We ride. We ride hard. We do not complain. We take our pull. Rain does not stop us. The harder the wind blows, the stronger we get. Cobbles do not faze us, they only push us to go faster. Mountains are conquered, not avoided. Honor is paramount. Bikes are tools to accomplish our goals. We get them dirty and we polish them clean. We are humble. Our legs speak, our mouths do not. Words are hollow, actions tell all.Inner strength drives us. We are more determined and committed than those around us. We are competitive not with others but with ourselves. When we fall off, we get back on. We do not stop until we reach our goal.

A life where cycling is the true center. That’s the perfect way to describe our CEO Jochim Aerts. He was bitten by the cycling bug as a young guy. Born in Belgium and raised in a true cycling-minded family. Those are the ideal ingredients to let your passion evolve into a way of life.

Ridley is based in the heart of cycling: Belgium, Flanders. Cycling classics and endless amount of kermesse races - this is the place where you learn what cycling is all about.

We have a wind tunnel next door, dozens of cycling companies around us and cycling genes in every employee. We live cycling. We breathe cycling. That’s something you feel in every pedal stroke, in every turn, in every climb and every descent.

Tested on Pave

Every Ridley model is “tested on pavé”. This is something we proudly display on our frames.

“Pavé” is a reference to the French le pavé, which means brick or paving stone. “Tested on pavé” means they’re tested on the worst Belgian roads out there. Ridley bikes need to succeed testing on smooth rolling roads as well as withstanding the shocks of the rawest cobbles. That way, we can deliver the bikes knowing they’ve been tested and approved by real Flandriens.

But we don’t just stop there. We replicate those famous Flanders conditions in test laboratories and computer models. We are known for delivering the highest quality frames in the world: light, stiff, durable, and ready to #BeTOUGH. Ridley is known for its collaboration with pro riders.

André Greipel is perhaps our best-known tester in the peloton. When a bike can withstand his Pro Tour winning sprint power and still deliver, then we know it’s approved. Perhaps we might switch to a new sticker saying:

“Tested on pavé”

The Noah was introduced in the peloton in 2007. It was the start of the first sprint specific Ridley and one of the first in the peloton. The degree of stiffness was incredible and it helped McEwen to reel in victories.

One year later and halfway through the season, Robbie McEwen had the possibility to test out the first aero Noah. It toed the line in all its black glory.

Aerodynamics gained importance year after year and Ridley was once again one of the pioneers. The bike evolved with integrated brakes and a teardrop tube shape without comprising the stiffness of the bike. The Noah ISP, the Noah RS, Noah Fast and Noah SL raced along with Robbie McEwen and then André Greipel. They made for true sprinters, indeed.

To this date Andre Greipel has won more than 70 victories at Pro Tour level on the Noah family, and the story continues…

Samstag, 4. März – Siena, Italien. Ich ziehe meine Vorhänge auf. Etwas Regen, dunkle Wolken. Ich muss lächeln. Ich mag Regen. Strade Bianche ist ein extrem hartes Rennen. Weiße Schotterstrecken. Steile Hügel. Unglaublich anstrengend.

Saturday, March, 4 – Sienna, Italy. Opened my curtains. Little bit of rain, dark clouds. I smile. I like rain. Strade Bianche is a super tough race. White gravel sections. Steep hills. Insanely tough. It suits me.

We did a recon yesterday and it was still sunny and not too cold. Damn. I like bad weather. Rain. Cold. Suffering. So, a dry and dusty Strade Bianche? Too bad. When we came back to the hotel, we looked once again at the weather forecast. Rain during the night, in the morning, and possibly rain in the afternoon. That smile started to grow.

As a U23 in 2012, I did the Tour of Tuscany. Stage 3 circled around Cavriglia and used similar gravel sections. My legs were fantastic that day, but on a section 3km from the finishing line I had a flat. Fabio Aru and Francesco Bongiorno were gone. I managed to finish fourth, but I lost the GC to Aru. Pretty pissed that day, but now I just remember the feeling of those good legs.

You know, cycling is often a mental game. Your legs hurt. They hurt like hell, but motivation, inspiration, and eagerness help you to conquer that pain and push you further. When you can start a race with a memory of insanely good legs, even though that memory is from five years ago, it helps. It motivates you and imprints a feeling in your mind. A feeling of “I can do this.”

