Der Umfang und die Leis- tungsfähigkeit sind allerdings seit dem Standard SQL:1999 (oder auch SQL-99 genannt) sehr stark gewachsen. Einen Überblick über die diversen SQL-Standards gibt das Doku- ment „SQL-Standards“ vom selben Autor. Das Dokument „Die SQL-Select-Anweisung“ erläutert die Grundlagen der SQL-Abfrage gemäß der SQL-Standards vor 1999, d. h. alles, was man so im täglichen Leben als SQL-Anwender benötigt. 1

    1 Das SELECT-KommandoDas SELECT-Kommando ist zunchst einmal ein sehr grundlegendes, denn ohne SELECTkann man bei SQL-Datenbanken berhaupt keine Daten lesen. Der Umfang und die Leis-tungsfhigkeit sind allerdings seit dem Standard SQL:1999 (oder auch SQL-99 genannt)sehr stark gewachsen. Einen berblick ber die diversen SQL-Standards gibt das Doku-ment SQL-Standards vom selben Autor. Das Dokument Die SQL-Select-Anweisungerlutert die Grundlagen der SQL-Abfrage gem der SQL-Standards vor 1999, d. h. alles,was man so im tglichen Leben als SQL-Anwender bentigt.

  • Mit SQL-99 gab es zwei wesentliche Neuerungen bezglich SELECT:

    1. Common Table Expressions (CTEs1)

    2. grundlegende OLAP2-Fhigkeiten

    Diese Neuerungen werden im vorliegenden Dokument erlutert. Sie knnen in einigen Fllensehr hilfreich sein, kommen aber in der tglichen Arbeit nicht so hufig vor. Wenn sie aberangebracht sind, vereinfachen Sie die Arbeit ungeheuer und knnen auch die Performanceder Abfragen um ein Vielfaches steigern. Zudem entlasten sie die Anwendungsprogrammevon Arbeit, fr die sie nicht gut geeignet sind.

    Grundstzlich sollten sich alle Anwendungsentwickler beim Abfragen von Daten ausrelationalen Datenbanksystemen immer fragen, ob eine Verarbeitung der Daten im An-wendungsprogramm sinnvoll ist oder ob es nicht viel besser wre, die Datenbank auf eineWeise zu fragen, dass gleich die fertigen Daten an das Anwendungsprogramm geliefertwerden. In fast allen Fllen ist letzteres gnstiger. Ein Extrembeispiel wre das Abfragenaller Daten einer Tabelle, nur um beim Abholen der Tabellenzeilen einen Zhler mitlaufenzu lassen. Richtig wre es, die Datenbank die Tabellenzeilen mittels COUNT(*) zhlen unddann diese eine Zahl liefern zu lassen. Leider finden Tests oft nur mit kleinen Datenmen-gen statt, so dass beide Lsungen als quasi gleichwertig erscheinen. Sobald die Datenmengegrer wird bei einer Liste mit Lndernamen und Hauptstdten beispielsweise ist dasnicht anzunehmen, bei den Einzelverbindungsnachweisen eines Mobilfunkproviders abersehr wohl liegen zwischen beiden Anstzen mehrere Grenordnungen an Systembelas-tung bzw. Laufzeit.

    hnliche Beispiele gibt es auch bei komplexeren Abfragen, die mit dem klassischen SQLvor 1999 nicht so einfach darzustellen waren. Daher gibt es aus dieser Zeit noch viele An-wendungen, die Informationen im prozeduralen Code berechnen. Das muss man jetzt nichtunbedingt mit einem groen Knall in allen vorhandenen und zufriedenstellend laufendenAnwendungen sofort ndern, aber bei Neuentwicklungen oder bei der Suche nach Per-formanceproblemen muss man an diese Anwendungen und die zugrunde liegenden SQL-Abfragen ran und sie richtig machen.

    Der Einsatz von Advanced SQL setzt allerdings voraus, dass das verwendete Daten-banksystem diese Abfragen untersttzt. Das muss man ggf. in der Dokumentation nach-schlagen und zur Sicherheit auch ausprobieren. Datenbanksysteme, die ohnehin den Namenkaum verdienen, sind auch in diesem Bereich eher schwach aufgestellt.

    Eine SQL-Datei zum Erzeugen der Datenbank mit Mitarbeitern, Vorgesetzten und Ab-teilungen, welche u. a. fr das Beispiel in Abschnitt 2.4.1 auf Seite 7 vewendet wird, ist alsAnhang vorhanden. Bitte auf das nebenstehende Symbol klicken, um sie zu laden. Alle an-gehngten Dateien sind UTF-8-codiert und haben Newline-Zeichen als Zeilentrenner. DieTabellen sind wie untenstehend definiert. Die Inhalte sind hier nicht dokumentiert, aber inder Datei im Anhang enthalten. Der Datentyp SERIAL ist PostgreSQL-spezifisch, muss

    2 Common Table Expressions

    2.1 ZweckDer Zweck von Common Table Expressions ist zunchst einmal die Vereinfachung von Ab-fragen, indem komplexe Abfragen in mehrere einfachere Teile zerlegt werden. Ein Beispielhierfr ist:

    Was soll diese Abfrage ermitteln? Es geht darum, alle Auftrge aus den Top-Regionenaufzulisten, d. h. den Regionen, die zu mehr als 10 % zum Gesamtumsatz beitragen. Hierzuwerden zunchst alle Auftrge pro Region aufsummiert mit der Abfrage der ersten CTE:

    Das Ergebnis steht durch die CTE unter dem Namen regionUmsatz zur Verfgung undwird in der zweiten CTE eingesetzt.
