MAGURA motorcycle know-how inspires the growing e-bike sector: reliable brake systems control the brake lights and auto-matic shut-off of the drive. Highlights in the MAGURA product portfolio include the VYRON, the first radio-controlled dropper seatpost, and the MT Trail Carbon disc brake with four brake pistons on the front wheel and two on the rear wheel.

Using the most advanced software, MAGURA engineers work continuously on the further development of the components. MAGURA HS – 30 Jahre sicher, sorglos, zuverlässig

Wenn eine Technologie 30 Jahre nahezu unverändert gebaut wird, ist sie entweder sehr einfach – oder genial. MAGURA HS-Bremsen funktionieren seit ihrer Markteroberung vor 30 Jahren genial einfach – und nahezu unverändert. Das hat sie zu den bevorzugten und beliebtesten Bremsen von Weltumrundern, Alltagsradlern und Technikliebhabern gemacht. Denn die hydraulischen Felgenbremsen aus Bad Urach sind gleicher-maßen sicher und sorglos wie pflegeleicht. Zudem sind sie mit ihrer hohen Bremspower den mechanischen Felgenbremsen weit überlegen. Das erste Modell „Hydro Stop“, wofür HS steht, erzielte in seinem Erscheinungsjahr 1987 gleich den Durchbruch: über 7.000 Sätze wurden von einem einzigen OE-Kunden geordert, für diese Zeit ein Großauftrag.

Einen weiteren Sprung nach vorne machte die MAGURA Eigenentwick-lung, als die neongelbe Raceline aufgelegt wurde – markant und vor allem auf den Fotos von allen Rennstrecken der Welt herausstechend. Die anfäng-liche Skepsis über die Limited Edition verflog schnell. Noch heute gibt es erfolgreiche Sonderserien im MAGURA Programm. Mit der aktuellen HS22 wurde erfolgreich die Lücke zwischen dem Einstiegsmodell HS11 und der Performance-Bremse HS33 R geschlossen. Die HS11 trägt die Features des großen Schwestermodells HS33 R bei bestem Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Bis zu ihrem 30. Geburtstag gingen millionenfach MAGURA HS-Bremsen hinaus in die Welt. Alle Modelle sind „Made in Germany“. Eine deutsche Erfolgsgeschichte, die wohl nur mit dem VW Käfer zu vergleichen ist. Die legendären Bremsen der HS-Familie leben weiter.

Einmalig ist, dass bis heute die gleichen Ersatzteile und Zubehörparts erhältlich und gleichzeitig alle Funktionen auf der Höhe der Zeit sind. Wer vor zwanzig Jahren eine HS-Bremse montiert hatte, weiß noch heute, wie die neueste Generation zu bedienen und zu warten ist. MAGURA HS – 30 years of maintenance-free safety and reliability

If a technology has been produced for 30 years and has hardly changed, it's either very simple – or ingenious. MAGURA HS brakes have functioned in an ingeniously simple way and have remained almost unchanged since their market launch 30 years ago. This has made them one of the most popular brakes of world tourers, everyday cyclists and technology enthusiasts alike – because the hydraulic rim brakes from Bad Urach are as safe and as carefree as they are easy to maintain. And their high braking power makes them far superior to mechanical rim brakes. The first model “Hydro Stop” (HS) achieved its breakthrough in the year it appeared in 1987: over 7,000 sets were ordered by just one OE customer, a major order at that time.

A further leap forward was MAGURA's own development, the launch of the neon yellow Raceline – a striking appearance, espe-cially when seen on the photos of all the world's racetracks. The initial scepticism about the Limited Edition quickly vanished and even today, there are still successful special series in the MAGURA program. The current HS22 model successfully filled the gap

between the entry-level model HS11 and the top performance brake HS33 R. The HS11 has the features of its big sister HS33 R and has the best price/performance ratio. Until their 30th birthday, millions of MAGURA HS brakes went out into the world. All the models are “Made in Germany”. It's a German success story, which can only be compared with the VW Beetle. The legendary brakes of the HS family just go on and on.

It's also unique that the same spare parts and accessories are still available today, and that all the functions are still cutting-edge. Anyone who mounted an HS brake twenty years ago still knows how to operate and maintain the latest genera-tion – so Bad Urach combines history with current technology, which reminds us of another anniver-sary: MAGURA will be 125 years old in 2018!

MAGURA: Architekt der Baustoffe

MAGURA steht in der sensiblen Motorradindustrie und in der Fahrradbranche für höchste Qualität, Zuverlässigkeit und ausgereifte Komponenten durch eigene Produktion in Deutschland. Mit der Entwicklung spezieller Werkstoffe und Verfahren wie Carbotecture® und Carbolay® haben wir Designs und Konstruktionen möglich gemacht, die so kein anderer Hersteller verwirklichen kann. In unseren Produktions- und Montagestandorten Hülben und Hengen, in direkter Nähe zum Ursprungswerk in Bad Urach, haben wir eine extrem wirksame Qualitätssicherung etabliert. Leicht, sehr stabil und gleichzeitig absolut zuverlässige Funktion über Jahre – für unsere MAGURA Bremsen verwirklichen wir diese Aspekte mit mehreren, selbst entwickelten Kunststoffen. Sie Plastik zu nennen, wäre eine echte Beleidigung.

