‘PREY – WHEN LOVE FALLS SILENT’

"Prey - Stille meine Liebe" ist die weltweit einzigartige Würdigung des mit fast 200 Millionen verkauften Tonträgern bis heute erfolgreichsten Klassikkünstler Deutschlands - Hermann Prey. Der Dokumentarfilm ist kein klischeehaftes „best of“ seiner Karrierehöhepunkte. Sondern er erzählt die Geschichte des Weltstars und Menschen Hermann Prey anhand unveröffentlichter privater Super 8 Aufnahmen und Konzertmitschnitten.

‘Prey – When Love Falls Silent’ is a unique cinematic homage to Hermann Prey, with close to 200 million recordings sold, Germany’s all-time best-selling classical musician. Our documentary is anything but a clichéd “best of” collection of career highlights. Instead, it relies heavily on previously unreleased Super 8 home movie and live concert footage to tell the story of Hermann Prey both as an international star and as a human being.

Eine Geschichte erzählt aus den persönlichen Blickwinkeln der Menschen, denen Hermann Prey sehr viel bedeutet hat und noch immer bedeutet. Seiner Familie und weltberühmter Kollegen wie Jonas Kaufmann und Thomas Hampson. Ungewohnt offen schildern sie vor der Kamera, wie viel Kraft, Hingabe und Verzicht es kostet, ein Weltstar von der Dimension Hermann Preys zu sein. Und mit einem Weltstar auch ein privates Leben zu leben. Prey war sich seiner sicher und das er berühmt werden würde. Aber er war sich genau so sicher, dass er dafür seine Frau an seiner Seite brauchte. Und dass beide dafür die Kinder bei den Großeltern zurücklassen mussten.

We also see Prey through the eyes of the people who were closest to him, both personally and professionally: his family and world-famous colleagues including Jonas Kaufmann and Thomas Hampson. With unusual openness, they appear on camera and talk about what it takes to be an international star on the scale of Hermann Prey – the enormous energy, commitment and willingness to do without so many aspects of private life. And what it means to live a family life with an international star. Prey was always sure of his ability and never doubted he was destined for fame. But he was equally convinced that he needed a wife at his side. And that this would mean leaving the children to be raised by their grandparents.

Die große Hoffnung nach mehr gemeinsamer Zeit mit dem Vater galt der Zeit nach dessen Karriereende. Ein Ende, dass Hermann Prey nicht sehen wollte. Und eine Hoffnung, die durch seinen plötzlichen Tod 1998 zerstört wurde. Zehn Jahre nach Hermann Preys Tod sprechen seine Kinder und seine Frau das erste Mal über den großen Verlust, die eigenen Sehnsüchte, die Trauer. Und wie sie gelernt haben zu verstehen, dass Hermann Prey seiner „Berufung Musik“ in solch einer Ausschließlichkeit folgen musste. Der Film zeigt eine letzte Fotosession von Prey in den USA, erstmals auch den letzten TV-Konzertauftritt in Japan 1997 und weltweit exklusive Aufnahmen aus dem privaten Prey-Film- und Fotoarchiv, Auszüge aus seinen Tagebüchern und Terminkalendern.

The children’s hopes for more time with their father had to wait for his career to come to end. Hermann Prey didn’t want his career to end. Those hopes were crushed by his sudden death in 1998. Ten years after the death of Hermann Prey, his wife and children speak for the first time publicly about their great loss, about their own longings and the process of mourning. And about how they have come to terms with the fact that Hermann Prey was compelled to follow his musical calling with such an utterly single-minded focus. The film includes footage of a last photo shoot with Prey in the USA, a worldwide exclusive debut of his last TV concert performance in Japan in 1997, additional worldwide exclusives from private Prey film and photo archives as well as excerpts from private journals and diaries.

In drei Jahren Dreh- und Produktionszeit ist so ein traurig-schöner Film über die Leidenschaft in ihrer ursprünglichen Bedeutung entstanden. Die DVD „Prey- Stille meine Liebe“ ist eine Koproduktion von Vision Factory Medienproduktion GmbH und tryharder tvnetwork. Sie erscheint in deutscher Sprache mit englischen Untertiteln. Neben dem eigentlichen Hauptfilm befinden sich auf der DVD über 60 Minuten Bonustracks mit zusätzlichen, exklusiven Musikstücken und jeweils einer persönlichen Hommage an Hermann Prey von Thomas Hampson, Jonas Kaufmann, Florian Uhlig und anderen. Darüber hinaus gibt es ein 80-seitiges Booklet, das in Photos und Texten die Geschichte des Films erzählt und dokumentiert.