With that mind and the weather forecast, I wanted to make sure the race would unfold in a way I liked. As hard as possible. I checked with my team mates and we started to form a plan. What if we made sure all hell broke loose at 100km from the line? Sean De Bie, Tomasz Marcynski, Jürgen Roelandts, and Maxime Monfort would raise the pace. We would try to single out the leaders of the teams, and Benoot and I would start a battle, man-to-man, against the other riders. If this works, it could be an awesome race.

Man-to-man

Solid breakfast. One last tactical review of the race. Check with my team mates.n“How’s the feeling?” “Good.” “You’re ready to attack after 50km?” “Yes.” “Okay, so am I!”

And we’re off! We are a few kilometers out and over the radio I hear: “Heavy rain in Siena”. We start in Siena, race through cities nearby and then circle back. The race will be tougher than usual. Perfect! A new confidence boost.

The first gravel section passes. A group of five is the day’s breakaway. At least, for a couple more kilometers. Until we start pulling… Mental smile. The bike is reacting perfectly. I’ve chosen the Helium SLX. Actually, not “chosen”… for me there’s no competition. That bike is so light, so stiff, but I still have a comfortable feeling.

For this race, the Fenix SL is perhaps more suitable. Tiesj Benoot always races on that bike. It’s a bit heavier and I’m a weight weenie. Every gram counts.

The second sector is really steep uphill on gravel. Perfect test for the legs. I follow the set pace and they feel good. That 2012 feeling. I inform the team and we go to the front. In Montalcino there’s a long climb and a quick descent, followed by a long gravel section. Perfect place to start the battles.

Sean De Bie was super strong that day. He kept on pulling on that peloton. Every time I look back there are fewer and fewer competitors on our wheels. I know my time to attack is coming. I start to charge up. Sector eight is coming. Monte Sante Marie. A two-step-climb, on gravel, of 11.5km.

It hurts like hell. I’m going to attack on it.

Timing is everything

Just before the sector, there is a descent. De Bie accelerates. I know it is my time. We start the climb and—BAM—I attack. I know the steepest part is at the beginning. Then some lower percentages. If I reach the top on my own, I I’ll aim for a solo. I like solos. There’s something heroic about them.

I just fall a few meters short. Damn it! Van Avermaet, Kwiatkowski, Stybar, Dumoulin and others join the group and we start to look at each other. The race situation is changing constantly, so I decide to keep on attacking until only the best guys are able to follow.

At that moment, we are all so tired that we do the climbs on our inner chain rings. Fatigue is gaining the upper hand. I have to pitbull a couple of times in Stybar or Van Avermaet’s wheels. My muscles are so sore, I can’t feel a thing anymore, just my legs hurting my body.

Angriff!

80 Meter. Verdammt, wir müssen reintreten. Van Avermaet weist auf Stybar und mich. „Übernehmen“, heißt das. Also lege ich los.

Attack! Not me this time, but Kwiatkowski. I poker and wait. Stybar or Van Avermaet need to close the gap. They think the same of me.

15 meters. Still doable. 30 meters. Can close that gap if I want. 80 meters. Damn, we need to start riding. Van Avermaet signs to Stybar and me. “Take Over,” it means. So I do. Kwiatkowski is within our reach.

I’m on Van Avermaet’s wheel. Almost my turn to take the lead. My legs feel okay. I take the lead. Keep the pace. I could do a turn of over a minute, but after 20 seconds I feel the power starting to fade. Better save it for one last punch in the streets of Siena.

We dive into the narrow streets of Siena. When we take a right turn, we see the road going up. We go under the gate of Siena. We see the fences taking us off that main road into the small paved roads. It started to hurt a long time ago, but now it’s time for one last punch.

Van Avermaet and Stybar both look fatigued. That mud on their faces, clothes, and bikes. It gives a certain CX look you don’t expect in road racing. No, sorry, Paris-Roubaix in the rain causes the same faces. But, no time to divert.

Van Avermaet raises the tempo. Stybar follows, so do I. I feel there’s room for one more punch. BAM¬—just passed Stybar. The downside is we’ve reached the top. Van Avermaet is still in front of me and there’s no way I can pass him.

