Liebe Mitglieder,

Although the industrial and construction indicators held the U.S. LEI back in November, the weakness was off-set by improvements in the interest rate spread, initial unemployment insurance claims, and stock prices.”

Since 1999, the logistics companies Gebrüder Weiss and Röhlig have operated out of their respective air and sea freight offices overseas under the joint name “Weiss-Röhlig”. Both companies are now announcing that this joint brand name will be phased out in 2017. In the medium term, both logistics companies would like to operate in the market under their respective brand names, “Gebrüder Weiss” or “Röhlig”. All locations will continue to operate and will bear either the name “Röhlig” or “Gebrüder Weiss” depending on which company is the owner. In the United States, too, where the two companies run a joint venture, it is planned that they should in future operate under separate names. For this purpose, it is planned to form two independent companies out of the joint

Culture

Georgia O’Keeffeuntil March 26th

Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien1010 Vienna

Georgia O’Keeffe (1887–1986) was a founder of American Modernism and a pioneer as an artist. The opportunities to see O’Keeffe in Europe are rare: her paintings are distributed around the leading US collections, where they have gained an iconic status. This retro-spective now provides a view for the first time in Austria of O’Keeffe’s oeuvre, which encompasses seven decades. Among the exhibits is also Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 (1932), the most expensive picture by a woman artist ever auctioned.

O’Keeffe debuted in 1916 in an artistic circle dominated by men surrounding her later husband, the photographer Alfred Stieglitz. The exhibition starts off with her lesser known early work, with its close affinity to Wassily Kandinsky’s “spiritual” abstraction. O’Keeffe’s monu-mental flower pictures of the 1920s, which under the influence of the writings of Sigmund Freud evoked strongly sexualising interpretations, are among her most popular subjects. Formal specifics like the sharp focus, the cutting-edge delineation and the close-up are a visual de-monstration of O’Keeffe’s innovative transposition of photographic strategies into painting. The show underlines this artistic dialogue with a selection of photographs by Alfred, Ansel Adams and Paul Strand. O’Keeffe’s almost abstract late landscapes inspired by the bleak, endless desert of New Mexico embody the creation of “The Great American Thing”, a specific American art, and anticipate the art trends of Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism. The exhibition accentuates O’Keeffe’s singular position, assumed through her bridge-building between European Modernism and American post-war abstraction, also through her constant mediation between a relationship with nature and abstraction, between organic and geometric, feeling and de-personalisation.

The exhibition was organized by Tate Modern in cooperation with the Bank Austria Kunstforum and the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto.

Babette Mangolte. I = Eye

until February 12h

Kunsthalle Wien Museumsquartier1070 Vienna

Babette Mangolte (US citizen, born in France 1941) is an iconic figure of the international experimental film. I = EYE serves as a landmark celebration of her seminal artistic œuvre and is one of her most comprehensive solo exhibitions to date. Mangolte’s early interests lay within the field of performance: documenting the art, dance and theater scene of the 1970s. In the late 1970s she began to focus on the urban environment and the vast landscapes of the U.S. West Coast. I = Eye presents a diverse array of Mangolte’s films and photographic works (including re-cent projects revisiting the transcription of performance and its his-toricisation.) They connect in an absolutely unique form influences from silent cinema, American experimental films, and feminist film theory to generate her very special handwriting.

Nocturnal Animals

now in Cinemas

Nocturnal Animals is a 2016 American neo-noir psychological thriller film written, co-produced and directed by Tom Ford, based on the 1993 novel Tony and Susan by Austin Wright. The film stars Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal.A „story inside a story,“ in which the first part follows a woman named Susan who receives a book manuscript from her ex- husband, a man whom she left 20 years earlier, asking for her opinion.

The second element follows the ac-tual manuscript, called „Nocturnal Animals,“ which revolves around a man whose family vacation turns violent and deadly. It also continues to follow the story of Susan, who finds her-self recalling her first marriage and con-fronting some dark truths about herself.
