Ob nun von echtem Interesse für den Kunden, oder nicht: Moog Music überrascht mit der Neu-Auflage deslegendären Moog Modularsystems von Keith Emerson. Die Herstellung des aus 80 Modulen bestehenden Systemswird liebevoll als Nachbau des Originals von 1969 „mit traditionellen Verkabelungsmethoden“ beschrieben:
„The new Emerson Moog Modular System is comprised of handcrafted Moog modules built from the original circuitdesigns and are true recreations of the originals, utilizing the same hand assembly methods used in the Moog Musicfactory in Trumansburg, NY in 1969. The modules in the new Emerson Moog Modular System are built just as theoriginals were, by hand-stuffing and hand-soldering components to circuit boards, and using traditional wiringmethods.“ (Moog Music)
Wie dem auch sei: Bei genauerer Betrachtung des System fällt auf, dass es – ungeachtet seiner Größe – nur 5 (reine)Audio-VCOs beherbergt. Da wäre ein 3 VCO-Paket (mit 3 Osc Control.) und ein 2 VCO-Paket (mit 1 Osc Control.).Zusätzlich gibt es noch zwei große 921 VCOs, die vornehmlich zu Modulationszwecken gedacht sind. Die Gesamtzahlder VCOs entspricht also der eines Moog System 55: 7 VCOs.

Dieser Gedanke führt uns zum Preis des neuen Emerson Moog Modular Systems. Der im Internet kursierende Betragbeläuft sich auf 80 000 USD. Ob der Nachbau eines 7 VCO-Systems ohne MIDI und anderen Annehmlichkeiten nundiesen Betrag wert ist, das sei – höflich gesagt – zu bezweifeln. Doch wieder einmal macht es deutlich, wovon dasUnternehmen Moog Music tatsächlich lebt: Von seinem Namen.

Schließlich steht noch die Frage im Raum, ob mit dem PR-Projekt des neuen Emerson Moog Modular Systems einegänzliche Neu-Auflage von Modularsystemen im Sortiment von Moog Music einläutet … wir sind gespannt!