I pass the line and suddenly I feel my legs screaming. That race hurt. A lot. The soigneur takes my bike. I take one look at it. You can hardly read the white Ridley on it. Cleaning those bikes will be one hell of a job.

“Disc Brakes on a road bike? They’re a game changer.”

- Adam Hansen, Lotto Soudal Pro Cycling Team

Wirklich beeindruckt.

I’ve been training on disc brakes for a while now, even completing more than 5000 kms on the Ridley Fenix SL Disc with Campagnolo. They have come a long way, but are now at that high-end level we’re used to.

As a training bike I don’t think I could go back to rim brakes. Disc brakes on a road bike are a full package: stiffer frame, stiffer quick release system (through axles) and better brakes.

On your sunny rides, the braking quality is equally as good as your days on the bike in the rain. The ease of braking is the same difference as the ease of changing gears when electronic brakes came out. It’s a game changer.

The performance is very modular, not sudden, not scary, but like a luxury. At first it’s not a bit like you would imagine a disc brake road bike would be like. Braking at first feels almost non-existent and just a slightly harder pull on your levers and you can get to a full stop faster than any other bike. I’m impressed. Very impressed.

Belgium has 160 breweries. The Tour of Flanders 2017 that went from Antwerp to Oudenaarde passed 16 of them. Thirsty anyone?

Riders burn 123,900 calories during an average Tour de France. Belgians like to compare everything to beer, so every Tour rider can drink 829 pints of beer to break even calorie-wise. Sounds like a party?

When I first started riding a race bike about 8 years ago, I had zero cycling experience except for commuting to school and back. I had always been intrigued by the Tour de France but that doesn’t teach you how to clip into your pedals or repair a flat tire.

I bought my first bike blindly following the recommendations of a good mate. Didn’t know the difference between a carbon or an aluminum frame. And I definitely had no idea what kind of an adventure my new “friend” would take me on.

As I had always been a competitive runner, I wanted things to go fast. I wanted to feel, look, and be like a real cyclist. It took me a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to become the rider I am today. You can call it a real #BeTOUGH project. It was more trial and error than I wanted it to be. Two Steps forward, one step back. Very frustrating because I just lacked the knowledge I needed to enter the real and beautiful world of cycling.

The Lotto Soudal Ladies gave me the chance to make my dream of living life as a pro-athlete come true. Riding with professional race bikes, lucky me! I am still learning; every race teaches me something new.

For all these reasons, I am happy to share my experiences with the La Ridley community. La Ridley provides important tips, tricks, and support to help female riders progress from recreational riding to competition from a uniquely competitive female perspective.

Dienstag, 27. April – Flughafen Eindhoven.

.

Tuesday, April 27 – Eindhoven Airport. Passengers for flight W61072 to Katowice, Poland, can board now. Hmmm, crap, I’ve just passed customs when I hear we can already board our plane. Not much time to spare. I arrive at the gate and my team mates are all waiting for me. No lecture on my tardiness though, only congratulations. Only two days ago, I won my first UCI race, EPZ Omloop van Borsele. I can’t stop smiling when I think about it.

Thank God we have some extra days planned in before the race. My legs are still feeling a bit sore. The flight and the bus drive to Orlova, Czech Republic, won’t do them any good either.

About the race: it’s called Gracia Orlova, a Czech race around the city of Orlova. It’s a stage race that contains every aspect of road cycling: climbing big and smaller hills, flat, and a TT. Four days, five stages against 140 other women. Luckily, five of them are my team mates.

I’ve chosen the Jane SL to race on over the upcoming days, I really like racing this bike. It’s stiff and explosive. Exactly what I need now.

Äh ... gutes Wetter? Hallo?

Alle sehen uns an.

Um, Good Weather? Hello?

We had two training days before the race. It wasn’t expected to be an easy race. The weather took a turn to the worse. Full gas raining and it won’t stop for the next 72 hours.

And so, the race started. We arrived, I got ready for the race, took a look outside and… it’s snowing! Are you kidding me? Did the Gods of Rain, Storms and Hell all team up for this race?

