Highly acclaimed for her recent performances with the English Chamber Orchestra in London, de la Vega has recorded her debut concerto disk with the same orchestra on PENTATONE which, while still in its release period, is attracting unbridled attention (Classic FM CD of the week, NDR CD of the week, Amazon Best Seller, Apple A-List et al.). She was a student of the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris where she studied for her Premier Prix under Catherine Cantin, as well as with Philippe Pierlot and Raymond Guiot and hence is a successor of the great French school of Flute playing. At the age of 23 she won the position of Principal Flute with the Orquestra Sinfonica do Norte in Portugal before founding the London International Players, a compelling London ensemble which brings together the finest musicians of its generation. On the wings of her dynamism they have already in their first season performed in Europe’s greatest halls to high regard, making headlines in the UK and abroad with their ‘explosive’ and ‘dazzling’ performances (World Of Classical Music, Wigmore Hall review). Born in Australia to Argentinian-British parents, Ana de la Vega grew up on a farm in Southern New South Wales, Australia, as the third of four sisters: ‘When I decided to be a flautist, I had never seen a flute. I didn’t know what an orchestra was and I had certainly never been into a concert hall. I was seven years old trapping flies in the garden with my sister when Jean Pierre Rampal’s recording of the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto KV299 (Erato) came through my parents’ speakers. The second movement of that concerto rendered me choice-less - a physical reaction - an infiltration of body and soul. Every decision from that moment on led me to the flute, to Paris… and to Mozart... A long way from the flies and the dust!’
