del Habano Partagás, dem legendären Geschäft an der

Calle Industria. Stromausfall! Kein Problem für die Gäs-

te in der VIP-Lounge, die mit dem Licht einer iPhone-

Taschenlampe in Ruhe weiterrauchen. Auch die neue

Chefin der Casa, Grecia Anely Quiñones Marrero, lässt

sich von diesem vorübergehenden Problem nicht mehr

aus der Ruhe bringen. Sie hat ihre Feuertaufe bestan-

den und ihr erstes Treffen der Freunde von Partagás

erfolgreich über die Bühne gebracht. Die Lounge-Be-

sucher schwärmen vom Eröffnungsdinner unter offe-

nem Himmel auf der Plaza de la Catedral in der Altstadt

Havannas und der tadellosen Organisation.

Seinen Ursprung hat das Partagás-Treffen in den

Neunziger-Jahren. Der damalige Geschäftsführer der

Casa, Abel Expósito Diaz, initiierte diesen einwöchi-

gen Anlass, um die Freunde des Hauses zusammen zu

bringen. Abel integrierte die Mitarbeiter der Partagás-

Blackout! No problem for the guests in the VIP lounge,

who continue smoking in peace by the light of an iPhone

flashlight. The new boss of the casa, Grecia Anely Quiño-

nes Marrero, doesn’t let the temporary issue bother her,

either. She’s survived the baptism by fire and pulled off

her first meeting of the Friends of Partagás successfully.

The lounge visitors are raving about the opening dinner

on the Plaza de la Catedral in Havana’s Old Town under

the open sky and the excellent organization.

The Partagás meetings started in the Nineties. The

casa’s then manager, Abel Expósito Diaz, initiated these

one-week events to bring the friends of the house

together. Abel included the employees from the Par-

tagás factory, which gave Habanos fans the unique op-

portunity to personally meet the experts who manu-

facture their beloved cigars. “During the first few years,

Manufaktur, was den Habanos-Fans die

einmalige Möglichkeit gab, die Fachleute

persönlich zu treffen, welche ihre gelieb-

ten Zigarren herstellten. „In den ersten

Jahren chauffierte uns der gelbe Partagás-

Bus zusammen mit den Mitarbeitern der

Fabrik zu Ausflügen“, erinnert sich Hote-

lier Mario Cioffi aus Sardinien, der die An-

fänge des Festivals miterlebt hat. „Einmal

verwehrte man den Kubanern den Zutritt

in ein Hotel, in dem ein Essen stattfinden

sollte. Wir haben protestiert und so lange

vor der Türe gewartet, bis eine Bewilli-

gung für die Kubaner ausgestellt wurde.“

Das Treffen wuchs in den vergangenen

Jahren stetig, konnte seinen familiären

Charakter aber beibehalten. Es findet im-

mer im November und manchmal zusätz-

lich im Frühjahr statt. Traditionell beginnt

und endet es mit einem Dinner, dazwi-

schen organisiert das Team der Casa Aus-

flüge nach Pinar del Rio, Fabrikbesuche,

einen Strandplausch usw.

Vor einem Jahr erschütterte die Verhaf-

tung von Abel Expósito Diaz kurz vor

dem Event die Partagás-Freunde. Abel

war nicht nur der Initiator der Treffen,

sondern auch lange Jahre das inoffiziel-

le „Oberhaupt“ der Partagás-Familie. Bis

zum heutigen Tag gibt es seitens von Ha-

banos S.A. keine förmliche Stellungnah-

me zu diesem Vorkommnis. Die wie auch

immer gearteten Vorwürfe haben sich auf

jeden Fall nicht erhärtet; Abel ist wieder

frei und von aller Schuld reingewaschen,

die Rückkehr zu Partagás blieb ihm aber

verwehrt. Nach einer Übergangslösung

im vergangenen Jahr hat nun Grecia Ane-

ly Quiñones Marrero, die zuvor als Store-

Managerin in Cayo Coco und im Hotel

Parque Central arbeitete, das Steuer über-

nommen.

