On Saturday 9th May 2015, the Thomas Cook Ironman 70.3 Mallorca will take place in Alcúdia. The swim courseis located in the harbour area. The bike course is challenging, the run course is a flat 4 loop course along the beach. The finishing line is about 500 metres from the swim start. Starts at 8am.

During Easter week, you will seethroughout the Island processionsof Catholic ‘penitentes’ dressed inthe colourful robes and tall pointed

hats (capirotes) of their particular fraternity. InPalma there are processions every day, withholy images paraded through the streets. Themost popular is the Santo Cristo de la Sangreprocession that dates from 1154 and involvesmore than 30 different Catholic fraternities.

The Good Friday event in Pollença is probably the most atmospheric. Large crowdsgather at the sides of the Calvari steps towatch the ‘penitentes’ in a torch-lit procession.It starts high above the town, in the companyof Roman soldiers at the Calvari Chapel, andthen descends down the 365 steps of theCalvari into town for a mock crucifixion. The

procession starts about 9pm and you need toarrive early for a good view. ‘Pancaritats’ alsotake place across the Island, usually betweenEaster Sunday and the Tuesday after Easter.The literal meaning of ‘Pancaritat’ is breadcharity and it is a Holy Week tradition datingback to 1407. Typically it involves most of theresidents of a village making a short pilgrimage to a local chapel or holy place fora day-long picnic. The most famous is held atBellver Castle overlooking Palma but many ofthe smaller villages hold their own Pancaritat.It is a chance for the men to show off their cooking skills and for the local teenagers todesign a special T-shirt for the day. Herr Bauer, you have played roles in manyclassics, from ‘Tristan and Isolde’ to ‘Romeoand Juliet’ and ‘Julius Caesar’.The classics are always relevant. Whether it isa Greek tragedy or a domestic drama, thebasic themes of humanity remain the same.Fundamentally people do not change, we justcommunicate differently. But we all suffer, weall hate, we all love and we are all looking forhappiness.You like to open your shows with Goethe’s‘Faust’.When I do readings I like to do a mixture ofclassical and modern pieces, and of courseGoethe falls into that category. When it comesto the theatre, my favourite roles are Schiller’sheroes – Ferdinand from ‘Intrigue and Love’,Don Carlos, Mortimer from ‘Mary Stuart’... We have also seen you in comedies, includingmodern ones like ‘Zwei Frauen, ein Mann undein Baby’. Why do you do this lighter material?One rarely finds a good comedy that also hasdepth. But there are some that really make youthink and get you to see life through someoneelse’s eyes.Do you think it’s true that lighter material likecomedies are easier to market than dramas?

“The people need a voice”

Actor and Tibet activist Ralf Bauer is filming a comedyabout the 40 plus generation, set in Mallorca.

In his performances he isknown to jump up on to tablesand do somersaults. This is the kind of emotion called forwhen Ralf Bauer, with hisfriend Pat Fritz on guitar, performs his shows ‘Bauersucht Christkind’ and ‘Goethegoes Goppfstand’. We met theactor for a wintery dinner inHotel i31 in the centre ofBerlin, and learned by candle-light about his sketch‘Weihnachtslied chemisch gereinigt’ and how he acted out a ‘horny Prometheus’ aspart of his show.

That depends on how they are played. InGermany, comedies are played in a very physical way, which works better here. Takingan emotional approach is really good for tragedies. But it is seldom done inGerman comedies, they are usual-ly more superficial. In this respectGerman tragedies are more interesting, both on the stage andin film. Drama works better on thestage. There’s a different dynamicthere and you have to be largerthan life. Here music provides par-ticular opportunities too, as usingtone and volume you can achievea completely different dynamicand can conjure up somethingthat would just be too difficult withwords alone.As well as acting, you also teachTibetan yoga. Is this different fromIndian yoga?Tibetan yoga differs substantiallywith respect to the animals it isbased on. Over the centuriesyoga masters have observed ani-mals and their movements, andhave integrated them into theexercises. This is best known inthe movement of dogs, the waythey stretch when they’ve beenlying down for a long time. Asyou get different animals in Tibetthan in India some movementsand positions are different. But theeffect is the same. Tibetan yoga isperhaps more genuine and original, because unlike Indianyoga it has not been altered ormodified by hippies or westerngurus when it travelled from Asiato the USA and then on to Europe,and has then often been commer-cialised for a western audience.What is the background to yourpolitical commitment to Tibet?Well it really goes back to my bestfriend, who is Tibetan, and is veryactive in the Tibetan movementherself. She has a restaurantwhere I got to know manyTibetans and learned about theirfate. This moved me to see what Icould do for them, as it is not intheir nature to push themselves

