2 Safety instructionsNOTEThe safety rules in section 2.1 contain all general safetyrules for power tools which, in accordance with theapplicable standards, must be listed in the operatinginstructions. Accordingly, some of the rules listed maynot be relevant to this power tool.

2.1 General power tool safety warningsa) WARNING

Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Fail-ure to follow the warnings and instructions may resultin electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Save allwarnings and instructions for future reference.The term “power tool” in the warnings refers toyour mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

2.1.1 Work area safetya) Keepwork area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark

areas invite accidents.b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmo-

spheres, such as in the presence of flammableliquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparkswhich may ignite the dust or fumes.

c) Keep children and bystanders away while operat-ing a power tool. Distractions can cause you to losecontrol.

2.1.2 Electrical safetya) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never

modify the plug in any way. Do not use any ad-apter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reducerisk of electric shock.

b) Avoid body contact with earthed or groundedsurfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges andrefrigerators. There is an increased risk of electricshock if your body is earthed or grounded.

c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet condi-tions. Water entering a power tool will increase therisk of electric shock.

d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord forcarrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool.Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges ormoving parts.Damaged or entangled cords increasethe risk of electric shock.

e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use anextension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use ofa cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk ofelectric shock.

f) If operating a power tool in a damp location isunavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD)protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the riskof electric shock.

2.1.3 Personal safetya) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use

common sense when operating a power tool. Donot use a power tool while you are tired or underthe influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. Amoment of inattention while operating power toolsmay result in serious personal injury.

b) Use personal protective equipment. Always weareye protection. Protective equipment such as dustmask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearingprotection used for appropriate conditionswill reducepersonal injuries.

c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switchis in the off‐position before connecting to powersource and/or battery pack, picking up or carryingthe tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on theswitch or energising power tools that have the switchon invites accidents.

d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turn-ing the power tool on. A wrench or a key left at-tached to a rotating part of the power tool may resultin personal injury.

e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and bal-ance at all times. This enables better control of thepower tool in unexpected situations.

f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing orjewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves

away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelleryor long hair can be caught in moving parts.

g) If devices are provided for the connection of dustextraction and collection facilities, ensure theseare connected and properly used. Use of dustcollection can reduce dust-related hazards.

2.1.4 Power tool use and carea) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct

power tool for your application. The correct powertool will do the job better and safer at the rate forwhich it was designed.

b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does notturn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot becontrolled with the switch is dangerous and must berepaired.

c) Disconnect the plug from the power sourceand/or the battery pack from the power toolbefore making any adjustments, changingaccessories, or storing power tools. Suchpreventive safety measures reduce the risk ofstarting the power tool accidentally.

d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of chil-dren and do not allow persons unfamiliar with thepower tool or these instructions to operate thepower tool. Power tools are dangerous in the handsof untrained users.

e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment orbinding of moving parts, breakage of parts andany other condition that may affect the powertool’s operation. If damaged, have the power toolrepaired before use.Many accidents are caused bypoorly maintained power tools.

f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly main-tained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are lesslikely to bind and are easier to control.

g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc.in accordance with these instructions, taking intoaccount the working conditions and the work tobe performed. Use of the power tool for opera-tions different from those intended could result in ahazardous situation.

2.1.5 Battery tool use and carea) Recharge only with the charger specified by the

manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for onetype of battery pack may create a risk of fire whenused with another battery pack.

b) Use power tools only with specifically designatedbattery packs. Use of any other battery packs maycreate a risk of injury and fire.

c) When battery pack is not in use, keep it awayfrom other metal objects, like paper clips, coins,keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects,that can make a connection from one terminal toanother. Shorting the battery terminals together maycause burns or a fire.

d) Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejectedfrom the battery; avoid contact. If contact acci-dentally occurs, flushwithwater. If liquid contactseyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejec-ted from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

2.1.6 Servicea) Have your power tool servicedby aqualified repair

person using only identical replacement parts.This will ensure that the safety of the power tool ismaintained.

