Die üblichen Öffnungszeiten in St. Moritz sind von 9.00 – 12.30 und 14.00 – 18.30 oder 19.00 Uhr. Am Samstag schliessen die meisten Shops bereits um 17.00 Uhr. Während der Saison bleiben viele Läden über Mittag durchgehend und abends länger geöffnet; manche Boutiquen auch sonntags.

For the most part, shops in St. Moritz are open from 9 am to 12.30 pm, and from 2 pm to 6.30 or 7 pm. On Saturday, most of the shops already close at 5 pm. During the high season, many of them are open over lunchtime, and stay open lon-ger in the evening; some boutiques are also open on Sunday.

With its four main summits, 350 km of ski slopes, 200 km of cross country ski runs, 150 km of winter hiking paths, 580 km of summer hiking paths and 400 km of bike trails, Engadin St. Moritz is known as one of the most diversified recreation areas of Switzerland. What a breathtaking mountain decor! It is not surprising, that winter sports were born here. To this day Engadin St. Moritz remains a dream destination for snow and ice athletes. It is also the place, where the bob and skeleton world championships 2013 and the alpine ski world championships in 2017 will take place. It is currently also being considered as a possible host for the Olympic Winter Games. Due to the valley’s height, reaching between 1,800 and 3,303 meters above sea level, the snow is guaranteed every year. Wohli and his loyal horses take daily trips from the Pontresina railway station to the Roseg Valley and back: on schedule with the horse-drawn «omnibus», as private horse-drawn sleigh ride, full moon ride, short distance rides in and around Pontresina or a relaxing round-trip to the lake Lej da Staz.Guided rides and riding holidays for all ages are also offered as well as pony rides for kids. «We only sell what we drink ourselves!» This credo probably describes best the philosophy of the business opened in 1998. Since its beginning, Emerita and Dani Matter specialize on fairly unknown wines from smaller vineyards. Excellent wines offered at an attractive price is key to their success. Origin, grape variety and typicality of the region must also be clearly recognizable. They have remained faithful to these principles to this day. In the beginning, a specialty of the house was primarily Italian provenances but these have now been complemented with bottles not only from the Grisons, but also from the best wine regions in Austria or Spain. Don't miss out on the delicious olive oil, balsamic vinegar, pasta, Italian bread spreads, sott'oli, dolcetti and selected grappa. The constant movement of water, sand and sun create the bizarre and unique shapes of the drift-wood. A fascinating and inspiring material, of which artist Jeff Leshi creates tables, aesthetic lamps, candleholders, light objects and mirrors. The artist has been living in the Engadine for almost a decade. He looks for his materials in the nature and finds the driftwood near the Inn river and the olive wood in Corfu, his native Greek home. His objects are unique and confer harmony, charisma and that certain something for any kind of space. Now his objects can be admired and purchased in the sophisticated shop on the main road in Zuoz.

Die stetige Bewegung von Wasser, Steinen, Sand und Sonne schafft bizarre und einzigartige Formen: Schwemmholz. Ein faszinierendes wie inspiriendes Material. Das Schwemm-holz findet der seit einem knappen Jahrzehnt im Engadin lebende Künstler entlang dem Inn und in seiner griechischen Heimat Korfu. Hier ist es Olivenholz. Sämtliche Objekte sind Unikate. Sie bringen Harmonie und Ausstrahlung in jeden Raum und sorgen für das gewisse Etwas. Seit kurzem können die Objekte im stilvoll gestalteten Laden an der Hauptstrasse in Zuoz besichtigt und gekauft werden.

Später zählte die Quellkirche des Heiligen Mauritius zu den beliebtesten Wallfahrtsorten Europas. 1519 versprach Papst Leo X sogar jedem die völlige Absolution, der zur Quellkirche des heiligen Mauritius pilgerte. Übrigens: 2014 eröffnet das neue monumentale Hallenbad St. Moritz mit verschiedenen Becken, Pools und Wellnessangeboten.

