Branding Idea 1

Page 28: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

28

J. Walter Thomspon:

Somewhere in your product, or in your business, there is a ‘difference’, an IDEA that can be developed into a story so big, so vital, and so compelling to your public as to isolate your product from its competitors, and make your public think of it as distinctly a different kind of product.

Page 29: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

A Brand Idea:

Is a definition of what the brand stands for in the minds of consumers.

Transcends product functional benefits or attributes.

Drives the brand mission, sense of longevity.

Reflects a position and attitude towards a problem the brand is supposed solve

Your position - this is about showing that you care about

the things that we care about. It is partly taken from

the Cluetrain idea that people are no longer

interested in your positioing only your position and partly from John Grant's idea that

brands need to find a bigger enthusiasm to have.

The promise is the way in which you (implicitly or explicitly) prove to the

consumer your credibility in holding your position and

what you intent to do about it.

This is an outward facing crystallisation of the postion and promise ideally exploiting the tools and tricks of

edibility, memorability and transmission I am so keen on.

I.e. Dirt is good works because it is bold, contrary and based on a familiar structural form. Critically this cannot simply be an idea that the brand has had but should be

the idea behind the brand.

“We should think not about what advertisements do to people, but about how people use and respond to advertisements.”

Stephen King, What is a brand?

Page 92: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

‘Intense response’ means ‘involving the consumer’, activating the consumers brain, not just pouring ideas into it.

Tim Hopkins, Usable Interfaces Blog

Page 93: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

Response:

Page 94: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

Stimulus:

Der eine Punkt, den Werbung machen muss. Das Markenversprechen, die Brand

Proposition.

Page 95: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

6

Page 96: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

(1)Channel Thinking

Page 97: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

Page 98: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

Page 99: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

Page 100: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

(2)Context Thinking

Page 101: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"
Page 102: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

(3)The Medium is the Message

Page 103: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

103

Page 104: Creative Brief und Creative Briefing / "Why to" und "How to"

When people watch an ad on the television it is delivered to them in a commercial break. A break in the content that is overtly signposted as an opportunity for people to sell their goods and services and understood as such. The audience has been conditioned to decode the content they then see as ads and that their job is to figure out what is for sale and who is selling it. No matter how eyewateringly creative or side splittingly enjoyable the work, this is clearly understood as a commercial transaction between advertiser and audience. And though it’s hard to quantify exactly, it is clear that this context adds considerably to the success of the content.
