Financial crisis and solidarity in Europe February 11 – 18, 2012
Sonnenberg Kreis e.V. is looking for one trainer/ expert for economy and the financial crisis who would like to support us in a Dutch-Italian-German youth meeting that will be held in
International House Sonnenberg in National Park Harz in Germany, February 11 -18,
2012.
The seminar
About 70 students (17-19 years old) from schools in Zeist (NL), Roma (IT) and Elmshorn (D)
will spend a week on Sonnenberg, getting to know each other, learning from each other and
working on questions like:
• Which experiences do I have with money and solidarity?
• Financial crisis –What is it all about?
• How are the financial crisis and the questions of solidarity re/presented in the media
of Italy, the Netherlands and Germany?
• How did/ does the crisis influence the life of the people living around us?
• What do the participants think about the crisis and which thoughts and feelings do
they have for the European future?
With the seminar we want to invite the participants to
• share their experiences with money and solidarity
• make up their own opinion about the current situation of the financial crisis
• think about questions of solidarity in times of economic difficulties
• sharpen their eyes for the re/presentation of political matters in the media
• think about their own opinion und feelings about the future of Europe
• learn more about life in Zeist, Roma and Elsmhorn
• have fun in the national park Harz...
The working language of the seminar will be English.
The seminar is funded by the Youth in Action Programme of the
European Union.
The trainer / expert for Economy and the financial crisis we are looking for…
• should be fluent in English. We do not expect native speaker level but very good
language skills. Dutch or Italian knowledge is most welcome…
• should have experience with and passion for the topics Europe/ financial crisis/
economics/ solidarity
• should be a team player
• experience in working with young people/ being a trainer in international youth
meetings is a plus

• experience in participant-orientated methods is a plus
Your role in/for the seminar will be:
• to be a member of a team of three trainers and one seminar assistant
• to have the role of the ‘expert’ on the topic financial crisis in Europe
• to prepare and conduct a workshop (of two hours) on the basis of the financial
crisis
• to attend small working groups and assist in their discussion about topics of the
financial crisis
• to lead (together with the rest of the team) a group work in which the students
do some research by themselves and try to analyse the re/presentation of the
financial crisis and questions of solidarity in example medias which they brought
from their countries
• to lead a workshop that deepens the students’ knowledge on the backgrounds of
the financial cirisis
• to attend the team meetings and be an active part throughout the seminar
What does Sonnenberg offer you?

• a honorarium of 120 Euros per day for 8 days (=960,00 Euros)
• 1 day of preparation (120 Euros)
• a refund of travel costs to the amount of the cheapest adequate way of traveling
• fresh air and very beautiful surroundings in national park Harz – cross country
skiing…

The Sonnenberg-Kreis e. V. is an independent and non-profit making organisation of
international out-of-school education in Europe. In our conference centre, the International
House Sonnenberg, we receive thousands of visitors every year from all over the world, at
events for adults, young people and families.
Conferences focus on human rights, peace, solidarity, social and ecological responsibility… With
the help of public subsidies - although Sonnenberg is politically and ideologically independent -
participants of different national, ethnic-cultural and social origins and of different ideological
background discuss cultural and social issues, the economy and the environment, work and
leisure, present-day political as well as historical questions. Sonnenberg work is characterised
by a great variety of participant-orientated methods.
As a non-profit-making organisation Sonnenberg exclusively pursues educational and cultural
aims. Its activities serve the promotion of international and intercultural understanding.
