World of Leading Golf, the institution that groups together the best courses in Europe, ha distinguished Golf Son Gual as “the best” of them all. This is the first time that this prize has been given, and from now on it will be awarded annu-ally with the top 30 courses on the con-tinent as candidates.One of the greatest merits of this prize is its selection system, based on mys-tery tests during which the quality of the course, infrastructures and servic-es etc. are assessed, always under the cloak of secrecy.In the assessment result Golf Son Gual attained the best scores with regard to quality, variety and course design, and for the quality of the food served in its restaurant, too. structure was also praised, as was the atmosphere one breathes in the club.The prize was awarded last March in the Forest of Arden Hotel & Country Club, in Birmingham, England, in a cer-emony hosted by BBC sports presenter Dan Walker.

From the 7th of July the fairways of Son Gual will begin undergoing radi-cal changes which will greatly enhance the summer/autumn playing conditions thanks to the decision by the owners to begin incorporating a warm season grass into the existing Rye-grass sward on the first nine holes this year.Gareth Anwell, Head Greenkeeper at Son Gual, says that with the introduction of Paspalum he will be able to maintain the impeccable standards people have

grown to expect for twelve months of the year, in particular through the intense Mallorcan summer time.The blend of ‘Pure Dynasty’ chosen has been imported directly from the United States and the actual seeded varieties in the mix have only recently been developed from the most advanced Paspalum’s on the market. It was first released for sale only last year but has already been used on sev-eral projects in the United States, Dubai and Indonesia, to name a few.The introduction of ‘Pure Dynasty’ will begin in the fairways and over the coming years it will naturally become the predomi-nant grass and spread into the semi-roughs. Further benefits of its introduction will be seen on the golf course’s environmental footprint thanks mainly to a vast reduction in fertilizer, chemical and water require-ments which will of course lead to less electric and fuel consumption due to less pump usage and spraying time. Even water quality will not be less of an issue once the Paspalum plants have matured!“Without doubt this is the best variety of grass for golf in our Mallorcan climate and our members and customers are absolutely going to love playing on it”, concludes Gareth Anwell.

Hintergrund ist die Entscheidung der Eigentümerfamilie, den Ray Grass-Rasen auf den ersten neun Bahnen durch Paspalum-Rasen, einen Rasentyp speziell für warmes Klima, zu ersetzen. Gareth Anwell, Head Gre-enkeeper auf Son Gual, zeigt sich überzeugt, dass mit dem Paspalum-Rasen der hohe Stan-dard der Bahnen, an den die Spieler gewöhnt

sind, das ganze Jahr über gewahrt wird, vor allem während des heiβen mallorquinischen Sommers. Die ausgewählte, direkt aus den USA importierte Mischung ‚Pure Dynasty‘ ent-hält Samensorten, die erst kürzlich entwickelt worden sind. Die im vergangenen Jahr auf den Markt gekommene und als wegweisend geltende Paspalum-Mischung ist u.a. bereits in den USA, Dubai und Indonesien erfolg-reich eingesetzt worden. Die ‚Pure Dynasty‘ -Mischung wird zunächst auf den Bahnen ausgebracht. Im Laufe der kommenden Jahre wird der Paspalum-Rasen auch in den semi roughs angepflanzt werden. Die Vorteile des Paspalum-Rasens werden auch in der Umweltbilanz von Son Gual zu Buche schlagen. Der Bedarf an Düngemitteln, chemischen Substanzen und Wasser wird beträchtlich sinken. Dadurch verringert sich der Strom- und Brennstoffverbrauch, nicht zuletzt deswegen, weil Pumpen und Bereg-nungsanlagen weniger oft oder für ein kür-zeres Zeitfenster eingesetzt werden müssen. Und: sobald der Paspalum-Rasen ausgereift ist, werden auch die Probleme im Bereich Wasserqualität reduziert! Gareth Anwell ist sich sicher: “Das ist zweifelsohne der beste Rasen für das Golfspiel und das Klima auf Mallorca. Unsere Mitglieder und Kunden werden begeistert darauf Golf spielen.“

Diego and Montse are the first people to attend to the players who are about to go out on the course after they obtain their green fee ticket at the front desk of Son Gual. Diego has been performing the duties of marshal at the course for over a year now. “My work consists of giving the start-ing signal to the players, guiding them to hole number 1 and explaining the course to them briefly, as well as answering any questions that may arise”, he explains. “The Son Gual course is different from all the others on Mallorca, in the starting-time interval too, which is 15 minutes between rounds here”. For him, the profile of the Son Gual client is “an extremely polite, courteous person”. In addition, Diego does a complete round of the whole course in his buggy every one and a half hours, to make sure everything is running smoothly.“What I like the most about my work is belonging to a company like this one, the contact with nature and naturally, dealing with all the customers and helping to keep them happy”.As for Montse, the caddy master, her main mission is to help the players with every-thing they need before going out on the course: a set of clubs, a buggy, food or drinks ordered during the round, etc. “I love serving our customers, and help-ing them with everything they need”. Like Diego, Montse is delighted with the nature found at the Son Gual course.

