Breakfast on the MountainWild Water WalkAn assault on the peak including a mountain breakfast or an atmospheric torchlit ramble. The Wilder Kaiser walking guide leads scenic hikes and mountain tours daily from Monday to Friday. Enjoy a stop at one of the many original mountain huts. Discover the Sunnseit path in Söll, the Schnitzfigure trail on the Hartkaiser in Ellmau, the Ellmau Stone Circle or the paths on the Going Moor & more. Join the guided film walk and see some of the locations featured in popular TV shows such as the “Bergdoktor”.
Dawn breakfast on alpine pastures. The early rise is amply rewarded by the first rays of morning sunshine on the Wilder Kaiser peaks along with a delicious breakfast on the “Alm”. There are more than 20 huts in the Wilder Kaiser Region which offer homemade products such as farmer’s bread, but-ter, as well as traditional herb spread, jam, cheese and “Speck”, smoked bacon. A treat for all your senses.
Rehbach Ravine in Scheffau. Scheffau has a wonderful Kneipp Trail, with various stations along the way. It also offers a special crystal clear mountain brook adventure. Small, natural water basins are ideal for a foot bath, and rare plants such as Horsetail can be found here. The narrow trail through the craggy Rehbach Gorge leads past a waterfall and to an old mine. Cross the suspension bridge and visit the picturesque Hinterschießling mountain pasture hut.
A 5 day hiking tour around the Wilder Kaiser. Hike from hut to hut on one of the most beautiful multi-day walking tours in Tyrol. The Emperor’s Crown covers 65 kilometres of paths and 5,000 metres (16,404 ft) altitude difference around the Wilder Kaiser Mountain. Experience the fascination of rocky peaks, cool forests and alpine pastures with breath-tak-ing views. The Emperor’s Crown is easily accessed from all villages, trails are generally open from June to the mid of October.
One of the most historic climbing regions in Austria. Apart from classic Alpine routes, rock climbers can train in any one of the three challenging crags of Achleiten, Multer-karwand and Schleierwasserfall. Join one of our mountain guides on a mountain or climbing tour in the Wilder Kaiser. Certain tours, such as an ascent of the Ellmauer Halt or a crossing of the Wilder Kaiser, are arranged weekly.Tip: pick up a copy of the free rock climbing folder.
Get around the Wilder Kaiser without a car. Travel free around the entire region with the hiking and swimming bus. This service operates from the end of May until the begin-ning of October and runs to all valley lift stations, lakes, baths and villages. Return comfortably to your base. Timetables available at Information Offices in Ellmau, Going, Scheffau and Söll.
Enjoy a round of golf in the Emperor’s most beautiful garden. The 27 hole Wilder Kaiser Golf Course lies directly at the foot of this spectacular mountain range and is one of the most picturesque courses in the Alps. Due to its lovely sunny position, it is generally open for play from April. On the nearby 9 hole Mühlberghof Golf Course, also in Ellmau, club membership is not required. Our partner Golf Hotels are happy to arrange tee-off times. A total of seven golf courses in the vicinity guarantee variety.
The successful Austrian-German TV series „Der Bergdoktor“ – the Mountain Doctor - has been filmed at the Wilder Kaiser since 2007. Also many other film and music programmes have been shot at the beautiful natural stage and movie scenery of this Tyrolean region. On the guided film walk, film fans can visit the most famous locations including the doctor’s practice in Ellmau.
New via Ferrata with spectacular rope bridge. The lower section of the via Ferrata Klamml is of medium difficulty (B/C). The upper section, accessible only by a spectacular double rope bridge, increases the challenge, with a difficulty rating of C/D. The via Ferrata which is directly below the Gruttenhütte can be reached from the Wochenbrunner Alm car park in about an hour. The region’s excellent climbing is rounded off by a practice Ferrata and further via Ferratas.

Cycling at the Wilder KaiserComfortably by electric bike or athletically by moun-tain bike. Ellmau, Going, Scheffau and Söll are part of the „Kitzbüheler Alpen-Kaisergebirge E-Bike Region”, the largest in the world. Guided E-bike tours to locations where the TV series „Der Bergdoktor“ is filmed are popular. There are also many exciting trails and panoramic mountain bike paths at the Wilder Kaiser. Take advantage of the cable cars to make the ascent easier.
Austrian Seal of Quality HikingThe greatest Alpine experience. The Wilder Kaiser Region is the very first Alpine region to be awarded the Austrian Seal of Quality for its hiking facilities. This award takes into account the entire hiking infrastructure at the villages and their accommodations as well as the hiking paths and trails. The region is part of the Kaisergebirge Nature Reserve, which covers 102 km2 and stretches from 480 metres (1,575 ft) above sea level to the top of the Ellmauer Halt, which at 2,344 metres (7,960 ft), is the highest peak in the Wilder Kaiser. .
Each week, young climbers can learn to climb under the supervision of qualified mountain guides on the rockfaces by the Gaudeamushütte. Adventurous parents are also welcome!