St. Moritz hat das unverwechselbare Flair einer kosmopolitischen Jetset-Metropole inmitten unverfälschter Natur. Hier wünscht man sich beinahe einen Tag mit stürmischem Schneetreiben. Denn die Galerien und Museen sind zu gut sortiert, um sie zu ignorieren. Das ist die Schattenseite überdurchschnittlich vieler Sonnentage: Möglicherweise muss ein Traumtag «geopfert» werden, um die neus-ten Ausstellungen zu begutachten. Aber es lohnt sich: Berühmte Künstler wie Giovanni Segantini haben sich hier inspirieren lassen, weniger renommierte sich selber übertroffen. Ein Gang durch die Galerien und Museen inspiriert darum oft auch zu einem etwas anderen Blick auf das Vertraute. Übrigens: Das im Sommer statt-findende St. Moritz Art Masters hat sich zum Treffpunkt für die internationale Kunstszene etabliert. Besuchen Sie es!

Even though St. Moritz is surrounded by pure nature, it has the unmistakable flair of a cosmopolitan jet set metropolis. Sometimes one almost wishes for stormy and snowy days to visit the galleries and museums, that are too good to be ignored. The downside of many sunny days is that one might have to «sacrifice» one of them in order to not miss out on the latest exhibits. Nevertheless it’s worth it: famous artists like Giovanni Segantini have been inspired by the Engadine and less known artists also have excelled here. A walk through the galleries and museums might also inspire one to see familiar things with new eyes. Besides, the «Art Masters» that takes place in summer in St. Moritz has established itself as a meeting event for the international art scene. Don’t’ miss out on it!

Bereits sechs Jahre sind es her, seit Peter Vann mit «Essenz des Augenblicks» (2006/07) einen neuen Blick auf unsere Berge eröffnete und dafür viel Anerkennung aus internationalen Fachkreisen und vom Publikum erntete. Die Bilder rund um das Gebiet von Morteratsch, Palü, Bernina und Albula leben von der Reduktion auf die Struktur der montanen Kargheit, sind dicht und voller formaler Kraft. Auch dieses Jahr sind neue und immer wieder faszinierende Werke hinzugekommen. Unter dem Titel «Im Licht der Berge» werden diese in der Galerie in S-chanf präsentiert. Ergänzt wird die Ausstellung durch eine Serie gross- flächiger Monotypien von Kunstpreisträger Herbert Brandl. Diese sind 2012 aus einer Kooperation der beiden Künstler entstanden und von den Landschaftsfotografien von Peter Vann inspiriert.Im Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains ist ein repräsentativer Rückblick auf die früheren Fotografien von 2006 bis 2011 zu sehen.

It was just a few years ago, since Peter Vann shed a new light on our mountains with «Essence of the Moment» (2006/2007) and achieved great recognition for it among the public and international specialists. His pictures, which revolve around the Morteratsch, the Palü, the Bernina and the Albula areas, are reduced to the structure of the barrenness of the mountains and emanate a dense and yet formal power. As usual, this year new fascinating artworks have enlarged Vann’s collection. The artist is presenting one of his current projects, «In the Mountain Light», in his gallery in S-chanf. The exhibit is completed by a series of large scale monotypes made by art prize awarded Herbert Brandl. The monotypes were developed during a collaboration between the two artists in 2012 and were inspired by the landscape photographs of Peter Vann. One can admire a retrospective of the artist’s photographs from 2006 to 2011 in the Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains.

Wie sehen junge Frauen und Männer das Engadin? Im Rahmen der Art Masters geben 15 Schüler des Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz eine fotografische Antwort. Mit der Unterstützung des Engadiner Fotografen Peter Vann und Leica Cameras visualisierten die Teilnehmer der Foto-Master-Class 2012 ihr ganz persönliches Verhältnis zu der Region. Die jungen Fotografinnen und Fotografen sind international zusammengesetzt und blicken somit schon von der Herkunft her aus ganz verschiedenen Perspek-tiven auf das Engadin. Spannend wird das Experi-ment aber auch durch die persönliche Situation junger Menschen, die - oft weit weg von zuhause - am Lyceum Alpinum erwachsen werden. Die Folie, auf der ihre Arbeiten entstanden, besteht aus Abnabelung und Heimweh, aus Abschied und Auf-bruch, aus dörflicher Abgeschiedenheit und «global village». Die Suche nach dem eigenen Weg eines jungen Menschen ist oft mit einer Phase besonderer Kreativität verbunden. Die im Rahmen des Projets «Blow up in Engadin» entstandenen Arbeiten sind dafür ein eindrucksvoller Beleg.