I decided to put on my shorts. Yes, you heard me. I did put Vaseline on my legs, though. I put on arm warmers, a warm base layer, jersey, body, my favorite Sockeloen socks, overshoes, and long gloves. I thought it was enough. Boy, was I wrong.

We start with a downhill. After 5km I’m thinking: “Hell no, I’m not continuing in this weather. Are you insane? I’m freaking freezing!” There is, unfortunately, only one solution:

Attack!

I get four girls with me. I’m happy to be in the break, so we can start taking turns. I’m starting to get warmer, except for my fingers. Luckily, there’s the team car. Mechanic Martijn hands over some new gloves. Nope, won’t work. I can’t get my wet gloves off. Martijn needs to take them off and put on the new ones. I thought having a lackey would more pleasant. Perhaps under other circumstances?

Stop Looking at Us

New gloves and good news! My team mates have torn up the peloton. They’re approaching us with 15 other girls. I wait for them. Oh God, slowing down a bit, I immediately get extremely cold.

They close the gap on us and I go back to the car to put on some extra clothes. Again, I cannot do it myself, I’m so cold the mechanic needs to put it on for me.

Our group is too big. Everyone is looking at us. I’m warming up a bit. Actually, “a bit” could be the overstatement of the year. But it’s enough to think: “Screw it, I’m attacking again. Time to put that reactive Jane SL to good use.”

Attack!

I ride full gas and when I look back I find out two team mates have followed. There are four of us leading the race and I’ve got two team mates with me. Time to get tactical on our Austrian competitor.

Attack!

3km to go and I attack first. The Austrian girl should react, but she looks at my team mates. I’m loose! Am I going to win again? Taking yellow in the first stage? Keep pushing… Oooh God, this is steep.

There’s the finish line. I look back and… I’m still alone… I’m winning and taking YELLOW!!

That Tingling Feeling

Victory! But first, new clothes. I ride downhill and go to the team bus. I find my team mate Anna when I walk inside. I’m almost crying from the pain in every bit of my body. I’m so, so, so cold. Luckily, Anna is able to help me get my clothes off because I cannot move my hands anymore.

We thought the first stage was hard, but the second one was even harder. We needed to climb a lot. I don’t know how we survived this stage, but I know I am really lucky with my team mates. We kept supporting each other during the day and kept riding out front together. My team mate Anouska even went on to win the sprint.

Back on the bus again, there was my angel, Anna. She helped me get out of my clothes and into the shower. Oh God, that feeling when your body is starting to defrost. Like ants crawling under your skin and stinging every millimeter.

Was. Für. Eine. Woche.

After the stage, I took a look at my Pioneer. We have an average temperature of -2.4 degrees and my normalized power is 217.4 Watts over 100km.

Reeling in that Victory

Two days, three stages to go. I rode the most insane TT of my life and even won it! It secured my overall lead. Just what I needed going into those last stages. Thanks to the team, I secured the GC and won my first stage race ever. Anouska Koster even came second, and Moniek Tenniglo third. A 1-2-3 of WM3 Pro Cycling at the GC!

What. A. Week. I found new levels of #BeTOUGH. Actually, I hope I won’t need it again anytime soon.

“What matters the most to me? The feeling of a bike. That

I need to feel a bike. To feel like I’m united with it. Like it’s a piece of my body, like my legs and arms. Stiffness, comfort—those are terms to describe a bike, but you can’t tell how it feels until you ride it. It needs to be spot on. And that’s what matters to me, the feeling of a bike.

The Ridley Aura SLX gives me that feeling. The bike is made to conquer hills and mountains. Because it’s so light, climbing feels less painful, which motivates me to go out and look for the toughest climbs to test myself every time again. It motivates me and that’s why I think this bike suits me perfectly.

I received the Aura SLX just before the Arden Classics. We (me and the Aura) proved ourselves pretty quickly. I reached podium in every Classic: Amstel Gold Race, Fleche Wallonne, and Liege-Bastogne-Liege. My victory at this year’s Women’s Tour was on the Aura as well…

But that final piece of puzzle why I like this bike? Safety. I feel confident and secure downhill. No matter what situation, I feel in control. Powerful and yet safe—the perfect combination, right?

