Zu einem seltsamen Versuch erstand ich mir ein Nadelbuch.To set up an experiment some money I on needles spent.

Und zu dem Buch ein altes zwar, doch äußerst

Ein Reicher auch daneben stand, zween Säcke Gold in jeder Hand.

Der Reiche ging alsdann herfür und klopfte an die Himmelstür.

Darauf Petrus sprach: „Geschrieben steht, dass ein Kamel weit eher geht durchs Nadelöhr, als du,

du Heid, durch diese Türe groß und breit!“St. Peter answered: "It is writ: A needle's eye will

ere permit a camel's body to pass through than this wide gate

make way for you."

Ich, glaubend fest an Gottes Wort, ermunterte das Tier

sofort,I, trusting fully God's

command,at once cajoled the

creature and

displayed behind the needle's eye

a tempting piece of sugar pie.

ihm zeigend hinterm Nadelöhr ein

Zuckerhörnchen als Douceur.

Und in der Tat! Das Vieh ging durch, obzwar sich quetschend wie ein Lurch!

And so indeed! Through went the brute,

although it wiggled like a newt.

The rich man, though, stared gloomilyand said no word but: "Woe is me!"
