3rd Person Limited Narrator is not apart of the story but knows the thoughts and feelings of ONE character.

Amber and Jarik were siting in class. Jarik was frustrated because he was ready to be done with school for Christmas break. He looked over at Amber. He was wondering how she felt about being in school. He wondered if she was as ready as he was for the break.

3rd Person Omniscient Narrator is not apart of the story but knows the thoughts and feelings of ALL characters.

Amber and Jarik were sitting in class. Jarik was frustrated because he was ready to be done with school for Christmas break. Amber was ready for Christmas too, but she was amused by the funny video that she was watching at the front of the room.

1. They went to the story to buy some milk. John saw some candy that he wanted, but Mary didn’t want to buy him any. John was really upset.

You went to have the hold in your tire fixed. You had to wait a long time. After several hours, you were able to drive home.

I went to school and had to take a test. I was very nervous, because it was in Math. Math is my worst subject.

Semaj was upset that he didn’t have any chocolate milk in his lunch box. Sarah was sitting next to Semaj and felt bad for him. She had an extra milk. She asked Semaj if he would like to have it. Semaj was so happy and Sarah was very proud of herself for sharing.

Sub-PlotWhat is it? Examples

Sub-Plot A sub-plot is a 2nd story line within a main story.

In Holes, Stanley’s life was the main story. When the writer told Kissin’ Kate Barlow’s and Sam’s story, that was a 2nd story-line within the book. We needed to know it to understand why Stanley was digging holes for treasure, but it is not the main story line.

Theme Theme is the “big idea” of the text. It is the message that the author is trying to tell in the text.

It will NOT be directly stated.

Ask yourself these questions to help figure out the theme (message that the author wants you to know).

*Did the main character change during the story? If so, what did they learn?

Test Taking Tips

Everyone is different when it comes to taking tests. Some people like to read the questions before they read the story. Some people just like to start reading the story and will get to the

questions later. Some people just go to the end of the test and work backwards.

Good Test Rules Make notes while you read…

Highlight, Underline, Question Marks, Exclamation Points It will help you remember what you have read

You can also take notes over the questions themselves. Highlight Key Words

Mark out the answers that you know do not work You will usually be left with two Go back to the text If you don’t know, skip it, and come back to it later. NEVER leave it blank when you turn it in.

Test Taking Tips

You will write an essay on this Benchmark… Do the multiple choice questions first and then write your essay. Do not panic about time.

I believe that each of your are going to do great!!! I will be with you on Monday, but you will be working on the Semester Benchmark the entire class. Use all of your time to make sure your answers are correct and that your essay is the best that it can be.

This test is going to be apart of your SEMESTER Grade. Very Important!
