as 5 GW by the year 2030 if all the pieces fall into place, astudy by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)has found. Spain’s first CSP plant went into operation in2008, and it is still the only European country withcommercial CSP plants. It has 2.3 GW of CSP capacity, accounting for almost half of the current 5 GW of globalcapacity. CSP activity has shifted from Spain and the UnitedStates to developing countries since 2015, the RenewableEnergy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21) noted inits 2017 annual report. Activity has continued in Europe on apilot scale, including the construction in France of a 9 MWFresnel facility, and the construction in Denmark of a hybridbiomass-CSP facility incorporating 17 MW of CSP, the REN21reported noted. Adaption of Concentrated Solar Power inCement IndustryMost of the talk about renewable energy is aimed atelectricity production. However, most of the energyIndustries need is heat, which solar panels and wind turbinescannot produce efficiently. To power industrial processes likethe Cement Plants, the smelting of metals or the productionof microchips, we need a renewable source of thermalenergy. A large share of energy consumed worldwide is byheat. Heat dominates industrial energy consumption. In theUK, 76 percent of industrial energy consumption is heat. InEurope, this is 67 percent.
