EASTER ndash CHRIST IS RISEN TRULY HE IS RISEN
Early on Easter morning the faithful arrive at the church for Resurrection Service Before the service begins the whole congregation members carrying the crucifix and the banners along with the priest and altar boys take part in a procession similar to the one on Good Friday with the Plaschenytsia being carried three times around the church until the procession stops in front of the closed church doors The priest begins singing the triumphant Easter song ldquoKhrystos Voskres (Christ is Risen)rdquo and then the whole congregation repeats the hymn The priest opens the doors to the church and all now singing ldquoKhrystos Voskresrdquo for a third time the faithful go inside and then the Easter Service begins This procession is to remind us of the journey of the women who came on Easter morning to anoint the body of Christ at His Tomb the closed doors symbolize the impossibility of entering the Kingdom of God before the Resurrection of our Saviour Jesus Christ while the opening of the church doors and singing of ldquoKhrystos Voskresrdquo tells us that the Resurrection is now a reality During the Service on Easter the singing of the hymn ldquoKhrystos Voskresrdquo by the congregation shows the joy and hope felt because of Christrsquos Resurrection The refrain of ldquoKhrystos Voskresrdquo is repeated many times ndash each time with increased emotion In Ukraine and still in some localities today in the United States and in Canada the Resurrection Services are followed by the blessing of baskets of traditional Easter foods After the Service the members of the congregation exchange greetings of ldquoKhrystos Voskres (Christ is Risen) and is answered with ldquoVoistynu Voskres (He is truly Risen)rdquo Returning home to the Easter brunch of Sviachene the traditional blessed foods the father or head of the household first takes one of the hard boiled eggs and divides it into as many pieces as there are family members He offers each one a piece of the egg while saying ldquoKhrystos Voskresrdquo The receiver answers ldquoVoistynu Voskresrdquo and takes the egg This age old ritual is a symbol of the unity of the family and reflects the wish for a good year ahead In Ukraine Easter was always spent at home with the family and even today families separated by many miles will make every effort to be reunited on this happy and holy day

Spring - the rains the warm sunshine heralds the rebirth of life within Nature The dark and coldness of winter is dispelled As if by a miracle the frosts and cold vanishes to be replaced by greening grass budding willows and the songs of birds - the heralders of spring Nature awakens with the promise of new life Our journey through Great Lent and the anguish of Passion Week could be described spiritually as the winter of our soul It is during this journey that we experienced the nature of our souls ndash the soul that St Andrew of Crete addressed in his great penitential canon - the soul that slept unaware of the coming morning Just as spring wakens the sleeping earth Paska awakens our souls to the spiritual spring a new and eternal life in the resurrected Son of God Each celebration of Paska strengthens and reaffirms our faith in His promise And as the birds of spring sing their songs of new life so do

THANK YOU On Tuesday April 23rd we were able to experience the love offered by 8 of our parishioners through the Time and Talents they gave by cleaning and preparing our Church for Holy Week and Pascha This annual event provides all of us with a wonderful opportunity for fellowship sharing and love - love that was shown through the effort made by everyone A very special thank you once again to all who came out to help Mary thank you for coming out and preparing lunch for all of us Щира подяка всім тим хто допомогли чистити церкву Thank you to all once again for supporting the UWAC Pysanka Bingo and Bake Sale on Wed April 17th and Sunday April 21st Thank you to the organizing committee and all the volunteers for their many hours of hard work in the kitchen preparing for both these events Thank you for bringing baking and for your monetary donations Thank you to all who so generously donated money for the Holy Shroud flowers Our parish members and guests contributed just over $120000 May God bless all of you

Spring - the rains the warm sunshine heralds the rebirth of life within Nature The dark and coldness of winter is dispelled As if by a miracle the frosts and cold vanishes to be replaced by greening grass budding willows and the songs of birds - the heralders of spring Nature awakens with the promise of new life Our journey through Great Lent and the anguish of Passion Week could be described spiritually as the winter of our soul It is during this journey that we experienced the nature of our souls ndash the soul that St Andrew of Crete addressed in his great penitential canon - the soul that slept unaware of the coming morning Just as spring wakens the sleeping earth Paska awakens our souls to the spiritual spring a new and eternal life in the resurrected Son of God Each celebration of Paska strengthens and reaffirms our faith in His promise And as the birds of spring sing their songs of new life so do

THANK YOU On Tuesday April 23rd we were able to experience the love offered by 8 of our parishioners through the Time and Talents they gave by cleaning and preparing our Church for Holy Week and Pascha This annual event provides all of us with a wonderful opportunity for fellowship sharing and love - love that was shown through the effort made by everyone A very special thank you once again to all who came out to help Mary thank you for coming out and preparing lunch for all of us Щира подяка всім тим хто допомогли чистити церкву Thank you to all once again for supporting the UWAC Pysanka Bingo and Bake Sale on Wed April 17th and Sunday April 21st Thank you to the organizing committee and all the volunteers for their many hours of hard work in the kitchen preparing for both these events Thank you for bringing baking and for your monetary donations Thank you to all who so generously donated money for the Holy Shroud flowers Our parish members and guests contributed just over $120000 May God bless all of you

THANK YOU On Tuesday April 23rd we were able to experience the love offered by 8 of our parishioners through the Time and Talents they gave by cleaning and preparing our Church for Holy Week and Pascha This annual event provides all of us with a wonderful opportunity for fellowship sharing and love - love that was shown through the effort made by everyone A very special thank you once again to all who came out to help Mary thank you for coming out and preparing lunch for all of us Щира подяка всім тим хто допомогли чистити церкву Thank you to all once again for supporting the UWAC Pysanka Bingo and Bake Sale on Wed April 17th and Sunday April 21st Thank you to the organizing committee and all the volunteers for their many hours of hard work in the kitchen preparing for both these events Thank you for bringing baking and for your monetary donations Thank you to all who so generously donated money for the Holy Shroud flowers Our parish members and guests contributed just over $120000 May God bless all of you