Wir sehen uns als Architekten unserer Werkstoffe: So entstand unser Grundmaterial Carbotecture®, eine Begriffs-kombination aus Carbon und Architektur. Ein Gemisch aus Hightech-Polymeren und Carbon- bzw. Glasfasern wird in mehreren aufwändigen Prozessen zu einem Kunststoffgranulat verwandelt. Während des Verarbeitungsprozesses von diesem Granulat bis zum fertigen Bauteil werden die Carbonfasern optimal auf die Belastungsanforderungen ausgerichtet. Mit diesem Carboflow Verfahren kann aus dem Granulat im Spritz-gussverfahren jede gewünschte Form realisiert werden. Im Vergleich zum klassischen Leichtbaumaterial Aluminium bietet unser Carbotecture® wesentliche Vorteile: Bei identischer Zug- und Bruchfestigkeit von Aluminium ist Carbotecture® 50 % leichter, wiegt also nur die Hälfte! Carbotecture® ist ein Traum-material, jedoch nur durch unsere hochentwickelten Maschinen und Prozesse: glatte Oberflächen in allen komplexen Formen sind möglich. So entstehen unsere steifen und gleichzeitig leichten Bremsgriffe.

Bei unserem Material Carbotecture SL® erhöhen wir bei gleichzeitiger Gewichtsreduzierung diese Widerstandsfähigkeit, indem wir in die Polyamide mittellange statt kurze Carbonfasern

einbinden. Die Bremsgriffe unserer mit Testsiegen ausgezeich-neten MT-Scheibenbremsserie bestehen aus Carbotecture® und Carbotecture SL®.

Ein weiteres Material ist Carbolay®, welches in einem vollautomatischen Prozess hergestellt wird. Dabei werden die Carbonfasern über ein Textilverfahren belastungsgerecht posi-tioniert und in einer Form vollautomatisch mit Harz getränkt. So können Bremshebel in ansprechender und ergonomisch optimierter Form in Carbolay® produziert werden: Perfekte Fingerkraftübertragung durch hohe Steifigkeit bei gleichzeitig geringem Gewicht der Komponenten.

MAGURA – the architect of construction materials

In the sensitive motorcycle and bicycle industries, MAGURA stands for highest quality, solid reliability and mature components from its in-house production in Germany. With the development of special materials and processes such as Carbotecture® and Carbolay®, we have made designs and constructions possible that no other manufacturer can achieve. We have also established an extremely effective quality assurance system at our production and assembly sites Huelben and Hengen near the original factory in Bad Urach. MAGURA brakes are light, very stable and function reliably for many years – and we realise these features with several plastics that we develop ourselves – but the word 'plastics' is actually wrong, because they are so much more!

We see ourselves as architects of our materials and this is how we created our basic material Carbotecture®, a combination of carbon and architecture: A mixture of high-tech polymers and carbon or glass fibers is first converted into a plastic gran-ulate after several complex processes. During processing from the granulate to the finished component, the carbon fibers are optimally aligned to match future stress requirements. In this Carboflow process, injection moulding is used to produce any desired shape. Our Carbotecture® offers significant advantages compared to classic lightweight aluminium material – it is 50 % lighter than aluminium, but with the same tensile and breaking strength! Carbotecture® is a dream material, but it's thanks to our highly-developed machines and processes, which enable smooth surfaces in every possible complex shape – resulting in our rigid yet light masters.

In our Carbotecture SL® material, we increase the resistance by integrating medium-length instead of short carbon fibers into the polyamides and reducing the weight of the material at the same time. The masters of our award-winning MT disc brake series are made of Carbotecture® and Carbotecture SL®.

Yet another of our materials is Carbolay®, produced in a fully automated textile process during which the carbon fibres are positioned to match their future stress loads and then impreg-nated with resin, allowing Carbolay® lever blades to be produced in an appealing and ergonomically-optimised form: perfect finger force transmission thanks to the extreme rigidity and low weight of the components.

E-bikes are booming and are part of the everyday scene in road traffic and off-road. The power of the electric drive is bringing more and more people to e-bikes and many of them simply leave their cars at home. Virtually every type of bike is offered with and without an electric motor drive. The drive makes riders smile, especially ascending hills but downhill, the increased weight presents new challenges for riders and materials.

MAGURA boosted the bicycle trend with the HS brake and mountain biking technology with the legendary Gustav M disc brake. In the development of e-bike brakes, MAGURA draws on more than 90 years of experience in brake and clutch systems for motorcycles. Characteristics of products already proven on motorcycles, such as high reliability and the optimum decel-eration of large masses are transferred to e-bikes. Extreme

heat resistance is also an important criterion for the e-bike. MAGURA produces the MT5e, MT4e and HS33 Re, the first brake systems developed specifically for e-bikes. Their integrated switch can activate the brake light and switch off the drive. Not every e-bike requires a brake light system, which is why the performance of the standard versions of the MT5 and HS33 R also makes them ideal for use on e-bikes.
