Exercise caution whenhandling liquefiedpetroleum gas (LPG)! Use only LPG cylinders with a

power gas filling in compliancewith DIN 51622, quality A or Brespectively, depending on theambient temperature.

Note:Household gas is forbidden!Liquefied gas mixtures ofpropane/butane whose mixing ratiois between 90/10 and 30/70 arepermissible for the gas engine.Since vaporisation already occurs atlow tempratures and because of theimproved cold-start performance, inoutdoor temperatures below 0°C(32 °F) preference is to be given toan LPG with a high propanepercentage.

Safety relevant guidelinesfor LPG-powered vehicles

Principle association of thecommercial employers' liabilityinsurance association. Central officefor the prevention of accidents- Valid as of 1.7.1950 -Liquefied petroleum gases (fuelgases) are BUTANE andPROPANE, or aBUTANE/PROPANE-mixture. Theyare supplied in special cylinders. The operating pressure for thesegases depends on the externaltemperature.

Danger!Do not handle liquefied petroleumgas like petrol! Petrol vaporisesslowly, liquefied petroleum gasvaporises immediately. The dangerof room gasification and ignition isgreater with liquefied petroleum gasthan with petrol.

Obligations of plant managementand the employer! All persons working with liquefied

petroleum gas are obligated toappropriate knowledge about thespecial characteristics of liquefiedpetroleum gas necessary for thesafe operation of the enterprise. The present document mustalways accompany the sweeper.

Maintenance by specialists! Fuel gas systems are to be

checked by specialists for properfunction and seal (as per ZH1/57) at regular intervals, at leastonce a year.

! The inspection must be certifiedin writing. Basis for theinspections are § 33 and § 37 ofregulations for the prevention ofaccidents, "Utilisation of liquefiedpetroleum gas"(VGB 21).

! The guidelines for the inspectionof vehicles driven by liquefiedgas by the Federal Ministry forTransportation from 29.09.1969are applicable as a general rule.

Start up / operation! Gas may only be withdrawn from

one cylinder. Withdrawing gassimultaneously from more thanone cylinder can cause LPG toflood from one cylinder intoanother. Following subsequentclosing of the cylinder's valve thiscauses the overfilled cylinderbeing subjected to animpermissible rise in pressure(cf. B. 1 of this guideline).

! For mounting the full cylinder themark showing the correct positionof the cylinder is "top". (Threadedconnection points verticallyupwards)

The gas cylinders must beexchanged very carefully. Whenmounting and dismounting it the gasoutlet neck of the cylinder valvemust be sealed with a hexagon capnut firmly tightened with a spanner.

! Leaking gas cylinders must notbe used again. They are to beimmediately emptied outdoors bydeflation while observing allsafety measures, and thenlabelled as leaking. Whendamaged gas cylinders aredelivered or fetched the rentingcompany or its representative(service station attendant orsimilar person) must immediatelybe informed of this damage inwriting.

! Prior to connecting gas cylinderstheir connecting necks must beinspected to ensure they are inorder.

! After its connection the cylindermust be tested for leaks usingfoaming media.

! The valves are to opened slowly!Striking tools must not be usedfor opening and closing.

! Use only dry carbon dioxideextinguishers or carbon dioxidegas extinguishers on firesinvolving LPG!

! The whole LPG installation mustbe regularly monitored for itsoperational reliability, especiallyregarding leaks. The use ofmotor vehicles around leakinggas systems is forbidden.

! Close the cylinder valve prior todisconnecting the union or thehose connection. The connectingnut on the cylinder must beloosened slowly and at first onlya little, as otherwise the gasunder pressure in the line willescape spontaneously.

! If gas is replenished from a giantgas holder the relevantregulations shall be obtainedfrom the concerned LPG large-scale distributor.

Danger!Liquefied petroleum gas producesfrost-related injuries when it comesinto contact with bare skin!Following removal the hexagon capnut must be tightly screwed onto thecylinder’s connection thread. To test whether the cylinder leaks, soapy water, a nekal solution, orother foaming agent is to be used.Illuminating the liquefied gas systemwith an open flame is forbidden..The installation regulations of themanufacturer must be observedwhen replacing individual systemparts. Cylinders- and main stopvalves are to be closed. The condition of the electricalsystem of LPG-powered vehicles isto be constantly monitored. Sparkscan cause explosions if there areleaks in the gas-containing systemparts. Thoroughly ventilate theadjusting bay prior to initialoperation of an LPG-poweredvehicle or its electrical systemsfollowing any extended shutdownsof such a vehicle. The commercial employers' liabilityinsurance association and theresponsible trade supervisory officemust be notified immediately aboutaccidents concerning gas cylindersor a liquefied gas system. Damagedparts must be stored in a safe placeuntil the investigation is concluded.