Diego ist seit mehr als einem Jahr als Marshall tätig. „Zu meiner Arbeit gehört es, Spielzei-ten zu vergeben, die Spieler zu Bahn 1 zu führen, ihnen einen kurzen Überblick über den Platz zu verschaffen und eventuell auf-tauchende Fragen zu beantworten“, erläu-tert er. „Son Gual unterscheidet sich von allen anderen Plätzen auf Mallorca, auch, was die Spielzeiten angeht, die hier 15 Minuten zwischen den Runden betragen.“ Die Spieler auf Son Gual sind, so Diego, „gebildete, sich sehr korrekt verhaltende Menschen.“ Alle anderthalb Stunden dreht Diego im Buggy eine komplette Runde auf dem Golfplatz und überprüft, ob alles in Ordnung ist. „Am besten gefällt mir, dass ich in einem prestigeträchtigen Unternehmen wie Son Gual arbeiten kann, immer in der Natur bin, mit so vielen Menschen zu tun habe und dafür sorgen kann, dass sich unsere Gäste hier wohlfühlen.“Caddy Master Montse kümmert sich um alles, was die Spieler benötigen, bevor sie zur Golfrunde starten: Schlägersets, Bug-gies, Essen und Getränke, die während des Spiels bestellt werden. „Meine Arbeit macht mir Spaβ, ich helfe unseren Gästen gern bei allen Dingen, die sie brauchen.“ Wie Kollege Diego zeigt sich auch Montse begeis-tert von der schönen Natur auf Son Gual.

Diego lleva más de un año en el campo desarrollando funcio-nes de Marshall. “Mi trabajo consiste en dar la salida a los jugadores, guiarlos hasta el hoyo 1 y hacerles una breve explicación del campo, y resolver las preguntas que puedan surgirles”, comenta. “Son Gual es un campo diferente a todos en Mallorca, y también en el intervalo de salidas, que aquí es de 15 minutos entre partida y partida”. Para él, el perfil del cliente de Son Gual es “una per-sona educada y muy correcta”. Luego, cada hora y media Diego da una vuelta completa por todo el campo en su buggy, para asegu-rarse de que todo va correctamente.“Lo que más me gusta de mi trabajo es pertenecer a una empresa como esta, el contacto con la Naturaleza y, por supues-to, tratar con tantos clientes y ayudar a que estén contentos”.En cuanto a Montse, Caddy Master, su principal misión es ayudar a los jugado-res en todo lo que necesiten antes de salir al campo: un juego de palos, un buggy, comida o bebida para pedir durante la partida, etc. “Me gusta atender a nues-tros clientes, ayudarlos en todo lo que necesiten”. TOMATENSALAT MIT BURRATATOMATO AND BURRATA SALADENSALADA DE TOMATE Y BURRATA

ZUTATEN (FÜR 4 PERSONEN):1 kg reife Tomaten, 1 Gemüsepaprika der Saison (60 g), 1 Gurke, 100 g Zwie-beln, 50 g Weiβbrot (am besten Stangen-Baguette), 1 Knoblauchzehe, 2 dcl Oli-venöl, 2 dcl Weiβweinessig, 1 TL Salz, 1 TL gemahlener Kümmel, Wasser.

Das Gemüse säubern, kleinschneiden und mit allen Zutaten in den Mixer geben. Gut durchmixen, bis das Gemüse zu einer Suppe zerkleinert ist (die Zeit hängt von der Leistung des Mixers ab). Je nach Geschmack Salz und Essig zufügen. Wenn das Gazpacho zu dick geworden ist, kaltes Wasser hinzugeben, bis das Gazpacho die gewünschte Konsistenz hat. In den Kühl-schrank stellen und sehr kalt servieren.

ZUTATEN (FÜR 4 PERSONEN):4 Stück Burrata, 4 Tomaten, 50 g Paste aus schwarzen Oliven, Olivenöl und Balsamico-Essig, grobes Salz, schwarzer Pfeffer, 200 g Ruccula-Salat. Pesto: Pinienkerne, Basilikum, Parme-san-Käse, Olivenöl, Salz, Knoblauch.