An der engen Freundschaft, die viele Be-

sucher verbindet, hat der personelle Neu-

start bei Partagás nichts geändert. „Das ist

die Kraft der Zigarren“, sagt der Italiener

Mario Cioffi, der die Treffen von Partagás

seit 16 Jahren besucht. „Wenn ich eine Zi-

garre rauche, sitze ich zwei Stunden mit

anderen Leuten zusammen. Man hat viel

Zeit, um zu sprechen. So entstehen enge

Beziehungen.“

Ähnlich wie das Festival del Habano sind

auch die Encuentros de los Amigos de Par-

tagás ein exzellenter Ausgangspunkt für

eine Kuba-Reise. Zum Unterschied meint

Casa-Chefin Grecia: „Das Festival del Ha-

bano hat einen geschäftlichen Charakter,

es geht um die Vermittlung von Informa-

tionen. Das Encuentro de los Amigos de

Partagás hingegen ist ein großes Fest.“ Zu

jedem kubanischen Fest gehören feine

Zigarren. Und diese werden reichlich ver-

teilt – am liebsten von Partagás, der Name

verpflichtet eben. Neben den Zigarren

aus der Standard-Produktion sind die Pu-

ros aus den Händen von Hausrollerin La

China besonders begehrt. Gerade recht-

zeitig erhielten die Geschäfte in Havanna

im November außerdem die El Rey del

Mundo Infantes Edición Cuba 2013, was

den allgemeinen Jagd- und Sammeltrieb

anregte. Zum familiären Charakter des

Treffens gehören schließlich viele private

Initiativen. Stammgast Alexandre Avellar

aus Brasilien organisierte ein Tasting mit

der Bolívar Redentor Edición Regional

Brasil 2013, Cachaça und einer brasiliani-

schen Zigarre. Und der Schweizer Händler

Andreas Stachl lud zum Spanferkel-Essen

ein. Die Versteigerung in der abschließen-

den Gala-Nacht brachte 28.000 Euro ein,

insgesamt besuchten 250 Gäste die Aus-

gabe 2013 des Encuentros. Chefin Grecia

Anely Quiñones Marrero ist am Ende zu-

frieden und froh, dass die Gäste, die lange

mit dem Haus Partagás verbunden sind,

ihre anfängliche Zurückhaltung abgelegt

haben: „Die Partagás-Familie hat mich

aufgenommen.“

the yellow Partagás bus took us and the

employees from the factory on day-trips,”

remembers hotelier Mario Cioffi from Sar-

dinia, who experienced the beginnings of

the festival. “One time, the Cubans weren’t

allowed into the hotel where we were

supposed to be dining. We protested and

waited outside the door until they issued

permits for all the Cubans.”

In the last few years, the meetings have

constantly been growing, while the fami-

liar character has also been maintained.

It is held in November every year and

sometimes, additionally, in spring. Tradi-

tionally, it begins and ends with a dinner;

during the week, the Casa team organi-

zes trips to Pinar del Río, factory tours,

fun meetings on the beach, and so on.

A year ago, the arrest of Abel Expósito Diaz

shortly before the event shocked Partagás

friends. Abel was not only the initiator of

the meeting, but had also been the unof-

ficial “boss” of the Partagás family for many

years. To this day, Habanos S.A. has still not

issued a formal statement on the matter.

In any case, the allegations have not been

substantiated; Abel is free again and has

been cleared of all guilt; but his return to

Partagás was denied. Following an interim

solution last year, Grecia Anely Quiñones

Marrero, who used to be the store manager

in Cayo Coco and at the Hotel Parque Cen-

tral, has now taken over the reins.

However, since the change in personnel

at Partagás, nothing has changed with

the close friendship that connects many

visitors. “That’s the power of cigars,”

says the Italian Mario Cioffi, who has

been attending the Partagás meetings

for 16 years. “When I smoke a cigar I sit

around with other people for a couple

of hours. We’ve got a lot of time to talk.

That’s how relationships start.”

Similarly to the Festival del Habano, the

Encuentros de los Amigos de Partagás are

also an excellent starting point for a trip

to Cuba. In contrast, casa manager Grecia

says, “The Festival del Habano has more

of a business character; it’s about the dis-

semination of information. The Encuentro

de los Amigos de Partagás, on the other

hand, is a big party.” Fine cigars belong to

any Cuban party. And these are generous-

ly distributed – preferably from Partagás,

of course! Alongside the standard-produc-

tion cigars, the Puros from the hands of

the house roller La China are particularly

popular. Just at the right time, in Novem-

ber the stores in Havana also received the

El Rey del Mundo Infantes Edición Cuba

2013, which stimulated the general hun-

ter and collector’s instinct. Something that

contributes to the familiar character of the

meetings includes many private initiatives.

Alexandre Avellar from Brazil, a regular at

the meetings, organized a tasting with the

Bolívar Redentor Edición Regional Brasil

2013, cachaça and a Brazilian cigar. And

the Swiss dealer Andreas Stachl treated

the group to a suckling pig meal. The auc-

tion on the following gala evening brought

in 28,000 euros; a total of 250 attended the

2013 edition of the Encuentros. At the end,

the boss Grecia Anely Quiñones Marrero

is satisfied and happy that the guests who

have been connected to the house of Par-

tagás for so long have dispensed with their

initial reluctance towards her. “The Par-

tagás family has taken me in.”
