Frédéric Chaslin, the world renowned conductor and composer, first started as a concert pianist after winning the international Milosz Magin Competition in Paris, 1985.

He studied with Aldo Ciccolini and Daniel Barenboim and performed all major piano concertos under the baton of his old friend Bertrand De Billy. He has accompanied many of the world’s greatest singers including Margaret Price, Waltraud Mayr, Thomas Hampson and Gerard Sousay.

In October 2001 he achieved one of every pianist's dreams by playing Beethoven’s 5th Concerto with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, in a series of three evenings at the Vienna State Opera.

Frédéric likes to perform as a pianist and conductor at the same time. Last year he gave many performances of the Rhapsody in Blue with the Israel Philharmonic, and this season he has performed Ravel’s G major Concerto with the Nagoya Philharmonic and the Trieste Opera Orchestra.

He has recorded the complete Beethoven Cello sonatas with Henri Demarquette.

Frédéric began his conducting career as Daniel Barenboim’s assistant at the Bayreuth Festival for the Ring Cycle in 1998 and at the Orchestre de Paris from 1987-89.

From 1989-91 he was Pierre Boulez’s assistant at the Ensemble Intercontemporain in Paris. He was then appointed Musical Director of the Opera and Symphony Orchestra in Rouen in 1991.

Frédéric conducts regularly in Germany, Spain and Italy. His United States debut was to great acclaim with Il Trovatore at the Metropolitan Opera in November 2002, followed by I Vespri Siciliani and Les Contes d’Hoffmann in 2004-2005. In 2005, he conducted a new production of Roméo and Juliette in Los Angeles with Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon.

In April 2007 he was praised in Nagoya, Japan, for a sensational debut conducting Ravel’s G major Concerto and Berlioz’s Symphony Fantastique from the piano.

Further projects include the world premiere of his own opera, Napoleon and a visit to the Metropolitan Opera New York for Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Massenet’s Manon with Anna Netrebko. He will also perform as both pianist and conductor at concerts in Trieste and Verona.
