Agenda 16 november 2015 BNC clubbottelingen deel 1
13 december 2015 JUBILEUMFEEST
12/13 februari 2016 Hielander Whisky Festival
De afgelopen jaren hebben we als club al een aardig aantal
clubbottelingen uitgebracht. Uiteraard heeft de club zelf ook flessen
gekocht om in een later stadium te gebruiken voor een proeverij. We
hebben inmiddels genoeg om 2 proeverijen te vullen waarvan deel 2
volgend jaar zal plaats vinden.
maken. Een feest dat je niet mag
missen!
Adelphi Private Stock Blend
afdronk.
Fascadale Batch 9
This Adelphi Fascadale 14 Years
Old Batch 9 is from Ardmore
distillery. It is a release of 1433
bottles.
46.0% vol.
De whisky Fascadale is vernoemd
naar het plaatsje Fascadale,
gelegen op de noord-west punt
van het eiland Ardnamurchan.
Ardnamurchan is een lang, smal
schiereiland langs de oevers van
Loch Sunart en markeert het het
meest westelijke puntje van het
Britse vasteland. De naam is
afgeleid van het Ierse A
'Mhorbhairn, wat Sea-Gap
betekent.
A fireside dessert: chocolate coated orange peel, vanilla ice cream,
strawberry jelly and salty Dutch liquorice. A dusty wicker basket of wet,
sweet peat by a smouldering fire.
Liddesdale Batch 9 This Adelphi Liddesdale 21 Years
Old Batch 9 is from Bunnahabhain
distillery. It is a release of 1342
bottles.
46.0% vol.
De whisky is vernoemd naar
beroemde plekken op de
Ardnamurchan en Morvern
schiereilanden waar Adelphi haar
“roots” heeft. Liddesdale 18 jaar
oude Islay single malt whisky is
vernoemd naar beroemde
bezienswaardigheden op de
Ardnamurchan en Morvern
schiereilanden, de thuisbasis van
de eigenaren van Adelphi.
Liddesdale Brae gelegen op de
zuidelijke oever van Loch Sunart, is
doordrenkt van folklore.
Sommigen spreken van de “Devil’s Acre” where the old widow “sell’d her
coo to the De’il”; nothing grows there. Others whisper of the “Fairie
Knoll”, protected for all time by the “Deaf Shepherd” looking down from
the skyline.
A fine start to the day; syrup-coated Golden Grahams and pink grapefruit.
Cinnamon and cloves on sugary brioche, slightly charred tarte tatin and a
drop of cream.
Ben Nevis 1996
18 year old Highland.
1 of only 576 bottles from cask no. 1146.
54.3% vol.
From a refill Spanish oak, ex-
Sherry butt, this is both
amber and topaz in colour.
Nose: initially quite dry on the nose (Spanish oak influence), this is
immediately replaced with a freshly opened jar of apricot jam, quite
marmalade-like now with even more jammy notes, apricot, mango and a
hint of orange peel. Star anise appears with honey menthol cough sweets
and flaked almonds.
Palate: on the palate, stocky toffee pudding, more almonds, milk
chocolate, and now lime marmalade.
Finish: sweet jams continue in the finish with just a hint of the 18 years
spent in oak.
Pauze
Longmorn 1992 23 year old Speyside.
1 of only 255 bottles from
cask no. 48512.
54.4% vol.
From an active refill
American oak ex-Sherry
hogshead, this is deep
amber (almost “Irn Bru”
like), with excellent beading
suggesting a rich mouth
texture.
Nose: butterscotch, Werther’s Originals, Crunchie bars and glacé cherries.
The sherry notes begin to appear, then sweetie shops with macaroons and
toffee rum and raisin ice cream.
Taste: Initially quite tart to taste, very quickly becoming both sweet and
spicy: liquorice, caramelised burnt sugar, tarte tatin, Sbrisolona (crumbly
Italian nut cake) and a bag of almonds. Bitter cherries and bread and
butter pudding also in the development, with spiced rum, ginger powder,
baked apples and bitter chocolate.
Finish: A mellow finish of soft chocolate and the slightest hint of Hoi Sin.
Bowmore 1996 19 year old Islay.
1 of only 304 bottles from
cask no. 960033.
59.1% vol.
From a refill ex-Sherry
hogshead, this is the full
gold with amber lights.
This Adelphi Bowmore was
distilled in 1996 and bottled
in 2015 from a refill ex-
sherry hogshead.
Nose: Immediate charred sticks with recently extinguished barbeque and
leafy bonfires, this is quite nose-drying with traces of hemp rope and
hessian. The smoke becomes more fragrant with time, and blossom notes
appear, with salted rum and raisin, raspberry vinegar and roasted salty
walnuts.
Palate: The taste mirrors the nose - immediately ashy and smoky,
becoming more gentle with a lovely fruity sweetness, just a hint of the sea
and cherries on an open fire.
Finish: The finish is long and warming, plenty of lingering smoke from a
steam engine.
Coal Ila 2003 12 year old Islay, 1 of only
285 bottles from cask no.
301266
58.1% vol
From a refill Spanish oak,
ex-Sherry hogshead, with a
surprisingly good bead for a
relatively young whisky,
this is the colour of aged
Semillon.
Nose: definitely Caol Ila: footbaths and carbolic soap, coal tar, smoked
cheddar, spearmint and industrial cleaner; then the sweet notes arrive
with Garibaldi biscuits, and extra icing sugar. Smokey bacon is also in
evidence.
Palate: the smokey bacon is now coated in chocolate, with coal ash,
cocoa, seaside fire embers, and a decent kick of chilli pepper. The
maritime notes increase, becoming almost edible with Nori seaweed.
Finish: bags of sweet smoke in the long finish, with dark chocolate and
cherries and plenty of bonfires. Powerful stuff!
