react ion takes place smooth ly in bo th acetonitri le medium and acetic acid medium as well as in the mix ture of two solvents. Acetonitri le has been found to be the sa t is factory solvent for a m m o n i u m ni t ra to cerate as the solubil i ty of the lat ter is more and the solution keeps its s t rength for a longer period of t ime in this solvent. The solubil i ty o f ammonium ni t ra to cerate in acetic acid is ve ry l imited and even such dilute solutions do no t keep well even for a d a y : .
Other indicators like Phenosafranine and Neut ra l Red, whose transi- t ion potentials are repor ted to be in the vicini ty of t ha t of Janus Green were tr ied in this t i t ra t ion wi thout success. Fur the r work is in progress.

Amperometric Determination of Cobalt as Tellurite By
G. S. ])ESHMUKII~ Vo ])o ANAND and A. JOSEPH
With 4 Figures in $he Text
(Received November 18, 1960)
Amperometric determination of cobalt has not received much atten- tion. Of the few references available in li terature the earliest reference is to the use of ~-nitroso-fl-naphthol, the most common precipitant for cobalt (by KOLTI~OFF and LANGUId1~ Potassium fcrricyanide was used in the amperometric t i t rat ion of cobalt by ]5~ALVODA and Z:~I(A', and t t v ~ and KOLTI~OFF 7. Anthranilic acid was employed by ZDA~OV and coworkers ~a,24. Isonitroso-2-naphthytamine was found to give good results in the amperometric t i trations of cobalt by OKJ~C and Gl~s163 is who employed acetic acid-sodium acetate buffers, while SucH~ 2~ used pyri- dine-ammonium thiocyanate. Potassium mercury tetra thiocyanate was used as a reagent by C~IAD~jwv and MllZBADALEVA 4. Cyclohexane dione dioxime (nioxime) has been utilized by CALZOLAIr and ~UI~LANI 3 and ISI~IBASI~r et ~l. s. The ehelatometrie agent EDTA (disodium salt of ethy- ]enediamine teLraeetic acid) has also been employed recently by Us_*- TEMPO and VITI~I~A 2~, while SAI~ASWA~ 19 has t i t ra ted cobalt with po- tassium ferroeyanide. Indirectly cobalt has been t i t ra tcd amperometri- cally as the hexamine cobal t ( I I I ) chloride with sulphate, pyrophosphate and ferrocyanide by LAITI~X and BUI~D~TT 12. A review on the applica- tion of amperometrie technique to the determination of different metals has recently been contributed by Bozs~I ~. Amperometry of cobalt has also been reviewed therein.
The precipitation of cobalt as the normal tellurite reported by Ln~HE~ and WoL~SKY ~ has been made the basis of gravitigrimetriel, conducto- metric and pH ti trat ion ~ procedures recently. A confirmation of the results already obtained was sought through the application of the ampero- metric technique to determination of cobalt as tellurite.
