What is Zone Control?

Zone Control is the practice of separately

controlling the temperature in different zones

of a building

Zone Control allows you to share time with one

piece of HVAC equipment in different zones

A “Zone” can be one room, several rooms, or

even a floor

Page 3: Fahrenheit Zone Control

Comfort vs. Cost – How About Both! Studies have been done on the potential cost savings

of zoning a home and have shown up to a possible 30% cost savings when a home is zoned correctly and used with setback thermostats

Everyone should feel comfortable in every room in their home but the fact is, due to many variables, one temperature controlled system cannot keep every area in a home at appropriate temperatures

Such variables could be whether a room (zone) faces the sun at certain times of the day or whether or not a zone is an underground floor (basement) or upstairs (2nd floor in a 2-story home)

Zone Control System Components. 1. Control Panel – The “brains” of the system

2. Thermostats – Used to control the temperatures of each individual zone

Page 6: Fahrenheit Zone Control

Zone Control System Components3. Zone Dampers – A specific type of damper

that controls the flow of heating or cooling within the ductwork of a Zone Control System

Can be round or rectangular, side or bottom mount

4. Bypass Damper (optional component) – A damper that is strictly used in Zone Control Systems to relieve excess pressure that may form when zone dampers close

Can be round or rectangular, barometric (controlled by pressure within the system) or electric

Zone Control System Components 5. Accessories – Can include such parts

as transformers (all systems require a dedicated transformer), discharge air sensors (DAS), actuators and outdoor air temperature sensors (OTS)

CZRD™ Combination Zone Relief Damper. The Combination Zone Relief Damper is a patented product that eliminates the need to install a bypass duct and damper in a zone control system. This is accomplished with a built-in static pressure relief mechanism that will modulate open once the static pressure within the duct has reached an unacceptable level. (Factory set at 0.3”WC)

The CZRD is the answer to many installation problems such as:•

Space limitations installing a bypass

• State regulations restricting a bypass

• Added cost of labor and materials to install a bypass

• All CZRD dampers work with any of the control panels

ThermostatsThermostats for every applicationThe Fahrenheit Series carries a wide range of Braeburn thermostats for every possible application. Thermostats will control the temperature in each zone of a building. Every zone needs one thermostat and programmable thermostats are always suggested when installing a Zone Control System because of their added control and energy savings.

Fresh Air Ventilation SystemFAVS – Fresh Air Ventilation SystemThe Fahrenheit series also offers a simple way to control the indoor air quality (IAQ) of a home. Our Fresh Air Ventilation System (FAVS) is incredibly easy to install and set in order to achieve adequate fresh air throughout a home. As more and more homes are built “tighter” it is becoming very important to ventilate homes during the months that windows and doors cannot be opened. Even more important is the trend of states passing legislation requiring homes to have systems that introduce fresh air into a home. FAVS is ASHRAE 62.2 standard compliant.

The FAVS kit comes with either a 6” or 8” round damper that is factory set to be powered open, spring return closed, a control panel, and a transformer.

These items can be sold separately.
