Aus der Uebereinstimmung der beiden Verbesserungen der Ephemeriden sol1 indessen kein Schluss gezogen werden, weder auf die Richtigkeit der Bahnelemente noch auf die Genauigkeit der photographischen Methode. Um einen solchen Schluss zu rechtfertigen mllssten die verglichenen Rectascensionen sowohl der Epherneriden wie der Beob- achtungen absolute sein, und weiter mussten dieselben einen Zeitraum von weit mehr als zwei Jahren umfassen.

Cable messages from London appeared in the Colonial newspapers to the effect that a Comet had been discovered in the constellation Andromeda and that it would be within a million of miles of the earth on November 27.*) Thinking it might be a fragment of the lost Comet of Biela I forth- with commenced observations of it and continued them till

low, very much diffused and without any central conden- sation it was impossible to observe it with satisfaction and I therefore expect the observation-errors will be large. The positions sent herewith were obtained with a square bar micrometer on the 41/2 inch equatorial. After the with- drawal of the moon the Comet was seen again on Dec. 7 .

moonlight and cloudy weather intervened. The Comet being I and 8, but it was then of the last degree of faintness.