A summer morning with Liz

by Elisabeth ‘liz’ Kellerer

I’m so much more a morning person than an evening person. I’ve always been. That probably comes from my mom. You can give your day so much more when you get up early and there’s literally no better feeling than already having something achieved while most people are still asleep. Every season has its own special morning vibes, the absolute darkness in winter, the deep fog in fall and the shy light in the spring. But the early summer mornings are maybe the most special ones: I love the silence, the fresh air, the bright orange of the rising sun, the fog over the fields, the wet grass, when you can already feel that the day will be a hot one – every little detail that announces a brand new day full of opportunities.

Whereas many people need a strong cup of coffee and a shower first thing in the morning to get active for the day, I found that I feel best when I start my day with a cup of my favorite black tea – and a morning swim, bike or run. It is best during sunrise.

When my alarm goes off at 5 am this morning, I feel tired, I’m not going to lie, I feel so incredibly tired and I’m only one wink away from falling back asleep. But I know it’s going to be a wonderful summer day and I really don’t want to miss what this day has to offer. I put on my cycling clothes (because once I wear them I won’t go back to bed, I hope) and prepare a strong cup of black tea (it’s so strong they call it “builders brew”) to drink on our balcony. The air is fresh, the sky is touched in some light blue and I see the first sun rays. I’m still tired.

#outsideisfree

Back in our living room, my Liz is leaning against my indoor trainer and I’m so thankful that I get to ride outside – which is not even guaranteed in summer when you live in Germany. My Liz is my motivation. It’s like we’re a match made in heaven. And that’s not only because of the name. We spent several hours on the indoor trainer before we finally had our first bike ride outdoors on a crisp cold day in March. Due to a long knee injury story, I had to ride a lot on the indoor trainer, trying to stay active without putting too much pressure on my knee. It was a lot of easy spinning, focused on using both legs with the same intensity, pushing, pulling, finding confidence in my right leg again. The first outdoor ride was good. Exhausting, but good. Cycling definitely was one of

the key elements to my fast and good recovery. As the months passed, my fitness level got better and I found more and more confidence in riding my bike again. I train with a schedule, but I also love the easy rides like the one I’m about to do today.

I grab my gear and carry my bike to the elevator. I don’t want to wake the entire house by walking downstairs in my cycling shoes. The house is dark and outside it’s still cold. The streets are empty. And I absolutely adore the silence. Just the birds singing and the sound of my Liz SL. Easy pedaling. Hearing my own breath. Feeling my heart beat. My body is slowly waking up. It’s 5:45 when I reach the bike path and the smile on my face couldn’t be any bigger: I got all I wanted. A bright orange sun rising above the foggy, golden fields. We ride on the bike path, all alone, towards the sun, and I’m so in awe of how beautiful this world is.

We make our way along the river, pass some more fields, ride through a little part of the forest and finally reach our destination: the lake. I take a moment to dip my feet into the surprisingly warm water and sit on the shore, watching the swans wake up and the sun turn into a bright yellow, before I grab my Liz and ride back home, being 100% happy about not going back to sleep this morning. My day couldn’t have started any better.

“My first year with the pros was one of trial & error.“

- Puck Moonen, Lotto Soudal Ladies

53

My first year with the pros was one of trial and error. I made a lot of mistakes in races, training, rest, and nutrition. As this season has progressed, I’ve learned a lot and the number of mistakes I make is decreasing. My actions in the peloton are becoming better and better. I feel stronger and more stable on my bike. I can more easily defend my position. The difference between this year and last year is huge. I feel fitter, more skilled. So, my results are better as well. If I can make such big progress every year, my future looks promising!

The Dorpenomloop Wijk and Aalburg, and La Course are the two moments of this season I’m proudest of. I survived the first shift during the Dorpenomloop. I ended up in the first group with Marianne Vos. It’s a big race close to my hometown, so my parents came to see me. They were so proud to see me finish in 17th place.

Recently, I raced La Course by TdF with a finish on the legendary Col d’Izoard. I didn’t race to win, but to learn. I enjoyed racing on that mountain. The fans kept on yelling and cheering all race long. Everybody encouraged the cyclists to give everything they had to climb that steep mountain.

