2nd Sunday of Easter (Cycle A) Divine Mercy Sunday A Sunday Reflection Our God is a God of mercy who does not cease to search for the
sinner so that he may repent and live. In the gospel of St. Matthew, Jesus quotes from the prophet Hosea “It is mercy I desire, not sacrifice” (Hos 6:6). And in the century that saw the most violent and ruthless wars and annihilation, he appeared to St. Faustina Kowalska to bid us come to his mercy. Through her Jesus tells us of his desire to be a “refuge and shelter for all souls”, saying: “I pour out an ocean of mercy on those souls who approach the fountain of my mercy” (Diary of St. Faustina Kowalska, 699). In response to the Lord’s request to St. Faustina, Pope St. John Paul II instituted this Sunday as Divine Mercy Sunday.
These past few weeks we have lived with uncertainty and fear for our health, for our families, for our financial situation. Remember that Jesus’ heart, a heart full of mercy and compassion, is always open to us, caring for us. When dark thoughts threaten to overwhelm us, let us invoke Him with the words He taught St. Faustina: Jesus, I trust in you.
Today, as we hear Thomas proclaim Jesus “My Lord and my God”, let us approach with confidence this fountain of mercy that we may find in him all grace and mercy. God bless you!

Domingo de la Divina Misericordia Reflexión Dominical
Nuestro Dios es un Dios de misericordia que no deja de buscar al pecador para que se arrepienta y viva. En el evangelio de San Mateo, Jesús cita la frase del profeta Oseas: “Misericordia quiero, no sacrificio” (Os 6,6). En el siglo que vio guerras despiadadas y terrible aniquilación, se apareció a Santa Faustina Kowalska para invitarnos a acudir a su misericordia. A través de ella Jesús nos expresa su deseo de ser “refugio y amparo para todas las almas”. Desea derramar un mar de gracias sobre las almas que se acercan al manantial de su misericordia (Diario de Santa Faustina Kowalska, 699).En respuesta a la petición que el Señor hizo a Santa Faustina, el papa San Juan Pablo II instituyó este domingo como Domingo de la Divina Misericordia.
En las últimas semanas hemos vivido con incertidumbre y temor temiendo por nuestra salud, nuestras familias, nuestra situación económica. Recordemos que el corazón de Jesús, lleno de misericordia y compasión, está siempre abierto para nosotros y nos cuida. Cuando las dudas nos atormenten, invoquémoslo con las palabras que Él mismo enseñó a Santa Faustina: Jesús, en ti confío.
Hoy que escuchamos a Tomás proclamar a Jesús como “Señor mío y Dios mío”, acerquémonos con confianza a esta fuente de misericordia para encontrar en ella ese manantial de gracias que nos ha prometido. Que Dios los bendiga.

Meet the Saints /Conozca a los Santos SAINT MARIA RITA LOPES PONTES (1914-1992) — in
religion, Dulce. Also known as Saint Dulce of the Poor, she was a Brazilian Franciscan Sister who was the founder of the Obras Sociais Irmã Dulce, the Charitable Works Foundation of Sister Dulce.
In 1949, she started caring for the poorest of the poor in her convent's chicken yard in Salvador, Bahia. Today, more than 3,000 people arrive every day at this same site (where the Santo Antônio Hospital now stands) to receive free medical treatment. She also established CESA, a school for the poor in one of the most impoverished cities in the state of Bahia.
At the time of her death in 1992, Sister Dulce had been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, received two personal audiences with Pope John Paul II, and had, almost single-handedly, created one of the largest and most respected philanthropic organizations in Brazil. She was named the most admired woman in the history of Brazil as well as the most influential religious person in Brazil during the 20th century. She was canonized in October 2019.
SANTA MARIA RITA LOPES PONTES (1914-1992) — en religión, Dulce. También conocida como Santa Dulce de los Pobres, franciscana brasileña que fundó las Obras Sociais Irmã Dulce, Fundación de Trabajos Caritativos de la Hermana Dulce.
En 1949 comenzó a cuidar de los más pobres en el gallinero de su convento en Salvador, Bahía. Hoy más de 3,000 personas acuden a este mismo lugar (donde ahora se encuentra el Hospital Santo Antonio) para recibir atención médica gratuita. La Hermana Dulce también estableció CESA, una escuela para pobres en uno de los lugares más empobrecidos de Bahía.
A su muerte, ocurrida en 1992, había sido nominada para el Premio Nobel de la Paz; recibido dos audiencias personales con el Papa Juan Pablo II y creado casi en solitario una de las mayores y más reconocidas organizaciones de Brasil. Fue nombrada la mujer más admirada así como la religiosa más influyente de Brasil en el siglo XX. El Papa Francisco la canonizó en octubre de 2019.