All senses are aroused at the 60 fun-filled water stations situated along Austria’s longest barefoot trail. Exciting activities await in the witches‘ workshop, the fireplace and at the jumping water. Experience the inside of a bee hive and visit the 400 year old Simonalm, where farmer Maria shows you how to make traditional „Brodakrapfen“ doughnuts and gives you a taste!
A unique moor experience in the Wilder Kaiser. Experi-ence untouched nature and discover rare flora and fauna on the moors in the Kaisergebirge Nature Reserve. Wander the botanic theme trail at your own pace or join a guided walk on the moor. There are also two walking trails on the Kaiser-moor in Going, the „Rocky Runde“ and the „Törfchenrunde“, which are ideal for kids and teens.
The Children Kingdom on Brandstadl. A playful Emperor invites young folk to his fortress and to the adventure forest in the KaiserWelt. Here you can run and play to your heart’s desire! Follow the trail through the heart of the KaiserWelt, marvel at the views from the tree houses and enjoy tinkering in the handicraft workshop. You can even sail on an Alpine lake – the captain awaits you with his boat at Lake Jochberg-stub’n.
Experience nature through play. Discover the excitement of nature in the six adventure worlds found in the Wilder Kaiser Region – Ellmi‘s Magic World, KaiserWelt Scheffau, Hexenwasser Söll, Hohe Salve, Alpinolino, Lake Filzalmsee – some are situated around the Hohe Salve giving you some of the finest panoramic views in Tyrol. From the 1,829 metre (6,001 ft) summit see more than 70 spectacular peaks reach-ing over 3,000 metres (9,843 ft) The 360° rotating panorama terrace is a particular highlight. The free mountain theme parks are open from May until October and may be reached on foot or by cable car. They are all connected by a panoramic walking trail.
Tip: Use 29 mountain lifts and obtain up to a 50 % reduction on entrances to baths, muse-ums etc. with the Kitzbüheler Alpen Summer Card.
Most beautiful natural bathing lake in Tyrol. Close to the forest, with panoramic views of the mountains, this lake is fed by springs in the Wilder Kaiser. Along the bathing lido with children and non-swimmers’ area, the water temperature reaches 24°C (75° F). Long extra wide slides promise bathing fun. On land there is a play area with a beach volleyball court and large sun-bathing lawn.
Purest and most beautiful Alpine lake in Tyrol. With its turquoise blue water mirroring the craggy peaks of the Wild-er Kaiser Mountains, the lake is concealed above the village of Scheffau. Relax on the bathing lido with its café or take a re-freshing dip in the crystal clear water. The Lake Hintersteiner See is an ideal point to start and finish hikes and mountain tours on the south west face of the Wilder Kaiser Mountain.
Refreshingly different. Enjoy spectacular views of the mountain peaks whilst relaxing in the outdoor warm water pool. The popular and expansive aquatic centre has an adventure swimming pool, outdoor pool with water cannons, long water slides and a high diving board. Relax in the herbal steam-bath, take a deep breath in the eucalyptus grotto or enjoy the Tyrolean lodge sauna.
New refreshment in the village. Visit Söll’s bathing lake! The 11 metre deep Lake Ahornsee with its „blob“ diving tower ensures holidaymakers and locals are kept cool and having great fun. The lake has a surface area of over 10,000 m² and feeds the snowmaking facilities at the middle station in winter. After a day at the lake, enjoy a drink on the café’s sun terrace.
Local customs and old crafts at the church square. With its Baroque church, the village square in Going is one of the most beautiful in Tyrol and farming traditions are alive and thriving here. On five Friday summer evenings it serves as the perfect backdrop for a Handicraft Market, where almost forgotten traditions are kept alive. Try local specialities and enjoy some folk music and dance.
The enchanted forest of the bewitched frog. On the Ell-mau Hartkaiser mystical paths lead you on the tracks of Ellmi, the magician’s apprentice who was turned into a frog. To free him, children must find his wand with a treasure card and will experience some adventures along the way. Adults enjoy the herbal paths and discover alpine plants and a magical scenery.
Free Kids‘ ProgrammeProfessional – creative – close to nature. The Wilder Kaiser Region is a member of the Tyrolean „Family Nest“ group committed to offering particularly family-friendly accommodations, with qualified childcare combined with a varied family summer programme. Panning for gold in the wild brook, llama trekking, discovering the moors plus many more adventures on mountains, forests, fields and farms are planned daily from Monday to Friday.
Weekly Village EveningsEnjoy true Tyrolean culture with musical and culinary highlights. The weekly summer evening events at the Wilder Kaiser are tradition. Wander through the street stalls in Ellmau each Tuesday enjoying live music. Be entertained by „Schuhplattler“ thigh slapping at the „Z’sammkemma“ in Söll, held each Wednesday and take in a concert by the local brass band in Scheffau on Thursday. NEW: “Going Live”–Summer Kaiser Evening outdoor concert or theatre each Wednesday evening, excluding handicraft market weeks.

„Kinder-Kornkammer Söll“ is a real paradise for all the little ones! The Granary from past times, is located directly at the bottom station of the gondola and has been converted into a children‘s area of a very special kind. Kids and teenag-ers will experience “farming and organic food production” in a playful way. Besides there is a lot to discover in connection with the Hexenwasser. “Exploring the ALM”, “cooking tradi-tionally”, “animal caring”, “amazing water”.