Alle Zutaten für das Pesto in den Mixer geben, das Öl nach und nach zufügen. Bei-seite stellen. Tomaten schälen, in dünne Scheiben schneiden und auf einen groβen Teller legen. Den Burrata in die Mitte des Tellers legen (Vorsicht, damit die Käse-stücke nicht zerbrechen!). Das Pesto, die Olivenpaste sowie Salz und schwarzen Pfeffer darauf geben. Den Ruccula-Salat mit Öl und Essig anmachen und um die Burrata-Scheiben drapieren.

INGREDIENTS (4 PEOPLE):1 kg very ripe tomatoes, 1 green pepper, in season (60 g), 1 cucumber, 100 g onion, 50 g white bread (preferably baguette), 1 garlic clove, 200 ml olive oil , 200 ml white wine vinegar, 1 teaspoonful of salt, 1 teaspoonful of ground cumin, a little water.

Clean and chop all of the vegetables and place in the blender with all the other ingredients. Blend until there are no pieces of vegetable left (the time will depend on how powerful the blender is). Add salt and vinegar to taste.If the gazpacho does not have the right consistency, add a little cold water to taste. Keep in the fridge and serve chilled.

INGREDIENTS (4 PEOPLE):4 pieces of burrata cheese, 4 pieces of tomato, 50 g black olive paste, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, salt flakes, black pepper, 200 g rocket lettuce. Pesto sauce: pine nuts, basil, Parmesan, olive oil, salt, garlic.

Make the pesto sauce by blending all the ingredients together and gradually adding the oil, and reserve. Peel the tomatoes and slice finely. Arrange on the dish, place the burrata in the centre, taking care not to break it. Season with the pesto sauce, a little olive paste, salt and the black pepper. Dress the rocket lettuce with oil and vinegar separately and then arrange around the burrata.

INGREDIENTES (4 PERSONAS):1 kg de tomates bien maduros, 1 pimiento verde de temporada (60 gr.), 1 pepino, 100 gr de cebolla, 50 gr. de pan blanco ( preferible barra ), 1 diente de ajo, 2 dcl aceite oliva, 2 dcl vinagre de vino blanco, 1 cucharadita de sal, 1 cucharadita de comino en polvo, un poquito de agua.

Limpiar y cortar todas las verduras y meterlas en un vaso de batidora, con todos los ingredientes. Batir hasta que no deje ningún trozo de verdura (el tiempo dependerá de la potencia de la batidora). Añadir sal y vinagre al gusto.Si el gazpacho no tiene la consistencia adecuada, habría que añadir un poco de agua fría hasta que esté al propio gusto. Guardar en la nevera y servir muy frío.

INGREDIENTES (4 PERSONAS):4 piezas de burrata, 4 piezas de tomate, 50 gr de pasta de aceitunas negras, aceite de oliva y vinagre balsámico, sal en escamas, pimienta negra, 200 gr. de rúcula. Salsa pesto: piñones, albahaca, parmesano, aceite de oliva, sal, ajo.

Hacemos la salsa pesto triturando todos los ingredientes y añadiendo poco a poco el aceite, y la reservamos. Pelamos los tomates y los cortamos en finas lonchas que pondremos en el plato, colocamos la burrata en el centro, con mucho cuidado para que no se rompa. Sazonamos con la salsa pesto, un poco de pasta de aceitunas, sal y la pimienta negra. Aparte aliñamos la rúcula con aceite y vinagre, y la ponemos alrededor de la burrata.

Truffles are typical of colder climes, making this find exceptional.It was Jaume Rosselló, from Inca, who discovered this exquisite mushroom that perfumes and enhances dishes, in Inca, Campanet and Capdepera, with the aid of trained dogs brought in from the peninsula and Italy.Chef Andreu Genestra , who has a Michelin star and runs the restaurants Son Jaumell and Aromata, prepared sev-eral dishes based on the truffles found during Capel’s stay. Mallorca may well be the epicentre of the best regattas of the Mediterranean. The Copa del Rey, held at the end of July, is at the forefront of them all, as this sporting event has social repercussions, not least

the presence of the King and Queen of Spain, Felipe and Letizia. The Super Yacht Cup brings together the best competitive super yachts in the world, which put in at Mallorca to take part in one of the trials that lead them to travel all over the world. PalmaVela, hosted by the Real Club Náu-tico de Palma, is another milestone of the season – a season that reaches its climax this year with the Puerto Portals TP52 Regatta, which promises to be the nauti-cal event of the year. The Trofeo Princ-esa Sofía meanwhile, which takes place in early spring with the Club Náutico Arenal as its venue, has been contributing tra-dition and prestige to Mallorca’s regatta scene for several decades now.

Several typical Mallorcan constructions, some of which are centuries old, now func-tion as top hotels held in high esteem by visitors from all over the world. One can discern the passage of history in their high stone walls and the old wooden beams. El paso de la historia puede leerse en sus altos muros de piedra y en las viejas vigas de madera.
