Merry Christmas The beginning of Advent is when the preparations for Christmas really begin - the festive menu is planned, gifts are chosen and wrapped, carols sung, cards are written and posted and houses decorated.

The preparation for Christmas

The fun starts the night before, on the 24th of December. Traditionally this is the day when people decorate their trees. Children had stockings at the end of their beds, hoping that Father Christmas will come down the chimney during the night and fill them with toys and sweets.

Santa Klaus?

Father Christmas?

Väterchen Frost?

Today the Feast of St. Nicholas continues to be celebrated in various parts of the world and, upon waking up on December 6th, children in many parts of the world find candy and other little treats or gifts left in their shoes or stockings by the good saint as he made his rounds during the night.

Adventskalender

A Christmas cracker traditionally contains a paper crown, a small gift and a joke written on a slip of paper.

The traditional way to pull a cracker is crossing your arms

Christmas wreath

The Advent Wreath is the widely recognized symbol of Advent.

The Candle of Hope. We celebrate the hope we have in Jesus Christ. The Candle of Peace. We celebrate the peace we find in Jesus Christ. The Candle of Love. The most popular holiday is Christmas

Relatives usually meet for the big Christmas dinner of turkey and Christmas pudding.

The traditional Christmas tree is a fir tree but now-a-days

more people buy artificial trees to 'save

the earth'. The decorating of the tree

is usually a family occasion, with

everyone helping.

Weihnachtskrippe

One of the most widely known symbols of New Year’s Eve is the image of the Clock Tower at the Palace of Westminster, in London, counting down the last minutes of the old year. The first chimes of Big Ben, the bell housed in the Clock Tower, in the new year are broadcast live on radio and television

In Scotland New Year's celebration is the greatest festival of the year, where it even has a special name,

Hogmanay.

Silvester

• Man feiert dieses Fest am 31. Dezember.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Saint Valentine’s Day in London Visitors to the iconic London Eye will be able to enjoy the Valentine's Cupid Capsule where a couple can enjoy the luxury of a whole London Eye capsule to themselves; with the glorious view over the world's greatest city providing the perfect backdrop to a day of romance.

The Valentine's Cupid Capsule experience comes complete with a red rose, a luxury box of chocolates and a bottle of Pommery Brut Royal Champagne.

Valentinstag

Easter is the time for holidays, festivals and a time for giving chocolate Easter eggs. But Easter means much more....

The Traditional Egg Gift

The bunny as an Easter symbol

Hare and rabbit were the most fertile animals our forefathers knew, serving as symbols of abundant new life in the spring season. The Easter bunny has never had a religious symbolism bestowed on its festive usage, though its white meat is sometimes said to suggest purity and innocence.

The pastry cross on top of the buns symbolises and reminds Christians of the cross that Jesus was killed on.

It is traditional to eat warm 'hot cross buns' on Good Friday.

THE SIMNEL CAKE IS A RICH FRUITCAKE COVERED WITH A THICK LAYER OF ALMOND PASTE

(MARZIPAN) AND EATEN AT EASTER IN GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND.