I’ve had a lot of difficulties with my weight and nutrition this year. Finding the right balance between losing weight and achieving my goals during training sessions and races was hard, but I’m learning.

With the Lotto Soudal Ladies, we ride the Liz SL. It’s very comfortable on cobblestones and those typical Belgian roads. The bike feels unbelievably confident! Yet, it still manages to surprise me in sprints and uphill.

For every triathlete, there’s only one big goal every year: the Ironman in Hawaii, the triathlon world championships. It’s the one event that every media outlet on the planet picks up on. Automatically, every athlete wants to be at their best over there.

I’ve been a member of the Itzu (pronounced “It’s You”) Triathlon Team since 2017, coached by Luc Van Lierde, a triathlon legend. Actually, Luc had already been my coach since 2016. Last year, we worked a lot on my running. Running has always been my strongest discipline and Luc wanted to “perfect” it before we moved on to another.

Ridley Bikes provided us with their Dean FAST. And FAST it is! So, 2017 will be the year of the bike. That means four to five times per week on my Dean FAST. Rides of 160 to 200km to make sure my bike position is perfect. That’s very important. You need to be aerodynamic but you need to be sure that the bike position doesn’t break you. 180km racing on a TT bike is already hard, but if you get off the bike and your back feels like your muscles have been flash frozen, then the marathon will be hell on earth.

That’s why bike training is so important. You spend half the time of your Ironman on your bike. During the bike race, you always have bad moments, so I train on being focused and concentrated to conquer those moments without a Watts loss. Downhill and on the flats, I try to push the same Watts and I monitor it super hard when going uphill.

Another important issue for 2017: nutrition. At the Bakala Academy, we found a solution (fingers crossed) for my stomach problem during racing. I drink one bottle of carbo per hour. I take two bars between kms 70 and 120, and during the last hour I have two gels. That works for me!

Home Race

Putting all your eggs in that one Hawaiian basket is risky, so we peak for some other events as well. One of those events for me is the Ironman on Lanzarote. It’s one of the oldest—and toughest—Ironmans. The biking course of 180km is at over 2500 meters in altitude, and as if that wasn’t enough, the wind is always an important player over there. You can lose a lot of time on your bike, or even worse be so exhausted that your running section becomes a stumbling section. The Lanzarote race has 40 qualification slots available.

The Lanzarote Ironman is really special to me. I’ve been training over there during the winter recess since 2012, and I’ve actually lived there fulltime for over two years now. The 2017 race is the sixth time I’ve participated, and I ended up in the top 5 four times.

I felt super good. My preparation was like it should’ve been, I was focused, I was ready to fly…

The race started. We dived into the water and I survived the first battles. Have you ever seen the first swimming meters in a triathlon? It’s impressive.

It’s like thousands of dolphins jumping in and out of the water. Water splashing around everywhere. But that’s nothing. When you take a look under the water… oh boy! You get kicked. They pull you. They push you. And every tussle you have forces you to find your pace again.

When I got out of the water I was in third place, but really close to second. Kate Comber was only three minutes ahead of me.

I was ready to jump on my bike. I was convinced: “Today is going to be a big day.” After 40km, I was in 5th position. I really was focused. Eat, drink, pedal (a lot), and repeat. I knew I could keep up this tempo for another 140km.

That ugly sound

Everyone has a sound they hate. Mine? Pssssssshhhhhtttt—the sound of a flat.

It’s panic all the way. You need to stay calm, change the tire quickly, and make sure your muscles don’t get sore. Well… easier said than done. My nerves made it so hard to get the tire back on.

Breath in and out.

Now I was able to make those last pushes I needed to get the tire back on. I lost over 7 minutes…

I wanted to make up as much as possible, so I raised my tempo a bit. I was back in 6th place.

The marathon was insanely hard. Way too hot. I felt my power slipping away at km 16...

5th place it was, after swimming for 55 minutes and 41 seconds, cycling for 5 hours, 47 minutes and 29 seconds, and running for 3 hours 21 minutes. I was out there for 10 hours 11 minutes and 45 seconds.

Next Goals? The IM Maastricht (beginning of August) and the Worlds in Kona, of course.

