Counselor TimeThe Month for Giving Thanks!

The Smallest of Thanks

The smallest of thanks is always worth more than the effort it takes to give it. ~ Author unknown

This month during Counselor Time, we will focus on various character traits associated with

ARTGreetings from the Art Room!

Our Anthony Artists are busy withprojects! Kindergarten and 1stgrade created blob monsters withpaint, straws and googly eyes.2nd grade finished creepy houseswith doors and windows thatactually open and close. 3rdGraders are finishing smashedpumpkins made from paint, straws and colored pencils. 4th and 5th graders are finishing Blackcat paintings that are really cool! Take care and keep panting,

Mr. Waldron

Veteran’s Day (patriotism, sacrifice, courage, and citizen-ship). Then toward the end of the month, we will discuss ways to give thanks to those in our lives. We will focus on this concept: “Say thank you to those who serve you in both big ways and small. It will brighten their day and yours as well!” If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 913-684-1500.

Coach’s CornerFor the month of November we will be working on cup stacking, volleyball, and badminton. Each year we take part in the STACK UP Chal-lenge which tries to set a Guinness Book of World Records for the most cupstackers in one day. Students will be racing friends, building something creative and timing themselves on a 6 stack. 3rd-5th grade will compete in a challenge to see who can stack the 3-6-3 stack the fastest.

Please remember to send your child to school in tennis shoes on PE days. They have PE every other day.

School Psych Third Graders at Antho-ny have been doing a great job with practicing their flexible thinking skills in our Superflex social skill groups. We have been using our brain sensors to defeat rock brain and use skills that will help use solve problems for ourselves.

School Psychology Awareness Week (SPAW) is November 11-15. School Psychol-ogists work behind the scenes with our students in multiple ways.

WHAT YOU CAN DO • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine. • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before. • Don’t let your child stay home unless she is truly sick. Keep in mind complaints of a stomach ache or headache can be a sign of anxiety and not a reason to stay home. • Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session. • If your child is going to be absent from school, please notify the office: 913-684-1500.

Social worker NewsletterAttendance Matters! It is hard to believe we are in the 2nd Quarter! It is at this time that we want to remind everyone the importance of excellent attendance. Frequent absences in elementary school have been shown to significantly affect a student’s reading skills. According to research, missing 2 days a month negatively impacts a student’s reading skills. Attendance also affects social growth. Elementary students are still learning social and emotional skills that will help them throughout their life.

IMPORTANT INFO • School Hours- 8:10-3:20 • Students who arrive at school more than 30 minutes after the start of the school day will be considered absent for the morning. Students who leave more than 30 minutes early at the end of the school day will be considered absent for the afternoon. • After 10 excused absences, all additional absences will be considered unexcused unless it involves a medical condition verified by a note from the doctor, legal proceedings verified by court documents, or other extenuating circumstances excused by the building principal.

If there are reasons why your child is not coming to school (school phobia, relationships with peers, academ-ic difficulties, resources needed, etc.), please reach out to the school so that we are aware and can attempt to address the underlying issue.
