Digital ampingMore efficiency and dynamics.

With an extremely high efficiency of over 90% Class-D digital amps are considerably smaller, lighter, and more compact than conventional amps. The lower thermal load of the components enhancesreliability. The considerably faster slew rate and thehigher damping factor are audible in the system’stransient response and more accurate performance.

OFR™Optimized Frequency Response Technology

HK AUDIO’s unique OFR™ technology delivercommanding yet well-balanced sound at every level. It corrects for non-linear frequency response in the speaker components at the same time as itcompensates for the way human hearing works at varying levels.

MultiBand LimitingSpecialized limiting for each frequency range

Several limiters, each specializing in its ownfrequency range, work side by side to keep the entiresystem under control. This ensures even dynamicresponse and punchy projection for a highly musicalsound across the entire frequency spectrum.

Subsonic FilterPreventing Low Frequency Interference

The integrated subsonic filter eliminates accidentaland unintentional signals such footfalls, wind, or thesound of a hand accidentally brushing a microphone. It cuts these frequencies drastically, freeing energy to render bass impulses better. Goodbye squasheddynamics and artificial sound, hello authenticity andnatural sounding low/mid frequencies.

DuoTilt™Making the most of sonic energy

The new DuoTilt™ speaker stand mounting collarsallow for a more efficient use of sound energy. With two possible downward angles (7,5°, 15°) to better aim the satellite speakers directly at theaudience, troublesome ceiling reflections areminimized for a tighter, clearer sound.

1 Gain Mic InTwist this knob to adjust the microphone’s level.

Note: You can adjust the microphone and line inputs separately and mix them as desired.

2 Mic InThis electronically balanced XLR input is designed to take a microphone. (pin 1= ground, 2= +, 3= -).

3 Gain Line InThis knob lets you adjust the power amp to matchthe input signal level; helps you prevent distortionwhen you’re patching in signals with higher levels.

4 Line InElectronically balanced XLR input designed to acceptsignals from the output of a mixing console (pin 1 = ground, pin 2 = +, pin 3 = -).

5 ThroughParallel output for routing the Line signal to othercomponents, for instance, to additional D.A.R.Tmonitors.

6 CD/Tape InRCA phono jack input for external signal sourcessuch as CD players or tape decks. The incomingstereo signal is mixed down to a monaural signal so that both channels can be rendered. Use the Gain Line In knob to adjust the CD/Tape In input level.

7 EQActive 2-band tone controls. As expected, High boostsand cuts treble frequencies, Low boosts and cutsbass frequencies.

8 Limiter Status LEDsThese tricolor LEDs indicate the operating status of the MultiBand Limiter; there is one LED for the 1" driver and the 12" speaker. (green = signal, yellow = soft limit, red = full limit).

Caution! This LED is not a clipping indicator. If the LED flashes red every now and then, it’s ok.This simply tells you that the limiter is operating at full capacity.

9 GroundGround lift switch for separating the signal and chassisground when you encounter hum. The ground circuitis severed when you press the button.

Caution: Never tape over the AC plug’s groundterminal – this endangers lives!

10 FuseMains fuse. This fuse will blow in the event of adefect or malfunction, cutting D.A.R.T off from themains power supply and protecting it from damage.Replace it with the same type of fuse only.

11 Mains InputUse the factory-included power cord to connect thissocket to a mains power supply.

Caution: Make sure the local mains voltage matchesthe voltage specified on the device. Connecting thesystem to the wrong mains voltage will likely destroyD.A.R.T’s electronic components, and is not covered under warranty.

2 Setting Up and Connecting D.A.R.T

Connect the cord that carries the signal from yourmixing console (from its Monitor Out or Line Out, ora similar labeled output jack) to the balanced Line In.Use a cord equipped with standard XLR microphoneconnectors to do this. Make sure the XLR connectorshave the following pin assignments: pin 1 = ground, 2 = +, 3 = -.

Connect the cord carrying the signal from your CD playeror tape deck (CD Out, Tape Out, or a similarly labeledoutput jack) to the CD/Tape In jack of the D.A.R.T.Use a cord equipped with RCA phono connectors to do this.

If you want to connect a microphone directly toD.A.R.T without plugging into a mixing console, simplyplug an XLR microphone cord into the balanced Mic In. Make sure the XLR connectors have thefollowing pin assignments: pin 1 = ground, 2 = +, 3 = -.

3 Operating the System Safely

Make sure the Power On switch is set to the Off position.

Caution! Before you plug D.A.R.T into a wall outlet, ensure your local mains voltage matches the specifica-tion indicated on the device’s rear panel. ConnectingD.A.R.T to the wrong mains voltage can result in thedestruction of its electronic components!

Turn the Gain knobs (Gain Line In and Gain Mic) allthe way down (counterclockwise as far as the knobswill go). Before powering up D.A.R.T, make sure all otherconnected components are turned on first. Every-thing connected to the mixing console that feeds asignal into it, such as keyboards, instrument amps, effects, and so forth, should be switched on first, then the mixing console, and finally D.A.R.T (and if D.A.R.T is serving as a monitor, then the main PA amplifier/s).

