Rose Bowl Staircase SurveyInvolved undertaking a survey of the staircase of the Leeds Beck-ett Rose Bowl to gain a broader understanding of survey require-ments, from construction to spe-cific fixtures and fittings. I gained an insight into how different ma-terials work both in construction and design. Invaluable software skills were learned and developed which can now be applied to all projects.

‘skinny house’ installation This project investigated innova-tive ways of creating a sequence of spaces through an ‘off plan’ project, through the development of an installation in the form of a staircase. The project developed my knowledge in client research, conceptual spatial form gener-ation, 3D model making using AutoCAD and laser cutting tech-niques to form the final model.

Edinburgh fringe venueThis project involved investigat-ing re-purposing and re-mod-elling an existing building to fit a specific performance and re-sponding to parameters estab-lished in a comprehensive design report. The practical design work included utilising 3D workshop facilities to create a beautiful component that responded aes-thetically to the contents of the project.

In this project, I created a space for Aerial Silk performance (where acrobatics are performed using strength and agility sus-pended on fabric).

I turned the conceptual photographs into 3D work using resin and pigment, set in clear cubic forms and then polished and sanded to create the desired effect.

Reflected seating and table area creates rectangular inky lighting on the ceil-ing to set the atmosphere in the bar.

Final model of scheme. Inky glass was made using clear perspex sheets that I set pigment into and cut to build the cubes.

Bar details at 1:20, 1:50 and 1:100.

I built moulds at the appropriate sizes for each scale and again set resin and pigment into these. I wanted there to be a relationship with the existing building (a listed building in Edinburgh made of polished stone and concrete), so set plaster underneath in a more ‘broken away’ fashion to show the contrast of old and new.
