Baggage
Information
Make sure to check how much baggage you are allowed to take
with you on the flight. This varies a lot depending on the airline.
Customs
The importation and exportation of certain goods is restricted and possible only under certain conditions (e.g. previous permission); for some products even absolute import and export prohibitions apply.
Due to its key position at the external border of the European Community, the customs administration has been charged with the control of these importation and exportation restrictions. Please, do not forget that there are prohibitions and restrictions to be considered even for taking goods within the European Union.
Especially the importation and exportation of your climber could be quite difficult and maybe time-consuming! Please catch up on the customs regulations as early as you can!
Due to own experiences, we would suggest you to procure an “ATA-Carnet” for your climber. You usually get this from the Chamber of Trade at your country.
For further information please contact us!

Munich
Munich is the capital city of Bavaria, Germany. Quite the whole
world has already heard about Munich because of its famous
„Oktoberfest“, the world's largest folk festival. Munich is located on
the river Isar north of the Bavarian Alps. Munich is the third largest
city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg. There are about 1.4
million people living within city limits. As the capital of the Free
State of Bavaria, Munich is an important political centre in Germany
and the Bavarian State Parliament as well as the State Chancellery,
the Federal Finance Court of Germany and the European Patent
Office are located here. Munich is divided into 25 boroughs.
History
The year 1158 is assumed to be the foundation date. In 1175
Munich was officially granted city status. When Bavaria was
reunited in 1506, Munich became its capital. Under the regency of
the Bavarian electors Munich was an important centre of baroque
life but also had to suffer under Habsburg occupations in 1704 und
1742. In 1806, the city became the capital of the new Kingdom of
Bavaria. After World War I, the city was at the centre of much
political unrest. It would once again become a Nazi stronghold
when the National Socialists took power in Germany in 1933. The
city is known as the site of the culmination of the policy of
appeasement employed by Britain and France leading up to World
War II. It was heavily damaged by allied bombing during this war.
After American occupation in 1945, Munich was completely rebuilt.
Munich was also the site of the 1972 Summer Olympics. Nowadays
the city is rated among the top 10 cities with the highest quality of
life worldwide. Munich not only offers a lot of cultural attractions
but since World War II has also become a main center of
technological innovation and science.

“Olympiapark” :
The Olympiapark in Munich, Germany, is an Olympic Park which
was constructed for the 1972 Summer Olympics.
Quality of Life
With a population of just over 1.3 million (2009), Munich is the third-largest city in Germany but will seem tiny to visitors from the world's megacities. It is often referred to as "the village with a million inhabitants", due to its cosy atmosphere brought about by cobblestone alleys in the old town and the small owner-operated shops that still abound in town and many neighborhoods. Thanks to strict building codes, there are no high-rise buildings in the city center.
Munich has a vibrant café and restaurant scene with outdoor seating on sidewalks or private patios. Munich residents love to eat and drink and therefore flock to the countless beer gardens at every opportunity. A complete smoking ban in cafés and restaurants has been in place for some years. Thanks to its many parks, among them the English Gardens or the Nymphenburg Palace grounds, the city is very green. Parks are popular for walking, running, bicycling, playing, or simply hanging out with friends and family.

“Hanging out”
“Olympiaturm” :
The Olympic tower was built for the Olympic games in 1973,
along with the rest of the Olympic Park. At 951 feet high, it is
Germany's highest television tower. It has a revolving restaurant
at the top, and offers spectacular views.

Englischer Garten :
Munich is a green city with numerous parks. The English Garden,
close to the city centre and covering an area of 3.7 km² (larger
than Central Park in New York), is one of the largest urban public
parks. In the middle of the park at the Chinese tower one of the
most famous beer gardens of Munich is located.
Zoo „Tierpark Hellabrunn“ :
The first „geo+zoo“ in the world with approximately 460 species.
Bavaria Film Studios :
They are one of Europe's biggest and most famous film
production studios.
“Hofbräuhaus” :
The world's most famous beer hall is very popular among
tourists and locals. Enjoy traditional music, tasty Bavarian dishes
and, of course: a „Maß“ of beer.
“Thermenwelt Erding” – is located in Erding near Munich (with
S1 at station “Erding”)
Be amazed by the variety at Europe's biggest thermal water
world – an exotic pool paradise with a soothing vitality oasis and
bathing beneath palm trees in the neighborhood of Munich. The
world's biggest sauna paradise offers a wonderful range of
thermal and wellness attractions while GALAXY ERDING takes
water slides to a new, gigantic dimension.
“Oktoberfest” – is located on the Theresienwiese in the southern
central part of munich.
Celebrated for over 100 years the Oktoberfest is the world’s
largest feast with approx. 6 million visitors each year. Starting in
late september guests form all over the world come to Munich
to taste German beer and find out how Germans like to party.
Munich is also offering a combination ticket with the
public transportation that includes the journey there, the
return and four hours of stay in the baths.

Useful phrases
Munich is a very international city with a large non-German population. It is also one of the top destinations in Germany for foreign tourists. As a consequence, you will be perfectly able to make your way around by communicating in English. Germans study English in high school (increasingly also in elementary school and sometimes even kindergarten), so you will always find someone who can answer your questions.

In case of emergency
Emergency numbers
110 Police 112 Fire brigade and ambulance
Please ask the staff of your accommodation regarding what to do in case of an emergency! You better ask for this information while checking in or shortly after your
arrival! Useful questions could be:
Whom should I contact in the case someone gets ill? Whom should I contact in case of an accident or in
case someone got hurt? Where do I find the first-aid kid?
(in German:”Erste-Hilfe-Kasten”) In Europe it is obligatory for every driver to have a first aid kit!
Which documents does the injured person need in case that emergency treatment is needed?
Which documents do I need in the case of medical treatment?

Some useful advice
Student discounts
You have to keep your eyes open for student discounts;
Students receive various discounts upon presenting their
student ID, e.g. for movie theatre tickets, public swimming pools,
etc.
Many cultural facilities, such as theatres and opera houses, are
heavily subsidized and therefore offer cheap tickets. For instance,
standing room tickets at the Munich Opera House start from about
6 EUR and all public museums in Bavaria charge a reduced
admission fee of just 1 EUR per person every Sunday.
Opening hours:
Shops may not stay open later than 8 pm in Bavaria and
they are closed all day on Sundays and public holidays.
Public transport at night
is extremely limited, so that sometimes you have to wait
even an hour for the Night-Bus, the Night-Tram or
suburban train. Often you have to rely on a taxi. During the night
the subway is not in operation!
Further Information about Nightlines: http://www.mvv-muenchen.de/fileadmin/media/Dateien/plaene/pdf/Nachtnetz_2016.pdf
Alcoholic beverages:
Having become 16 you are allowed to drink beer and wine.
Having become adults (at 18) people are allowed access to all sorts
of alcohol.
You have to carry your ID card. Most vendors are obliged to check
your age if they feel you may be too young.
