1887 - 2016 Celebrating 129 Years
Leading More & More People
to a Life Changing Connection with Jesus Christ
December 15, 2016 VOLUME XLV NUMBER 22
Come to Bethlehem and See A Christmas Program
at Hickory Valley Christian Church
December 16, 17, 18 every half hour from
6:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Walk through Bethlehem and experience Jesus’ birth and
His purpose
The Christmas season is definitely upon us for sure! And it seemed to come up so fast. Just the other day most of us were still mowing our lawns, cooking out on the grill, and doing all those things we love to do outdoors. But now in
what seems to be a very short time, it has gotten colder, the leaves are falling, the skies are gray, and decorations for Christmas are everywhere! And of course this is an extremely busy time of year for a lot of us. We are getting ready for ‘Come to Bethlehem and See’ (December 16, 17, 18 ) which will take a lot of effort on the part of a lot of volunteers. Many of our folks have stepped forward to help Robin Gobble, who is overseeing this year’s presentation. This was a great event last year and we are hoping and praying that the Lord will send even more people this year and that the weather will be just right. We want to be gracious hosts as well, so we will need a large amount of refreshments in the form of cookies and beverages as well as people to help serve them. You have risen to the occasion and stepped forward in the past and we are trusting that many of you will rise up to volunteer wherever needed. If you have checked your calendar, you are no doubt aware that Christmas Day falls on Sunday this year. Our plan is to have our traditional Christmas Eve service on Saturday night, December 24, at 7:00 p.m. and an identical worship service on Sunday morning at 10:15 a.m. Both services will include the familiar worship songs and carols of Christmas, communion, offering, and message. Childcare will be limited to nursery only. We are providing an option for our church family; you can choose to come to the Christmas Eve service or Sunday morning worship, or if you would like to, attend both! Christmas is about worship; giving glory, honor, praise, and thanksgiving to our Lord for the wonderful gift God has given. We are looking forward to a special time together as we gather to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior. Our recent trip to Black River Jamaica was a great experience for me. I was honored to be asked to speak there on Sunday, and it was truly a humbling moment to stand before a church filled to over-flowing with people from all over Jamaica who came to worship our Lord. And worship they did! I know it is a different culture, yet I

could not help but wish we could have some of that same joy, excitement, and freedom as we gather each Lord’s Day. They sang loud and with such passion and joy. I’m so proud to be a part of HVCC, where missions are a definite priority. I was happy to see Truman and Ruth Atkins, as well as Dale Kendle, given plaques and being recognized for the years of service and effort given to the church in Black River. There are others in our church, Don & Molly Hopkins and others who go every year during the summer to help the church there in its outreach to that community. We are all brothers in Christ and serving our Lord together doing our best to reach out to those wherever we live, with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Yes, it is the Christmas season. It is crazy busy and my prayer is that you will enjoy it, cherish it, and always keep the true meaning of this season a priority. Have a Merry and Blessed Christmas. I love you all,
Gary