forward. I thought to myself, these people needa voice. Last year I got to know a monk inIndia who had spent 36 years in a Chinesejail. He kept being re-arrested because he

would never give up and he is now 81 yearsold. This quiet determination and self-confidentattitude also characterises the Dalai Lama,who is famous for it and is such a role model

for many westerners.To return to acting: you haverecently been working on a projectin Mallorca. I filmed something there lastautumn. It is a project in whichEsther Schweins, Hugo EgonBalder, Wigald Boning andMartin Luding are also involved, astory that encapsulates the life ofmen and women in their mid-forties, with all the problems thatyou encounter at that age. HugoEgon Balder, for example, plays asinger with a successful song, areal hit. Frustrated by a formerrelationship he sings this song andthat turns him into a quasi-council-lor for women in their mid-forties.Is this generation ready for life onthe Island?Not necessarily. I personallywould not feel at all happy if I hadto live on an island and be totallyreliant on flight and ferry connec-tions. I like to feel that I can goanywhere I like, if necessary on abicycle or on foot. Beautiful asMallorca is, at this stage of my lifeI could not contemplate living onthe Island.You already spend a lot of time inaircraft...That goes with my job – and itdoes provide me with the oddanecdote. Once I had Tibetanincense sticks in my hand lug-gage. They are special ones without additives that you can onlyget over there. But I had to handthem over as I was told they werea hazard because of the dangerof smoke on the aircraft. I had nointention of lighting them onboard, but that didn’t help. I didwonder why paper isn’t bannedfrom aircraft. Because if you litthat, you could really create a lotof smoke on board.

Aber einige gibt es, die zumNachdenken anregen – dazu, das Leben mitanderen Augen zu sehen.Stimmt der Satz, dass sich leichte Stoffe wieKomödien eher zur Vermarktung eignen alsDramen?Das hat etwas mit der Spielweise zu tun. InDeutschland werden Komödien sehr technischgespielt, das funktioniert hier besser. Wennman sich in die Emotionalität begibt, ist das fürTragödien gut. Das wird aber bei Komödien inDeutschland selten gemacht, es bleibt oft beieiner technischen Oberfläche. Insofern sinddeutsche Tragödien interessanter, ob imTheater oder im Film. Auch auf der Bühnepasst das Drama besser, denn dort gilt eineandere Dynamik, man muss größer spielen.Hier bietet übrigens die Musik besondereMöglichkeiten, weil sie durch Töne undLautstärke eine ganz andere Dynamik erzeugt,sie kann etwas herbeizaubern, was mit Wortenallein schwierig ist.Neben dem Schauspiel treten Sie als Lehrer fürtibetanisches Yoga auf. Ist dies anders als dasindische?Das tibetanische Yoga unterscheidet sich

es in Tibet andere Tiere als in Indien gibt, sindalso einige Bewegungsabläufe und Positionenanders. Die Wirkung aber ist dieselbe.Tibetanisches Yoga ist vielleicht noch etwasunverfälschter und ursprünglicher, weil es nichtwie das indische Yoga durch Hippies oderwestliche Gurus variiert und abgewandelt, von