2.2 Safety warnings common for grinding, sanding,wire brushing, polishing or abrasive cutting-offoperations

a) This power tool is intended to function as a grinderor cut-off tool. Read all safety warnings, instruc-tions, illustrations and specifications providedwith this power tool. Failure to follow all instruc-tions listed below may result in electric shock, fireand/or serious injury.

b) Operations such as sanding, wire brushing orpolishing are not recommended to be performedwith this power toolOperations for which the powertool was not designedmay create a hazard and causepersonal injury.

c) Do not use accessories which are not specificallydesigned and recommended by the tool manufac-turer. Just because the accessory can be attachedto your power tool, it does not assure safe operation.

d) The rated speed of the accessory must be atleast equal to the maximum speed marked on thepower tool. Accessories running faster than theirrated speed can break and fly apart.

e) The outside diameter and the thickness of youraccessory must be within the capacity rating ofyour power tool. Incorrectly sized accessories can-not be adequately guarded or controlled.

f) Threaded mounting of accessories must matchthe grinder spindle thread. For accessoriesmoun-ted by flanges, the arbour hole of the accessorymust fit the locating diameter of the flange. Ac-cessories that do not match the mounting hardwareof the power tool will run out of balance, vibrateexcessively and may cause loss of control.

g) Do not use a damaged accessory. Before eachuse inspect the accessory such as abrasivewheels for chips and cracks, backing pad forcracks, tear or excess wear, wire brush for looseor cracked wires. If power tool or accessoryis dropped, inspect for damage or install anundamaged accessory. After inspecting andinstalling an accessory, position yourself andbystanders away from the plane of the rotatingaccessory and run the power tool at maximumno-load speed for one minute. Damagedaccessories will normally break apart during this testtime.

h) Wear personal protective equipment. Dependingon application, use face shield, safety goggles orsafety glasses. As appropriate, wear dust mask,hearing protectors, gloves and workshop aproncapable of stopping small abrasive or workpiecefragments. The eye protection must be capable ofstopping flying debris generated by various opera-tions. The dust mask or respirator must be capable offiltrating particles generated by your operation. Pro-

longed exposure to high intensity noise may causehearing loss.

i) Keep bystanders a safe distance away fromwork area. Anyone entering the work area mustwear personal protective equipment. Fragmentsof workpiece or of a broken accessory may flyaway and cause injury beyond immediate area ofoperation.

j) Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfacesonly, when performing an operation where thecutting tool may contact hidden wiring. Contactwith a "live" wire will also make exposed metal partsof the power tool "live" and could give the operatoran electric shock.

k) Position the cord clear of the spinning accessory.If you lose control, the cord may be cut or snaggedand your hand or arm may be pulled into the spinningaccessory.

l) Never lay the power tool down until the access-ory has come to a complete stop. The spinningaccessory may grab the surface and pull the powertool out of your control.

m) Do not run the power tool while carrying it at yourside. Accidental contact with the spinning accessorycould snag your clothing, pulling the accessory intoyour body.

n) Regularly clean the power tool’s air vents. Themotor’s fan will draw the dust inside the housingand excessive accumulation of powdered metal maycause electrical hazards.

o) Do not operate the power tool near flammablematerials. Sparks could ignite these materials.

p) Do not use accessories that require liquidcoolants. Using water or other liquid coolants mayresult in electrocution or shock.

