7
Knowledge Vision
Knowledge Vision
• - Essential Questioning: “What do we exist for?” • “Where should we live?” (Existence and Domain)• “Why do we create knowledge?”•A vision that transcends the existing boundary. A vision that can be accepted by and can inspire the people with various contexts.
• -Gives the firm an absolute, not a relative, value system.• “You do it because you want to do it, not because • everyone else is doing it.”• -A long-time view that goes beyond the arena of • competition. It is not a short-time view on efficiency in• knowledge utilization.

The idea
One of the key success factors to ensure sustainability for any company is the ability to continuously create new knowledge
One of the most important requirements for successful continuous knowledge creation is the existence of a corporate knowledge vision
… we need a method for a
knowledge-based vision development
Vikobama®

Vikobama®
(Vision development and knowledge-based management)
… is a process model for developing a knowledge-based vision in a company
… integrates the individual visions of the employees into the overall vision of the company
… is the implementation of a radical bottom-up approach on the collective level
… gives a special attention to the creation of self-transcending knowledge
… supports a “learning from the future” approach… supports the transformation from implicit knowledge
to explicit knowledge… supports the sharing of knowledge within a company
(system)

Self-transcending knowledge
A knowledge vision is a vision that transcends the existing boundary

Wissensschaffung im Unternehmen

Lernen
Wie lernen wir? Wie lernen unsere Unternehmen und
Organisationen?

Self-transcending knowledge
Handlungen undEntscheidungen in
der Gegenwart
über mich selbst über mich selbst hinauswachsen …hinauswachsen …
15
19
Was ist erforderlich?
Erforderlich sind “Räume” (jap. Ba), in denen

®
wird eine neue Ba-Form, der „Vocation-ba“ eingeführt
23
The three steps of Vikobama®
Personal vision of each employee
Personal system vision of each employee
Overall vision of the company
bottom
up
… the personal vision is alwaysconnected with an individualsense of why he is alive
… the personal system vision isstrongly connected with the personal vision
24
BerufungscoachingWaVe®
25
Vocation-Coaching at the individual level
Main aspects Discovering the personal vocation and
formulating the substantial needs Detecting the personal resources (strengths,
talents/gifts, capabilities, charismas) Formulating one or more personal visions

Vocation-Coaching and phronesis
Vocation phronesis
making decisions • value judgment• ability to determine and undertake the best action in a specific situation to serve the common good• ability to make value judgments in each situation to realize its vision of the future
• substantial needs• the systems I am living in• my place in the world• ability to envision my future
The basis of value-judgments
is the vocation
hypothesis / idea:
28
Three basic questions
1. What do I need for a fulfilling life and a fulfilling work? what are my substantial needs?
2. What do I want and what do I wish for my future and the future of my company? what are my deepest wishes and what’s attractive to me?
3. What are my resources? What are my strengths?

To sum up …
Vikobama® is a process method of knowledge-based vision development, that provides an
enabling space for both: … generating a vision for the company on
the one hand … creating, converting and distributing
knowledge during the process on the other hand it provides an intrinsically motivated and

Results in the context of knowledge-based management
Transcending the own boundaries by detecting the vocation and the substantial needs in context of a fulfilling and meaningful life
So it is possible to access “new knowledge”, phronesis or self-transcending knowledge
The ability to formulate personal visions on the basis of the own vocation. This ability enables the client to learn and act from the future as it emerges.
Generation of explicit knowledge of one’s own substantial needs in the context of a fulfilling life and fulfilling work
41
Results in the context of knowledge-based management
A better utilization of intuition in every day life and a knowledge of how to become aware of one’s own intuition
A better utilization of implicit and tacit knowledge in every day life
42
Results in the context of knowledge-based management
Conversion of implicit knowledge about my talents/resources/charisms/strengths into explicit knowledge
Internalization of explicit knowledge over time, and therefore making it implicit on a higher level
43
Results in the context of knowledge-based management
all outputs mentioned in the description of vocation-coaching at the individual level
additionally: knowledge sharing and knowledge distribution of
explicit knowledge within the workshops with all employees
knowledge transfer and knowledge distribution of implicit and tacit knowledge within the workshops with all employees
making aware of the group tacit knowledge of the company and making use of this knowledge
44
Results in the context of knowledge-based management
The company as a system gets the ability to learn and act from the future as it emerges.
Therefore it is possible to access new knowledge (phronesis, wisdom, self-transcending knowledge) on a group level (collective wisdom).
Generally speaking within this process the vocation of the company can be discovered.
45
Results in the context of knowledge-based management
The vision process held at SERI not only contributed significantly to the re-definition of the mission statement of the company, but also to private and professional (new)-orientation of all employees. Therefore the staff observed an increasing corporate feeling within the company.
The satisfaction of employees and entrepreneurs, improving communication within the company, and a general increase in productivity were the encouraging results of the specific process.
46
Learning organization
The system (company) is learning:
It is a process of learning from the vocation / vision / resources of the employees
Learning from the future