Only then should you begin to turn up the Gain fromzero to whatever level you need. The preferred levelwhen you connect a mixing console to D.A.R.T is toset the Gain Line In knobs to the center or 12 o’clockposition (= 0 dBV). If you connect a CD player or akeyboard directly to the D.A.R.T – depending on inputsignal level – turn the GAIN knob clockwise all theway to the far right to achieve maximum volume.

When powering down your system, always turn thevolume back down to zero and switch D.A.R.T offfirst, and then proceed to switch off all connecteddevices.

4 Settings

Gain Line In Knob If the signal is distorted or saturated, first check thesignal source and, if possible, reduce the outputsignal level there. If the signal that you are routing to D.A.R.T cannotbe adjusted at the source, adjust D.A.R.T’s poweramp by backing off the Gain Line In knob.

Gain Mic In Knob Twist this knob to adjust the volume of the microphone.

Note: You can adjust the microphone and line inputs separately and mix them as desired. If thesignal is distorted or saturated, turn down the Gain Mic In knob.

Ground Lift SwitchIf you encounter low frequency hum, activate theGround Lift switch. The ground circuit is severedwhen you press the button. If this doesn’t work, check all cords connected to D.A.R.T and all signalsrouted to the mixing console until you pinpoint the problem.

Caution! Never tape over the AC plug’s groundterminal – this endangers lives!

EQAdjust the sound as desired using the active two-bandtone controls. High boosts and cuts treble frequencies,Low boosts and cuts bass frequencies.

5 Aligning D.A.R.T on Speaker Stands

The HK AUDIO® DuoTilt™ lets you align D.A.R.Thorizontally to prevent or reduce troublesome ceiling reflections. The front opening of the HK AUDIO® DuoTilt™ givesyou a 7.5° angle of tilt, and the rear opening givesyou a 15° angle of tilt.

If you choose to set D.A.R.T on a fully extended cabinettripod or mounting pole, insert the pole into theopening that provides an angle of 15°. This alignment option is preferable when you wantto address an audience where less listeners are standing directly in front of the speakers. If you want to address an audience where morelisteners are farther away from the loudspeakers, opt for the 7.5° angle.

6 Tips and Tricks 1 Do not expose electronic circuitry to moisture!

When you set the system up outdoors, be sure toprotect it against rain. Keep soft drinks, beer or anyother liquids well away from the cabinets to protecttheir electronic components from short circuits, which could fry them.

2 D.A.R.T delivers optimum sound, so you shouldprovide it with optimum input signals! Noise suchas hum is generally caused by defective cables, thewrong type of cords, or unbalanced signals routedinto the mixing console. Check all signal and mains cables.

3 Prevent distortion! Not only is it unpleasant to theears of your audience, it can also endanger yourequipment. Make sure that all components which are connec-ted (both directly and indirectly) to D.A.R.T havesufficient power ratings, and that they don’t distortbecause they‘re running within their respective li-mits. Provide an undistorted signal to the systemthat doesn’t have to be cleaned up by backing offthe GAIN knob.

4 Avoid ground loops! In spite of a balanced signalcircuit, redundant ground circuits in a single audiosystem may generate undesirable humming. For example, you may encounter a ground loopwhen the mixer is grounded via a mains cordwhich isn’t connected to the same mains circuit as D.A.R.T. To prevent this problem, always be sure to connect D.A.R.T and the mixing console to thesame electrical circuit (same phase!). If your setup hums despite this precaution, theGround Lift switch can be a great help.

Caution! Never tape over the AC plug’s groundterminal – this endangers lives!

7 TroubleshootingThe Power switch does not light up red after youswitch the system on.• Check if the mains cord is plugged all the way into

the Mains Input jack.• Check if the mains power supply is actually provi-

ding current.

The Power switch lights up red, but no sound iscoming from D.A.R.T.• Check the cables that you connected to Line In

and Mic In.• Check if the signal sources (mixer, keyboard,

CD player) are on.• Are the Gain Line In or Mic In knobs turned up?

The signal coming from the speaker sounds distorted.• Check the LED displays at your mixer. They should

not be constantly in the red. If necessary, back offthe volume at the mixer.

• If the LED displays on your mixer are in the green, turn down the Gain Line In knob on D.A.R.T.

• Observe the Limiter 1" and Limiter 12" LEDs onD.A.R.T’s control panel. These should light up redfor no more than a brief moment. Under no circumstances may the red LEDsilluminate continuously. If this is the case, turndown the corresponding GAIN knob.

Annoying hum• Check the cables that you are using to connect

the signal source to D.A.R.T If any are damaged, replace them immediately.

• If you cannot pinpoint the cause of the hum, press the Ground Lift switch. This should in most cases fix the problem.

Falls Sie ein Mikrofon direkt ohne Mischpult anD.A.R.T anschliessen möchten, verwenden Sie diesymmetrierte Mic In Buchse. Verwenden Sie dazu einXLR-Mikrofonkabel.

SchliessenSie deshalb stets D.A.R.T und Mischpult an dengleichen Stromkreis (gleiche Phase!) an.

Gain Mic In

aufgedreht?

Die Musikwiedergabe scheint verzerrt zu sein.• Überprüfen Sie die LED Anzeigen an Ihrem Misch-

pult.

OFR™Optimized Frequency Response Technologie

Mic In?