2.3 Kickback and related warningsKickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snaggedrotating wheel, backing pad, brush or any other access-ory. Pinching or snagging causes rapid stalling of therotating accessory which in turn causes the uncontrolledpower tool to be forced in the direction opposite of theaccessory’s rotation at the point of the binding.For example, if an abrasive wheel is snagged or pinchedby the workpiece, the edge of the wheel that is enteringinto the pinch point can dig into the surface of thematerialcausing the wheel to climb out or kick out. The wheel mayeither jump toward or away from the operator, dependingon direction of the wheel’s movement at the point ofpinching. Abrasive wheels may also break under theseconditions.Kickback is the result of power tool misuse and/or in-correct operating procedures or conditions and can beavoided by taking proper precautions as given below.

a) Maintain a firm grip on the power tool and po-sition your body and arm to allow you to resistkickback forces. Always use auxiliary handle, ifprovided, for maximum control over kickback ortorque reaction during start-up. The operator cancontrol torque reactions or kickback forces, if properprecautions are taken.

b) Never place your hand near the rotating access-ory. Accessory may kickback over your hand.

c) Do not position your body in the areawhere powertool will move if kickback occurs. Kickback willpropel the tool in direction opposite to the wheel’smovement at the point of snagging.

d) Use special care when working corners, sharpedges etc. Avoid bouncing and snagging the ac-cessory. Corners, sharp edges or bouncing have atendency to snag the rotating accessory and causeloss of control or kickback.

e) Do not attach a saw chain woodcarving blade ortoothed saw blade. Such blades create frequentkickback and loss of control.

2.4 Safety warnings specific for grinding andabrasive cutting-off operations

a) Use only wheel types that are recommended foryour power tool and the specific guard designedfor the selected wheel.Wheels for which the powertool was not designed cannot be adequately guardedand are unsafe.

b) The grinding surface of centre depressed wheelsmust bemounted below the plane of the guard lip.An improperly mounted wheel that projects throughthe plane of the guard lip cannot be adequatelyprotected.

c) The guardmust be securely attached to the powertool and positioned for maximum safety, so theleast amount of wheel is exposed towards the op-erator. The guard helps to protect operator frombroken wheel fragments, accidental contact withwheel and sparks that could ignite clothing.

d) Wheels must be used only for recommended ap-plications. For example: do not grind with the sideof cut-off wheel. Abrasive cut-off wheels are inten-ded for peripheral grinding, side forces applied tothese wheels may cause them to shatter.

e) Always use undamaged wheel flanges that are ofcorrect size and shape for your selected wheel.Proper wheel flanges support the wheel thus redu-cing the possibility of wheel breakage. Flanges forcut-off wheels may be different from grinding wheelflanges.

f) Do not use worn down wheels from larger powertools. Wheel intended for larger power tool is notsuitable for the higher speed of a smaller tool andmay burst.

2.5 Additional safety warnings specific for abrasivecutting-off operations

a) Do not "jam" the cut-off wheel or apply excessivepressure. Do not attempt to make an excessivedepth of cut. Overstressing the wheel increases theloading and susceptibility to twisting or binding ofthe wheel in the cut and the possibility of kickback orwheel breakage.

b) Do not position your body in line with and behindthe rotating wheel. When the wheel, at the pointof operation, is moving away from your body, the

possible kickback may propel the spinning wheeland the power tool directly at you.

c) When wheel is binding or when interrupting a cutfor any reason, switch off the power tool and holdthe power tool motionless until the wheel comesto a complete stop. Never attempt to remove thecut-off wheel from the cut while the wheel is inmotion otherwise kickback may occur.Investigateand take corrective action to eliminate the cause ofwheel binding.

d) Do not restart the cutting operation in the work-piece. Let the wheel reach full speed and carefullyre-enter the cut. The wheel may bind, walk up orkickback if the power tool is restarted in the work-piece.

e) Support panels or any oversized workpiece tominimize the risk of wheel pinching and kickback.Largeworkpieces tend to sag under their ownweight.Supports must be placed under the workpiece nearthe line of cut and near the edge of the workpiece onboth sides of the wheel.

f) Use extra caution when making a "pocket cut"into existing walls or other blind areas. The pro-truding wheel may cut gas or water pipes, electricalwiring or objects that can cause kickback.

