Piraten vor Westafrika

Im Golf von Guinea entsteht ein neuer Piraten-Hotspot. Dort wird, von Nigeria bis Ghana, immer mehr Öl und Gas gefördert. Das weckt Begehrlichkeiten. Anders als vor Somalia geht es hier weniger um Lösegeld als vielmehr um Beute.Anders als in Somalia gibt es in Nigeria, dem bevölkerungsreichsten Land Afrikas, eine Regierung und eine funktionierende Infrastruktur. Und: Das Land besitzt Bodenschätze - vor allem Öl und Erdgas. Im Golf von Guinea, den Gewässern vor Nigeria, weckt das Begehrlichkeiten. Die Piraten im Golf von Guinea gelten als besonders gewalttätig. 2009 etwa töteten sie den 1. Offizier des deutschen Tankers "Cancale Star" bei einem Überfall. Die Piraten stören den Handel in der Region. Die Küstenwachen der Anrainerstaaten sind zum Teil nicht stark genug. Nigeria, Benin und Togo haben sich jetzt zusammengetan, um die Piraten besser bekämpfen zu können