Ein Auszug der Arbeiten aus dem Projekt sind im neuen Kalender von Peter Vann umgesetzt worden. Der schicke Blickfang im hochwertigen Schuber kann über die Buchhandlung Wega in St. Moritz und in der Galerie Peter Vann bezogen werden.

How do young men and women see the Engadine? During the «Art Masters» 15 students from the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz expressed their answers through photgraphies. Under the supervision of Engadine photographer Peter Vann and equipped with Leica cameras, the participants of the «Photo Master Class 2012» concrete their personal relati-onship to the region in pictures. The young photo-graphers have an international background, which allows them to look at Engadine with different perspectives. The project gets even more exciting when one considers the personal situation of those young people, who are far away from home and grow up at the Lyceum Alpinum. Topics like growing up, being home sick, saying goodbye, departing, the remoteness of the village and the «global village» reflect in their work. A young person’s search for his or her own way in life is often related to a creative phase. The special art-work of the project «Blow up in the Engadine» is an impressive evidence.

Some of the artworks of the project can be admi-red in Peter Vann’s new calendar. The eye catcher and its top quality slipcase can be purchased in the Wega bookshop in St. Moritz and in Peter Vann’s gallery.

In seinem Zernezer Atelier läutet der Engadiner Künstler eine neue Schaffensperiode ein. Marco Zuffellato arbeitet mit organischen Elementen wie Schwemmholz, Schädeln, Federn oder Rosshaar, aber auch mit rohem Metall und scheinbar sinn-losen Fundgegenständen. Daraus zaubert er mit intuitiver Schöpfungskraft Skulpturen und Objekte von archaischer Schönheit. Gestalten zwischen Licht und Schatten, Leben und Tod. Neben funktio-nellen und massiven Objekten lässt er seit einiger Zeit auch wieder seine «Totemmännli» aufleben – dekorative kleinere Figuren aus Holz. Seine Werke versprühen eine ganz eigene Ästhetik und ent-wickeln dabei beinahe mystische Energie – ähnlich den Kultobjekten primitiver Stämme. Das Atelier mit Showroom liegt mitten in Zernez, direkt an der Abzweigung zum Ofenpass.

The Engadine artist just recently moved to his new studio in Zernez and at the same time heralds a new period of creativity. Marco Zuffellato combines organic elements such as driftwood, skulls, fea-thers and horsehair with raw metal and seemingly mundane lost objects. The sculptures and objects created with intuitive creativity are mystic and of an appealing archaic beauty. Statures in between light and darkness, life and death. Besides func- tional and massive sculptures, for some time now he also revives his creations «Totemmännli» - small decorative figures made of wood. His art aggregates a unique aesthetic quality with an almost mystic energy - usually only seen in cult objects of indi-genous tribes. The studio and showroom is located in Zernez, right at the junction to the Ofen Pass.

Tagsüber bieten herrliche Sonnenterrassen auf dem Berg die Ergänzung zu Action und Unterhaltung im Engadiner Winter. King’S CluB Im legendären «King’s Club» lassen Stars und Sternchen, Promis und solche, die es gerne wären, die Nacht zum Tag werden. Hier ist alles möglich. An keinem anderen Ort wird so ausgelassen gefeiert, und ist das Publikum so durchmischt. Aufgelegt wird querbeet durch die Musikstile. Hauptsache es gefällt. Es geht sowieso mehr um das Sehen und Gesehen werden und den Small-talk. Sperrstunde ist ein Fremdwort, weshalb es zu später Stunde alle Unverbesserlichen in den «King's Club» zieht.