2.6 Additional safety instructions2.6.1 Personal safetya) Modification of the machine or tampering with its

parts is not permissible.b) Wear ear protectors. Exposure to noise can cause

hearing loss.c) Always hold the power tool securely with both

hands on the grips provided. Keep the grips dry,clean and free from oil and grease.

d) Breathing protection must be worn if the powertool is used without a dust removal system forwork that creates dust.

e) Improve the blood circulation in your fingers byrelaxing your hands and exercising your fingersduring breaks between working.

f) Avoid touching rotating parts. Switch the powertool on only after bringing it into position at theworkpiece. Touching rotating parts, especially rotat-ing insert tools, may lead to injury.

g) The appliance is not intended for use by debilit-ated persons who have received no special train-ing. Keep the appliance out of reach of children.

h) Dust from materials, such as paint containing lead,some wood species, concrete / masonry / stone con-taining silica, and minerals as well as metal, may beharmful. Contact with or inhalation of the dust maycause allergic reactions and/or respiratory or otherdiseases to the operator or bystanders. Certain kindsof dust are classified as carcinogenic such as oak andbeech dust, especially in conjunction with additivesfor wood conditioning (chromate, wood preservative).Material containing asbestos must only be treated byspecialists. Where the use of a dust-extractiondevice is possible it shall be used. To achieve ahigh level of dust collection, use a suitable dust

extractor. When indicated wear a respirator ap-propriate for the type of dust generated. Ensurethat the workplace is well ventilated. Follow na-tional requirements for the materials you want towork with.

i) The user and any other persons in the vicinitymust wear suitable eye protection, a hard hat,ear protection, protective gloves and breathingprotection while the tool is in use.

j) If the electric tool detects that it is being operatedbeyond its limits or if the battery is fully discharged,it may happen that the disc is no longer braked bythe motor.

2.6.2 Power tool use and carea) Grinding discs must be stored and handled care-

fully in accordance with the manufacturer’s in-structions.

b) Never use the power tool without the guard.c) Secure the workpiece. Use clamps or a vice to

secure the workpiece. The workpiece is thus heldmore securely than by hand and both hands remainfree to operate the power tool.

d) Do not use cutting discs for grinding.e) Tighten the disc and flange securely. If the nut

securing the disc and flange is not tightened firmly,the disc may work loose from the spindle due tothe braking effect of the power tool’s motor afterswitching off.

2.6.3 Electrical safetya) Before beginning work, check the working area

(e.g. using a metal detector) to ensure that noconcealed electric cables or gas and water pipesare present. External metal parts of the power toolmay become live, for example, when an electric cableis damaged accidentally. This presents a serious riskof electric shock.

b) Dirty or dusty power tools that have beenused fre-quently for work on conductive materials shouldbe checked at regular intervals at a Hilti ServiceCenter. Under unfavorable circumstances, damp-ness or dust adhering to the surface of the tool,especially dust from conductive materials, may leadto damage to the tool.

2.6.4 Careful handling and use of batteriesa) Observe the special guidelines applicable to the

transport, storage and use of Li-ion batteries.b) Do not expose batteries to high temperatures and

keep them away from fire. This presents a risk ofexplosion.

c) Do not disassemble, squash or incinerate batter-ies and do not subject them to temperatures over80°C. This presents a risk of fire, explosion or injurythrough contact with caustic substances.

d) Do not charge or continue to use damaged bat-teries (e.g. batteries with cracks, broken parts,bent or pushed-in and/or pulled-out contacts).

e) If the battery is too hot to touch it may be defective.Place the tool in a location where it can be kept

under observation, well away from flammablema-terials, and allow it to cool down. Contact HiltiService after the battery has cooled down.

2.6.5 Work area safetya) If the work involves breaking right through, take

the appropriate safety measures at the opposite

side. Parts breaking away could fall out and / or falldown and injure other persons.

b) Slits cut in loadbearing walls of buildings or otherstructures may influence the statics of the structure,especially when steel reinforcing bars or load-bearingcomponents are cut through. Consult the structuralengineer, architect, or person in charge of thebuilding project before beginning the work.

