Sultanat Oman, arabisch ist ein Staat im Osten der ,سلطنة عمانArabischen Halbinsel. Die etwa vier Millionen Einwohner leben vorwiegend in Städten. Etwa 75 % der Bevölkerung sind Ibaditen. Das Sultanat ist eine absolute Monarchie und besitzt gleichzeitig eine Verfassung. Die vom Sultan ernannten Minister und die zwei nationalen Parlamente haben nur beratende Funktion.Das Land wird seit 1970 vom absolutistischen Herrscher Sultan Qabus regiert. Seit Ende Februar 2011 kam es in der nordomanischen Hafenstadt Suhar, der Hauptstadt Maskat und im Süden des Landes immer wieder zu Protesten.