The most important characteristic of a bike? Compactness and reacting fiercely when I need it to. I should have the feeling that I can control my bike at any place, any time. I think that is something of great importance. The Ridley X-Night SL has a perfect rigidity-to-weight ratio. The geometry is pretty well designed.

This makes it very fast on all surfaces in CX. The bike gives me comfort. This was obvious after my victory in Baal on January 1st. It was my first race on the Ridley and also an immediate blessing: a dream came true!

Not only the construction of the bike, but also the looks give me a winner’s feeling. I love the red and white details on the black background. It’s a combination of power and elegance. It was love at first sight.

A bike is the most important tool of a crosser. The X-Night SL drives very flexibly and that’s exactly where this bike makes the difference. It is excellent in fast turns. I tried a lot of challenging trails. It surprised me every single time, allowing me to make the difference by the finish.

Picking the fruits of gravel riding

Time stands still and yet time flies whenever I enter the adventure world of gravel. As the cars and the noise disappear, nature comes closer. The path less traveled is my motivation; a place full of adventure that draws me in and lets me explore.

Full of exhilaration, I have a tendency to push a bit harder when I enter a new section. From racing international cyclocross races with deep muddy or sandy sections, going hard before hitting the soft surface, this shift of pace is programmed into my body. On the gravel the reward feels much greater. It is almost like the bike itself rides faster and finds some hidden power that pushes the bike forward on its own. It really just wants to go.

The changes in vegetation become the narrative of a great film as I melt together with my bike and they let me enjoy the screenplay. My senses sharpen and I notice my surroundings more in detail. I look for the occasional potholes and puddles and make quick decisions on whether to weave through them - or to keep my line and bunny hop one or twice.

In the summer and fall months in Denmark, the berries start ripening. First the raspberries and the cherries, later the blueberries, the blackberries and the plums and at the end the occasional Aronia berries. Even though I might be going hard in the grinder zone, my eyes are always scanning for red, yellow, blue and dark dots on the bushes and in the trees.

Sometimes I decide to come back another day, sometimes I take the time to stop and refuel. I rely on nature’s provisions during this time of the year. The ride becomes complete when I can stop and collect the different rewards of my explorations and taste nature at its prime.

Getting back on the bike the adventure continues. The flow resumes and the taste of the sweet juices adds to the feeling of being out there where riding your bike really matters. The hunt for gravel becomes a purpose that enables more choices and delivers more diverse and deep experiences.

As a gravel section ends, the paved road becomes a wakeup call from the dream and I quickly find myself taking my time scanning the landscape in search of bright uneven surfaces, in search of new adventure portals, back into the unpaved land of dreams.

Ridley recognizes that MTB is one of the most progressive categories of the cycling world. Since the inception of the first mountain bike, so much has changed, so many bikes and brands have evolved.

At Ridley we’ve taken our cyclocross DNA and Gravel expertise to the MTB scene. While you’ll see Ridley employees rip some gnarly Belgian trails on a cyclocross rig and bask in the adrenaline rush of simply surviving with life and limb intact, we’ll readily admit that sometimes a little bit of squish would make the ride a lot bit better.

For those who love to ride fast and revel in the challenge of nimbly picking through technical, rocky sections the Ridley MTB line is the place to go. We make everything from razor-sharp full suspension XC bikes with astoundingly efficient kinematics that rocket forward with every pedal turn, through to clean, valuable hardtail simplicity that will put a smile on any #BeTOUGH aspirant’s face.

Breaking boundaries. Taking one step further to explore the world from a two-wheeled perspective. That is what cycling is all about.

In 1939, Tommy Godwin set the World Endurance record for a single year with 120,805 km. Many tried in the years after Tommy, but no-one succeeded.

It was not until 2015 that Kurt Searvogel broke the record with 1,627 km more and 5 days to spare. For 76 years people tried and came short. But imagine what an adventure it was to go that distance. In March 2017, the record changed again: 139,269 km by Amanda Coker, a 23-year-old American ultra-cyclist. She beat the record with 16,837 km. What a performance!

In cycling everything is possible. It’s rare at most. All that matters is getting out there and doing your best, exploring the cycling world and seeking new adventures.

Ridley proudly presents the new hybrid line of performance E-bikes.