3 Description3.1 Use of the product as directedThe power tool is designed for cutting and grinding metals and mineral materials.Do not use the battery as a power source for other unspecified appliances.Working with metals: Only with synthetic resin-bonded, fiber-reinforced grinding or cutting discs.Working with mineral materials: Cutting and slitting using the corresponding guard (DC-EX 125/5"-C), grinding usingthe corresponding guard (DG-EX 125/5").The power tool may be used only for dry cutting or grinding.It is recommended that a dust removal system consisting of matched components, i.e. dust removal hood and asuitable Hilti vacuum cleaner, are used for working on mineral materials such as concrete or stone. These serve toprotect the operator and increase the life of the power tool and disc used.Working on materials hazardous to the health (e.g. asbestos) is not permissible.Observe the national health and safety requirements.To avoid the risk of injury, use only genuine Hilti accessories and insert tools.The power tool is designed for professional use and may be operated, serviced and maintained only by trained,authorized personnel. This personnel must be informed of any special hazards that may be encountered. The powertool and its ancillary equipment may present hazards when used incorrectly by untrained personnel or when used notas directed.

3.3 Additional items required for operating the toolA suitable battery of the specified type (see table in the Technical Data section) and a suitable battery charger fromthe C 4⁄36 series.

3.4 Temperature-dependent motor protectionThe temperature-dependent motor protection system prevents the power tool overheating by monitoring current inputand motor temperature.In the event of motor overload due to application of excessive pressure to the disc, performance will drop noticeablyor the power tool may stop running (avoid stalling the power tool in this way).If the power tool stalls or slows significantly due to overloading, release the pressure applied to the tool and then allowit to run under no load for approx. 30 seconds.

3.8 Lithium‑ion battery charge statusWhen the lithium-ion battery is in use, the charge status can be indicated by gently pressing one of the battery releasebuttons (press until resistance is felt - do not release the battery). 6 Before use6.1 Inserting the battery 5

CAUTIONCheck that the power tool is switched off and theswitch interlock activated before fitting the battery.

CAUTIONBefore inserting the battery in the power tool, checkto ensure that the battery terminals and the contactsin the power tool are free from foreign objects.

1. CAUTION If the battery is not fitted correctlyit may drop out and fall while the work is inprogress.CAUTION A falling battery may present a risk ofinjury to yourself and others.Before beginning the work, check that the battery issecurely seated in the tool.

6.2 Removing the battery from the power tool 6

6.3 Transport and storage of batteriesCAUTIONFire hazard. Never transport batteries in loose, bulk form.There is a risk of short circuiting.

Pull the battery out of the locked position (working posi-tion) and move it into the first latching position (transportposition).Observe national and international transport regulationswhen shipping batteries (transportation by road, rail, seaor air).

6.4 Fitting the side handleScrew the side handle into one of the threaded bushingsprovided.

6.5 GuardsCAUTIONWear gloves when fitting or removing parts, whenmaking adjustments or when remedying malfunc-tions.

Read the instructions for fitting the corresponding guard.

6.5.1 Fitting guards 7

NOTEThe guards are equipped with keyed locating lugs thatensure only guards of a type suitable for use with the

power tool can be fitted. The locating lugs of the guardfit into the guard mount on the power tool.

1. Fit the guard onto the drive spindle collar so that thetwo triangular marks on the guard and on the powertool are in alignment.

2. Push the guard onto the drive spindle collar; pressthe guard release button.

3. Rotate the guard until it engages and the guardrelease button jumps back into its original position.

6.5.1.1 Adjusting the guardPress the guard release button and then rotate the guarduntil it engages in the desired position.

6.5.2 Removing the guard (hood)Press the guard release button and remove the guard.

6.5.3 Fitting and removing the front cover 8

NOTEIf you use the front cover, fit it by pushing it onto theguard.

1. Press the front cover onto the standard guard, withthe closed side positioned as shown in the illustra-tion, until it engages.

