Problems which Occur by Defining the Necessity of the Operation and the Preoperative Discussion with the Patient Concerning the Corrective Rhinoplastic Surgery

Summary. Introducing the author remarks that differences of the ideal forms of the nose do not justify a corrective operation in any case because changing trends can change the ideal nose appearance.

Besides the doctors medical dicision the patient's psychical make up must be considered. In case of emotinal crisises a corrective surgery should be avoided. A serious problem is when the surgeon imposes his own ideal in addition to what the patient requested.

In addition to the juristical required discussion on the surgery problems the sur- geon should mention the possibility, that the patient might dislike the final ap- pearance of the nose.

It is a serious mistake of the doctor to promise the final appearance of the nose, because this increases the normal contract to guarantee the patient's approval of a final appearance. This increased contract could lead to juristical consequen- ces.