Asien in die USA und dann wieder nachEuropa gekommen ist und dabei oft für denWesten kommerzialisiert wurde.Wie ist Ihr politisches Engagement für Tibet zuverstehen?Das geht vor allem auf meine beste Freundin zurück, die Tibeterin und selbst sehr aktiv in der Tibet-Frage ist. Sie hat ein Restaurant, indem ich viele Tibeter und deren Schicksale kennengelernt habe. Das hat mich dazu be-wogen, den Tibetern, die von sich aus sehrzurückhaltend sind, zu helfen. Ich dachte, dieLeute brauchen eine Stimme. Im vergangenenJahr habe ich in Indien einen Mönch kennen-gelernt, der 36 Jahre in chinesischerGefangenschaft war. Er wurde immer wiederverhaftet, weil er nie aufgegeben hat, und jetztist er 81. Diese ruhige Konsequenz, diesezuversichtliche Geisteshaltung kennzeichnetauch den Dalai Lama, der dafür so bekanntund für viele Westler so vorbildhaft wurde.Zurück zum Schauspiel: Sie haben gerade aufMallorca ein Projekt angeschoben. Ich habe dort im vergangenen Herbst etwasgedreht. Es ist ein Projekt, an dem EstherSchweins, Hugo Egon Balder, Wigald Boningund Martin Luding beteiligt sind. Es ist eineGeschichte, die den Zeitgeist von Frauen undMännern ab Mitte vierzig trifft mit all denProblemchen, die mit diesem Alter einher-gehen. Hugo Egon Balder zum Beispiel gibteinen Sänger mit einem erfolgreichen Song,einem richtigen Knaller. Gefrustet von einerehemaligen Beziehung singt er dieses Lied undwird damit quasi ein Berater für Frauen abMitte vierzig.Ist diese Generation reif für die Insel?Nicht unbedingt. Und ich selbst würde michunwohl fühlen, wenn ich auf einer Insel lebenmüsste und damit ganz abhängig von Flug-oder Fährverbindungen wäre. Ich möchte dasGefühl haben, dass ich mich auf dem Land,notfalls mit dem Fahrrad oder zu Fuß überallhinbewegen kann. So schön Mallorca ist – imMoment käme die Insel für mich alsLebensmittelpunkt nicht infrage.Dabei sitzen Sie viel im Flugzeug ...Das bringt mein Beruf mit sich – und beschertmir einige Anekdoten. Einmal hatte ich tibetische Räucherstäbchen im Handgepäck.Das sind besondere, nämlich ohne Zusatz-stoffe, die gibt es nur da. Aber ich musste sieabgeben, denn man sagte mir, sie seiengefährlich wegen der Rauchentwicklung anBord. Ich hatte zwar nicht vor, sie an Bordanzuzünden, aber das half nichts. Ich habemich nur gefragt, weshalb man nicht sämt-liches Papier im Flugzeug verbietet. Marius Iepure, what for you marks Latin out from all other dance disciplines?Latin is a wonderful combination of sport andartistic expression. I was always mad keen onsport and I played both football and handball.When I started to dance at the age of twelve, I realised I was truly in my element and had found the perfect opportunity to combinesport and creativity. How do you express that with your partnertoday?As an intercultural dance couple we enjoy really special opportunities. I come from Eastern Europe, with its long tradition of ballet,Otlile on the other hand brings her Africanrhythms and attitude to life. It is fascinating and every day we discover something new in our work together.What goals have you set yourself for this year?We would very much like to retain our 2014 title. Taking part in ‘Let’s Dance’ is also a great challenge, and I would really like to win. And if we reach the finals of the world championships then that would be a very good outcome for the year.As Latin dancers how do you feel on the Spanish Island of Mallorca?I’ve been here before but it’s Otlile’s first time,and she feels particularly happy on the Island.Lots of things remind her of her native SouthAfrica, the mountains, the climate and Palma’slocation reminds her of Cape Town, too. We would like to come here more often!

Sie sind Deutsche Meister 2014 in Latin Kür und gelten als große Hoffnung des Tanzsports: Marius Iepure und Otlile Mabuse. Seit 2012 tanzen sie zusammen und gewannen seitdem zahlreicheWettbewerbe. Der gebürtige Rumäne und die achtmalige südafrikanische Meisterin, jüngereSchwester von „Let’s Dance”-Star Motsi Mabuse, ließen sich auf Mallorca von DELUXE-Fotograf Jan Kohlrusch porträtieren. Wir fragten nach den Plänen des Paares für 2015.

Marius Iepure, was hebt Latin für Sie unter allen Tanzdisziplinen hervor?Latin bildet eine sehr schöne Kombination aus Sport und künstlerischem Ausdruck. Ich war immerschon sehr sportbegeistert, habe unter anderemFußball und Handball gespielt. Als ich mit zwölfJahren dann angefangen habe zu tanzen, hatte ich mein Element gefunden – die tolleMöglichkeit, Sport und Kreativität zu verbinden. Wie setzen Sie das heute mit Ihrer Partnerin um?Für uns als interkulturelles Tanzpaar ergeben sichhier besondere Möglichkeiten. Ich komme ja ausOsteuropa mit seiner ganzen alten Ballett-Geschichte, Otlile wiederum bringt die afrikani-schen Rhythmen und deren Lebensgefühl mit. Das ist faszinierend, und jeden Tag entdecken wir Neues bei der gemeinsamen Arbeit.Welche Ziele haben Sie sich denn für dieses Jahr gesteckt?Wir würden gerne unsere Titel von 2014 wieder-holen. Die Teilnahme bei „Let’s Dance“ ist auch eine große Herausforderung, da möchte ich gerne gewinnen. Und wenn wir bei der Welt-meisterschaft ins Finale kommen, ist das eine gute Leistung für dieses Jahr.Wie fühlen Sie sich als Latin-Tänzer auf der spanischen Insel Mallorca?Ich war vorher schon da, für Otlile war es das erste Mal, und sie fühlte sich besonders wohl auf der Insel. Vieles erinnerte sie an ihre HeimatSüdafrika, die Berge, das Klima, auch die Lage von Palma erinnert an Kapstadt. Wir würden gerne öfter herkommen!