2. To remove the front cover, release the catch andthen pull the front cover away from the standardguard.

NOTETake care to ensure that the on / off switch is freelyaccessible and operable at all times.

6.6 Fitting and removing discsNOTEDiamond discs must be replaced when the cutting orgrinding performance drops significantly. This generallyis the case when the segments reach a height of lessthan 2 mm. Other discs must be replaced when thecutting performance drops significantly or other parts ofthe angle grinder (not the disc) come into contact withthe material you are working on. Abrasive discs generallyhave to be replaced when the durability date has beenreached.

6.6.1 Fitting discs 10 11

WARNINGTighten the disc and flange securely. If the nut securingthe disc and flange is not tightened firmly, the disc maywork loose from the spindle due to the braking effect ofthe power tool’s motor after switching off.

1. Remove the battery from the power tool.2. CAUTION The clamping flange is equipped with

an O-ring. If this O-ring is missing, the clampingflange must be replaced.Fit the clamping flange onto the drive spindle (keyedfit to prevent slipping/rotation).

3. Fit the disc.4. Screw on the clamping nut corresponding to the

type of disc fitted 11.5. CAUTION The spindle lockbutton may be

pressed only when the drive spindle ismotionless. There is otherwise a risk of causingirreparable damage to the gearing or that the discworks loose.Press the spindle lockbutton and hold it in thisposition.

6. Use the wrench to tighten the clamping nut securely,then release the spindle lockbutton and remove thewrench.

6.6.2 Removing discs1. Remove the battery from the power tool.2. Press the drive spindle lockbutton and hold it in this

position.3. Release the clamping nut by gripping it with the

wrench and turning the nut counterclockwise.4. Release the drive spindle lockbutton and remove

the disc.

6.7 Fitting and removing discs using Kwik lockNOTEThe Kwik lock nut may be used instead of the standardclamping nut. No tools are then required for changingdiscs.

CAUTIONWhen operating the power tool, take care to ensurethat theKwik lock nut does not come into contactwiththe working surface. Do not use a damaged Kwik locknut.

6.7.1 Fitting discs using the Kwik lock clampingnut 12

NOTEThe arrow on the upper surface of the nut must be withinthe index marks. If the arrow is not within the index markswhen the nut is tightened it will be impossible to releasethe nut by hand. In this case, use the pin wrench torelease the Kwik lock nut (do not use a pipe wrench!).

1. Remove the battery from the power tool.2. Clean the clamping flange and the quick-release

clamping nut.3. CAUTION The clamping flange is equipped with

an O-ring. If this O-ring is missing, the clampingflange must be replaced.Fit the clamping flange onto the drive spindle.

4. Fit the disc.5. Screw the Kwik lock clamping nut onto the spindle

until it contacts the disc (the side with the letteringshould be visible after the nut is screwed on).

6. CAUTION The spindle lockbutton may bepressed only when the drive spindle ismotionless. There is otherwise a risk of causingirreparable damage to the gearing or that the discworks loose.Press the spindle lockbutton and hold it in thisposition.

7. Use the wrench to tighten the clamping nut or,respectively, rotate the disc firmly by hand in aclockwise direction until the Kwik lock nut is tight,then release the spindle lockbutton and remove thewrench (where applicable).

6.7.2 Removing discs secured with Kwik lock1. Remove the battery from the power tool.2. Release the Kwik lock nut by turning the knurled ring

counterclockwise. (Use the pinwrench to release theKwik lock nut if very tight. Do not use a pipe wrench.)

7 OperationWARNINGAlways use the side handle with the power tool (usethe hoop handle as an option).

CAUTIONThe insert tool may get hot during use. Wear protectivegloves when changing insert tools.

7.1 Rough grindingCAUTIONNever use abrasive cutting discs for grinding.

Best results are obtained when the disc maintains anangle of 5° to 30° with the working surface when grinding.Move the power tool to and fro while applying moderatepressure. This will avoid overheating and discoloration ofthe workpiece and ensure an even surface finish.

