    Vorwort

    Mit der vorliegenden Sammlung habe ich lediglich das Ziel im Auge, fr gyptologischebungen auf Universitten geeigneten Lesestoff aus hieratischen Handschriften inzuverlssiger Gestalt zugnglich zu machen. Die Texte sind, soweit es sich um Papyri des

    Berliner Museums handelt, unter steter Vergleichung der Originale auf Photographienoder Gelatinedurchzeichnungen autographiert.Die notwendigsten Angaben ber Inhalt und Alter der Handschriften sind den einzelnenAbschnitten vorausgeschickt. Als Hilfsmittel setze ich meine Hieratische Palographie(Leipzig, im gleichen Verlage, Bd. 1:1909) voraus; die Zahlen, welche ich seltenen oderbesonders unregelmig gestalteten Zeichen im Texte beigefgt habe, beziehen sich aufdie in dieser Arbeit durchlaufenden Ziffern. Aufschlu ber grammatische Fragen findetder Benutzer, soweit es sich um die Lesestcke des vorliegenden ersten Heftes handelt, inErmans gyptischer Grammatik (2. Auflage Berlin 1902, 3. Auflage in Vorbereitung), denWortschatz wird ihm das gyptische Glossar desselben Autors (Berlin 1904) liefern.Gr. Lichterfelde b. Berlin

    Sinuhe remains away from home for a long time where he,

    especially after emerging victorious from a duel, is held ingreatest esteem. Finally he is given permission to return home.

    Pardoned by the king, he ends his life in honor at the Egyptian court.
