PS.

Berlin 1898 Juni 26. A. Beyberich.

On the Constant of Aberration. From observations made here according to Talcott's

method the value of the constant of aberration is 20!'47 7 f 0!'040.

The constant obtained from stars of average magnitude 4.4 is 20:639 +ofo75. From those of average magnitude 5.4 it is

20!'430 +0!'063,

and from those of average magnitude 6.4 it is 20!'385 -~=0!'066.

The fact that the constant of aberration thus deter- mined is found to depend upon the magnitude of the stars observed may possibly serve to explain differences in the values obtained at different observatories, which differences far exceed their probable errors.

Hongkong Observatory, loth May 1898. W. Doberck.