7.2 CuttingWhen cutting, apply moderate feed pressure and do nottilt the power tool or, respectively, the cutting disc (holdat approx. 90° to the surface being cut). For best results,

start cutting at the smallest cross section when cuttingprofiles and square tube.

7.3 On / off switch with switch-on interlock 13

The on / off switch with safety lock (switch-on interlock)gives you full control of the switch function and avoidsunintentional restarting.

1. Push the safety lock (switch-on interlock) forward tounlock the on / off switch and then press the switchfully.

2. The safety lock (switch-on interlock) returns auto-matically to the locked position when the on / offswitch is released.

8 Care and maintenanceWARNINGRepairs to the electrical section of the power tool maybe carried out only by trained electrical specialists.

CAUTIONBefore beginning cleaning, remove the battery in or-der to prevent the electric tool starting unintentionally.

8.1 Care of the power toolDANGERUnder extreme conditions, when used for working onmetal, conductive dust may accumulate inside the tool.This may have an adverse effect on the tool’s protectiveinsulation. In this case, use of a stationary dust extrac-tion system and frequent cleaning of the ventilationslots are recommended.

Never operate the power tool when the air vents areblocked. Regularly clean the power tool’s air vents care-fully with a dry brush. Do not permit foreign objects toenter the interior of the tool. The motor’s fan will drawdust into the casing and an excessive accumulation ofconductive dust (e.g. metal, carbon fiber) may causeelectrical hazards. Clean the outside of the power tool atregular intervals with a slightly damp cloth. Do not usea spray, steam pressure cleaning equipment or runningwater for cleaning. This may negatively affect the elec-trical safety of the tool. Always keep the grip surfaces

of the tool free from oil and grease. Do not use cleaningagents which contain silicone.NOTEFrequent work on conductive materials (e.g. metal, car-bon fiber) may make shorter maintenance intervals ne-cessary. Take your individual work place risk assessmentinto account.

8.2 Care of the Li‑ion batteryNOTEBattery performance drops at low temperatures.

NOTEStore the battery in a cool and dry place.

In order to achieve maximum battery life, stop using thebattery as soon as a significant drop in battery perform-ance is noticed.NOTE- If use continues, further battery discharge will bestopped automatically before the battery cells sufferdamage.

- Charge the batteries using the specified and approvedHilti battery chargers for Li‑ion batteries.

8.3 Checking the power tool after care andmaintenance

After carrying out care and maintenance work on thepower tool, check that all protective and safety devicesare fitted and that they function faultlessly.

9 TroubleshootingFault Possible cause RemedyThe battery runs down morequickly than usual.

Very low ambient temperature. Allow the battery to warm up slowlyto room temperature.

10 DisposalCAUTIONImproper disposal of the equipment may have serious consequences: the burning of plastic components generatestoxic fumes which may present a health hazard. Batteries may explode if damaged or exposed to very hightemperatures, causing poisoning, burns, acid burns or environmental pollution. Careless disposal may permitunauthorized and improper use of the equipment. This may result in serious personal injury, injury to third parties andpollution of the environment.

CAUTIONDispose of defective batteries right away. Keep them out of reach of children. Do not disassemble or incinerate thebatteries.

CAUTIONBatteries that have reached the end of their life must be disposed of in accordance with national regulations or returnedto Hilti.

Most of the materials from which Hilti power tools or appliances are manufactured can be recycled. The materialsmust be correctly separated before they can be recycled. In many countries, Hilti has already made arrangements fortaking back your old power tools or appliances for recycling. Please ask your Hilti customer service department orHilti representative for further information.

For EC countries onlyDisposal of electric tools together with household waste is not permissible.In observance of the European Directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment and its imple-mentation in accordance with national law, electrical appliances that have reached the end of their lifemust be collected separately and returned to an environmentally compatible recycling facility.