Sub Tuum This prayer, known in Latin as Sub tuum Praesidium and first found in a Greek papyrus, c. 300 A.D., is the oldest known prayer to the Virgin.
We turn to you for protection,

The Pope Speaks / Habla el Papa
General Audience, April 19, 2017 In the light of Easter which we have celebrated and we are
continuing to celebrate in the Liturgy,… I would like to speak to you today about the Risen Christ, our hope…. Christianity started from here. It is not an ideology; it is not a philosophical system; rather it
is a path of faith which begins with an event witnessed by Jesus’ first disciples. Paul summarizes it like this: Jesus died for our sins,
he was buried, and on the third day He rose and appeared to Peter and to the twelve [apostles]. (cf. 1 Cor 15:3-5). This is the fact: He
died, He was buried, He rose and He appeared. That is, Jesus is alive! This is the heart of the Christian message.
How beautiful it is to think that Christianity is essentially this! It is not so much our search for God — a search which in truth is tenuous —, but rather God’s
search for us. Jesus took us, grasped us, won us over, never more to leave us. Christianity is grace. It is surprise and, for this reason, it implies a heart that is capable of amazement. A closed heart, a rationalist heart is incapable of amazement and cannot understand what
Christianity is because Christianity is grace, and grace can only be perceived, and furthermore, it happens in the amazement of the encounter.
Audiencia General, 19 de abril de 2017 A la luz de la Pascua, que hemos celebrado y continuamos celebrando con la Liturgia,
(…) hoy deseo hablaros de Cristo Resucitado, nuestra esperanza. (…) El cristianismo nace
de aquí. No es una ideología, no es un sistema filosófico, sino que es un camino de fe que
parte de un acontecimiento, testimoniado por los primeros discípulos de Jesús. Pablo lo
resume de esta manera: Jesús ha muerto por nuestros pecados, fue sepultado, y el tercer
día resucitó y se apareció a Pedro y a los Doce (cf 1 Corintios 15,3-5). Este es el hecho:
murió, fue sepultado, resucitó y se apareció. Es decir, ¡Jesús está vivo! Este es el núcleo
del mensaje cristiano.
¡Qué bonito es pensar que el cristianismo, esencialmente, es esto! No es tanto nuestra
búsqueda respecto a Dios —una búsqueda, en verdad, tan titubeante—, sino más bien la
búsqueda de Dios respecto a nosotros. Jesús nos ha tomado, nos ha agarrado, nos ha
conquistado para no dejarnos más. El cristianismo es gracia, es sorpresa, y por este
motivo presupone un corazón capaz de estupor. Un corazón racionalista es incapaz del
estupor, y no puede entender qué es el cristianismo. Porque el cristianismo es gracia, y la
gracia solamente se percibe, y aún más se encuentra en el estupor del encuentro.

Misericordia Para hacer que los fieles vivan con intensa piedad esta celebración, el mismo Sumo Pontífice ha establecido que el citado domingo se enriquezca con la indulgencia plenaria (…) con las condiciones habituales (…) al fiel que, en el segundo domingo de Pascua, llamado de la Misericordia Divina, en cualquier iglesia u oratorio, con espíritu totalmente alejado del afecto a todo pecado, incluso venial, participe en actos de piedad realizados en honor de la Misericordia divina, o al menos rece, en presencia del Santísimo Sacramento de la Eucaristía, públicamente expuesto o conservado en el Sagrario, el Padrenuestro y el Credo, añadiendo una invocación piadosa al Señor Jesús misericordioso (por ejemplo, “Jesús misericordioso, confío en ti”).

This year, the St. Hugh Parish Sr. Kathleen Donnelly Scholarship Committee
will select one or more award recipients who will receive or share up to $10,000 of scholarship funding, covering up to 95% of annual tuition, books, and school
related fees for one school year. The scholarship is need based and the exact amount awarded will be determined by the Scholarship Committee.
Deadline is May 1, 2020.
