1.7 Functional descriptionFLEXORIPPwatermeterpitsareintendedforinstallationinpipetrenches.Theycanbeusedinmanyways,suchasadomesticconnection,constructionsitewaterconnection,inparkareasorallotments,oncampingsitesorincemeteries.Thewatermeterpitiseasytoinstallinapipetrenchwithoutextensiveearthworksbecauseofitssmallsize.Thewatermeterpitisimpermeabletosurfacewater,hygieni-callycleanandenablesthefrost-freeoperationofthewatermetersystemandwatermeter.Itisnotnecessaryorpossibletoenterthewatermeterpit.Therelevantaccidentpreventionregulationsforenteringpitsarethereforenotapplicable.

2. Installation instructions (installation/assembly)2.1 Information about the preparations

CAUTION

Checkthewatermeterpitandwatermeterpitsystemfordamageorcontaminationbeforeuse.Adamagedpitordamagedfittingmustnotbeused.

Thepipeshouldbeflushedbeforeinstallingthewatermeterinthewatermetersystem;anadaptershouldbeusedforthispurpose.



! ThewatermeterpitsystemisfactoryfittedwithaPEadapter.ThePEadapterisonlyusedasasubstituteforthewatermeterandisnotsuitableforoperation.

2.2 Information about the installation site

! Thewatermeterpitshouldbelocatedatanelevatedpositiononthesiteorprotrudeafewcentimetresabovegroundlevelifpossible.Thechoiceofpitsizeshouldbecompatiblewiththefrost-freeinstallationdepth

ofthepipeandisthesoleresponsibilityoftheuser.Thewatermeterpitdemonstratesfavourablebehaviouragainstbuoyancybecauseofitsexternalshape.Anessentialrequirementisthatitisinstalledproperlywithgravelbackfillandcompactioninlayers.Thepitbodyhasawaterproofdesignandtheconnectiontothecoverisimpermeabletosurfacewater.Asoilengineeringspecialistshouldbeconsultedinareaswherethereisariskoftemporaryflooding.

! Shouldtherebeflat-lyingsupplypipes(so-calledsummerpipes)downstreamofthewatermeterpit,whichhavetobeemptiedbeforethestartofthefrostseason,werecommendinstallingaspecialfittinginthepiperoutingbetweenthe

pitexitandthetappingpoint,e.g.anEWEgardenvalveincombinationwithaninstallationset.AnEWEgardenhydrantprovidesthesameconvenienceinthecaseofanoutdoortappingpoint.

! Theemptyingofthedownstreamsupplypipeinthepitbodyrequiresspecialcarefromahygienicpointofview.Thewaterfromthepipemustbepumpedawayimmediatelyduringtheemptyingphaseandthenthedrainopeningmust

beclosedtopreventanypossiblecontaminationinthepipenetwork.

2.3 Excavation and backfillingThewatermeterpitisdeliveredreadyforinstallationandcanbeusedinpreparedditches.Theworkrequiredistheresponsibilityoftheuser.Thedistancestootherundergroundinstallations,suchasbuildings,pipes,cables,mustbeobservedinaccordancewiththeDVGWworksheetW400.TherequirementsofDIN4124mustbeobserved.Possibleearthmovementsasaresultofsubsidence,settlementorsoilpressure,e.g.causedbyslopingsites,mustbetakenintoconsideration.Non-cohesivesoilwithagrainsizeofmax.16mmmustbeusedforthefoundations,beddingandbackfilling.SandSE,SWorSIandgravelGE,GW,GIhaveprovenasuccessinaccordancewithsoilclassificationF1accordingtoDIN18196,whichalsomeettherequirementsforthecompactionclassesandfrostprotection.Thepitmustbefixedinplaceassoonaspossiblebybackfillingthetrench.Otherappropriatemeasuresmustbetakentosecureitagainstfloatingwhilethetrenchisnotcompletelybackfilledtogroundlevel.

3.2 Pit security

CAUTION

Thepitmustnotbeoperatedwithoutapitcoverinaccordancewithsection5.Theinsulatingcoverisnonload-bearing.Theinstallationsiteandpitopeningmustbesecuredagainstunintentional

accessduringtheinstallationperiodandduringoperationofthepit.A15/B125pitcoversmustbelockedwiththeenclosedscrews.

3.3 Frost protection

! Theinsulatingcoverfastenedtotheliftinglinemustbeused.Frostprotectionmustbeensuredthroughthelocalinstallation,inparticularbytherightchoiceofinstallationdepth.

Itisthereforethesoleresponsibilityoftheplanningandcontractingbodytoensurethefrost-freeconditionsinthepipeandpit.

4. Maintenance and servicing

! The(ball)shut-offvalvesinthewatermetersystemsaregenerallydefinedasmaintenancefittings;theyshouldthereforebeactuatedslowlyinthecaseofmaintenance(duringopeningandclosing)whenthetappingdevicesareclosed.

Thefittingsmustbeopenedasfarastheywillgo,i.e.bysettingthemtothefullyopenposition.Itisnotpermittedtorestrictthem.

! Itisrecommendedthattheshut-offvalvesonthewatermetersystemarenormallyactuatedatleastonceayeartoensurethattheyworkandmovefreely.

Asageneralrule,anannualfunctionalcheckshouldbeperformedonthenon-returnflowvalve.Itisnotnecessaryforplug-innon-returnflowvalvestobeinspectedannual-ly.Thesefittingsmustbechangedwiththeregularreplacementofthewatermeter,butwithin10yearsatthelatest(EN806).Thenon-returnflowvalvesarewearparts.Afunctionalcheckcanbecarriedoutonmodelswithacontrolscrewthatarealreadyinstalled.Todothis,theinflowmustbeshutoffandthecontrolscrewopenedwithduecaution.Onlytheremainingwaterbetweentheinflowandhousingmustescape.Mediumfromotherinstallationsmustbeheldbackbythenon-returnflowvalve.Thenon-returnflowvalvemustberepairedifthisisnotthecase.

CAUTION

Thepipesystemmustbeshutoffanddepressurisedbeforestartingtherepairwork.Furthermore,thepipesystemmustbesecuredagainstinadvertentuseagain.
