40th International Annual Conference of ICT June 23 - June 26, 2009
KarlsruheFederal Republic of Germany
EnergeticMaterials Characterisation,Modelling and Validation
Karlsruhe City PlanHow to find the venue
Karlsruhe is located 120 km south of Frankfurt (Main)/Frankfurt Inter -national Airport just beside the Autobahn A5 and also connected toFrankfurt via Express train »Intercity« or ICE.
Additional airports are:Strasbourg (F) (approx. 100 km) and Stuttgart (D) (approx. 90 km)
Energetic Materials - Characterisation, Modelling and Validation
Due to new and changing applications modernenergetic materials and compositions have to fulfil sophisticated and even opposite featuresregarding to performance, sensitivity, vulnerabilityand stability. Therefore, the validation of the resulting reaction properties needs new or refineddiagnostic methods.
Advanced experimental characterisation of com -bustion, deflagration or detonation properties ofpropellants, explosives, pyrotechnics and their com-binations deliver the basis for understanding thereaction processes and the overall performance.Besides high time resolution diagnostic tools alsoneed a fine spatial accuracy so that spherical oreven volumetric information of the reaction zonecan be achieved essential to understand the com-plex physical and chemical inter actions.
Sophisticated experimental designs and measure-ment techniques must be combined to extract thenecessary information from the system. Modellingof combustion, detonation and reaction pheno -mena helps to understand the occurring effects and to analyse the experimental data.
Finally, the combination of all these tools allows thevalidation of the proposed characteristics of moderndesigned energetic materials.
The 40th International Annual Conference of ICTshall provide a platform to review the state of theart of nowadays energetic material research con -cerning characterisation, modelling and validationand act as an international forum to present newideas and to stimulate the scientific discussion pro-cess in the defence research community.
