18,568 votes
cast for Mr. Geo. Q. Cannon." - p.1
'Declaration of result of election by and certificate of Governor Murray.' p.lvii. Flake/Draper 2753.

Lengthy Run of Rare Schismatic Periodical
2- [Glendenning, Maurice L.] [Order of Aaron]. Aaron's Star [Newsletter]. Salt Lake City: Order of Aaron,
the True Church of God, 1961-1982. 67 issues. Octavos [21.5 cm] Stapled wrappers. Mimeographed
contents. All issues better than very good. Most with mailing labels.
Large run of newsletters from the Order of Aaron. This is only the second time that we have encountered
ephemera from the Order of Aaron, the previous time was a single issue of this periodical.
This is the official periodical for the Order of Aaron, a utopian community that is based in Eskdale, which
is at the southern end of the Snake Valley near the Utah border with Nevada.
Originally considered an LDS schismatic group, due to the founder, Maurice Glendenning’s, previous
association with the Mormon Church. Glendenning was excommunicated from the LDS Church in 1945,
after the founding of the House of Aaron.
"Come and share, through our newsletter, our joy and assurance that God is at our helm and that He will
yet lead His people into the daily offerings of our lives in service to Him as Levites will be acceptable
before Him."

”The Conklings began their research in the 1920s
and continued it up to the time of publication.
What began as a history of the organization
quickly evolved into the primary source of
information on the Butterfield Overland Mail, the
first great overland postal service from the
Mississippi River to the Pacific Coast. Roscoe, a
mining engineer, and his music teacher wife
personally traveled over 65,000 miles and took
over 4,000 photographs, as well as interviewing
those with personal, firsthand knowledge to
document its path. The reviews were almost
embarrassing in their praise. Later scholars
following their pioneer work have agreed with
Texas historian A.C. Greene, who stated that their
efforts 'stands out magnificently.' With its detailed
information on routes, the various stations, and the personnel." - Clark & Brunet 58.

William L. Sublette, and before his death in 1838.
Scores of letters, accounts, diaries, and newspaper

brutal treatment of the Acoma.
"Don Juan de Onate, colonizer of New Mexico, its
first governor and only adelantado, merits a high
place among the first pioneers of the United
States. It was Onate, who, after he finally received
the coveted privilege of conquering and pacifying
the province of New Mexico in 1595, established
the first European settlements - San Juan de Los
Caballeros and San Gabriel - in northern New
Mexico, more than a thousand miles from Mexico
City. At this great distance from the heart of the
Spanish empire in the New World there now arose
a new center of expansion, a new focus for
exploration of the land and for conversion of the
Indians." - from the Introduction.
