Ab 1918 kam die Lok als CSD U 37007 zur tschechischen Staatsbahn. 1939 gelangte sie im Rahmen der politischen Verande- rungen als DRG 99791 unter deut- sche Verwaltung, die sie auf der Schmalspurstrecke Hetzdorf- GroBwaltersdorf einsetzte. Nach FliegerbeschuB befand sie sich 1945 im DR-Ausbesserungs- werk Chemnitz. Von dort Ober- stellte man sie zu ihrem letzten Einsatz auf der Prignitzer Kreis- Kleinbahn. Nach der Privatbahnenteignung in der DDR wurde sie in 994712 um- gezeichnel. Die Lok wurde am 15.11.65 ausgemustert, womit der denkwOrdige Einsatz einer Lok di- ser berOhmten 6sterreichischen Loktype in Deutschland endete.

The Prototype:In 1899, the locomotive makerKrauss of Linz, Austria deliveredone of its famous U series steamlocomotives, No. 4182, to theFriedlander Regional Railway(FBB), which was then located inthe Austrian-German border area.It operated as FBB 1 »Ehrlich«. In1918, the locomotive became CSDU 37007 of the CzechoslovakianNational Railway. Around 1939,the locomotive became the Deut­sche Reichsbahn's No. 99791 andwas deployed on the Hetzdorf­Grosswaltersdorf narrow gaugeline.The loco was damaged during anair raid, and in 1945, it was taken in1945 to the DR repair shop inChemnitz. From there it was usedby the Prignitz regional narrowgauge railway. After expropriationof the private railways in EastGermany, it was renamed toDR 994712, and finally, it wastaken out of service on November15, 1965. That ended the memora­ble history of this famous Austrianlocomotive in Germany.

Illumination:At the front are two working lan­terns. These lanterns automati­cally turn off when the locomotive

is run in reverse. Now two rear lan­terns are illuminated. To changethe bulbs, the lamp rings and glas­ses should be removed. The blownbulb can be removed either withthe fingers or with a pair ot tweez­ers. The driver's cab bulb can beremoved by pushing a pair oftweezers through the driver's cabdoor. An electronic voltagestabilizer circuit helps to keep asteady light in the lanterns fromvery low speeds to high speeds.Lighting sockets are mounted atthe rear of the driver's cab. Thesesockets can be used to power LGBelectrical accessories such as the"Sound of Steam" Boxcar LGBNo. 41351 or Interior Lighting SetsLGB No. 68330 (3030).Drive Mechanism:This model is powered by a seven­pole BOhler motor. Three axles arepowered. One wheel is equippedwith a traction tyre.

Smoke Generator:Enclosed with the locomotive is asmall supply of smoke fluid, whichallows you to run your locomotivewith "steam". The smokestackshould only be filled halfway withsmoke fluid. This allows the smokegenerator to develop sufficientheat to evaporate the smoke fluid.The smoke is harmless and safe.The smokestack can be easily re­filled with the LGB Smoke Fluid(Nr. 50010). Because of the vol­tage stabilizer, running your en­gine without smoke fluid will notdamage the smoke generator.Attention: Do not touch the firetube as it can be broken very eas­ily.

Replacing of a defectivesmoke generator:To change the smoke generator,carefully lift out the safety cover ofthe smoke stack with a small leverto avoid damage. After that, thesmoke generator should be pulledout carefully with needle-nosedpliers by grasping the center heat­ing pipe.The wires to the old generatorshould be cut and reconnected tothe replacement generator accord­ing to illustration 4. Do not forget tdreplace the safety cover.

Methods of operation:You can choose how to operateyour engine by using the three-wayswitch in the engineer's cab:

Cleaning:Dirty locomotives can be cleanedusing detergent and water.

Lubrication:The axles should be occasionallylubricated from with a drop of LGBMaintenance Oil (Nr. 51021). Noother lubrication is necessary.

Motor replacement:This should only be carried out in aspecialist workshop. Should youhowever decide to do this, natur­ally at your own risk, you shouldtake care to ensure that when theconnecting rods are replaced ontothe wheel pivots that the wheels donot jam when rotated. Badly fittedconnecting rods lead to unsatisfac­tory locomotive driving charac­teristics and can also lead to pre­mature gearbox faults.Should the motor and/or warm andspur gears be replaced the theseshould be subsequently greasedwith LGB-Gearbox grease 51020.

Replacing the wheel sets,power pick-Up shoes andcommutator brushes (Fig. 5):The chassis bottom can be liftedoff after removing five screws.After unscrewing the couplingshaft screws, the wheel sets,power pick-up shoes and com­mutator brushes can be replaced.When the wheels are replaced, thegears and axle bearings must beadequately lubricated with LGBGraphite Lubricant (51020).

During assembly when the cou­pling rod is screwed into thepivot, it is vitally important tomake sure that the coupling roddoes not clamp at any wheel pos­ition. This would otherwise inevit­ably cause poor driving qualityand may even destroy the gear.

Power supply:LGB locomotives should only be op­erated with LGB transformers and

power packs. For this model, werecommend an LGB power supplywith power output of 1 amp or more,for example, the 50000 power packor the 50060 transformer and 50070speed control combination. Use theLGB JUMBO power pack (50100/50101) for best performance.This one however, must not beused outdoors.