Music, theatre, television or a new book? Whatprojects do you have in the pipeline for 2015?For me, 2015 is going to be an exciting year.My new film ‘Härte’, a semi-documentary byRosa von Praunheim for ARTE, in which I playthe mother of Hanno Kofler will be shown atthe Berlinale. It is a difficult subject and verychallenging, and I am curious to see how thepublic will react to it. After that I am filming‘Goblin 2’ in Baden-Baden. Throughout theyear the wonderful jazz pianist Lora Kostinaand I will be touring Germany with our showcelebrating ‘70 years of Joseph Brodsky’, andin the summer I will be appearing in the PiratesOpen Air Theatre in Grevesmühlen, on theBaltic coast. I’m really looking forward to that.You have so many different talents, are therestill things that you really want to achieve,apart from recording a duet with LennyKravitz?Ah, Lenny Kravitz, that would really be some-thing. I've just seen him live in concert and Ilove his music. But to be honest I want aboveall just to be able to continue in my job. I’vebeen acting for more than thirty years, makingpeople laugh and cry, transporting them to adifferent world, and that still makes me veryhappy. I will continue to write and make musicas well, as both of those are simply part of mylife. You currently live in Berlin, is this your favourite city or simply a career decision?I like Berlin, but it was actually more of acareer move. Before I went to Berlin for the TVseries ‘Hinter Gitten’ I couldn’t imagine living

there. The city was just too big. But once youare actually in Berlin, it doesn’t feel so big any-more, because you spend most of your time inyour own neighbourhood. I live inCharlottenburg, just like lots of my colleagues.The infrastructure is good and there’s a colour-ful mix of people. I really like that. You are often seen on the red carpet. Do youhave any tips on how to achieve that glamorouslook?The best thing to do is read the books byGuido Maria Kretschmer. They give you greattips and confidence – every woman is beauti-ful. My tip is always to accentuate the bit ofyourself you like the most. Sadly we don’talways look our best in what is currently infashion. Everyone has their own personal styleand should stick to it, as there is nothing worsethan standing on the red carpet feeling un-comfortable. You travel a lot, both for work and privately.Where is your favourite place to spend yourholidays?I really like Mallorca, and when I can I hop ona plane, even if it’s just for a couple of days.The light, the people, the wide open viewsover the sea and Mallorquin food all help meto relax and give me strength. When I’m on theIsland I always feel immediately at home, Idon’t have to work out where I am and I canfeel the wonderful energy of the landscape. IfI’m going further afield, then I fly to America.Ever since I filmed ‘Menschen, Länder,Abenteuer’ for NDR and experienced on aHarley the incredible feeling of space inCalifornia, it keeps pulling me back. Some of your fellow actors, including JochenHorst and Sonja Kirchberger, live in Mallorca.Is this something you would ever consider?I love them both and I think it’s great that theylive on the Island. I could imagine living heretoo, and there was a time when I looked for ahome on the Island. Even today, I always checkout the apartments and fincas that I think Icould live in. For the past two years I havebeen working on an idea that I would like toimplement on the Island. But it’s all still at theplanning stage, so I’m not ready to talk aboutit yet. I love ‘El Sol’ in Son Serra de Marina, with itspanoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea.Here you can eat delicious fish and squidaccompanied by quiet club music, and at theweekend they have live music. Musik, Theater, Fernsehen oder ein neuesBuch? Welche Projekte planen Sie für 2015?2015 wird für mich ein spannendes Jahr. Aufder Berlinale wird mein neuer Film „Härte“ zusehen sein, eine Halbdokumentation von Rosavon Praunheim für ARTE, in der ich die Muttervon Hanno Koffler spiele. Ein schwierigesThema und eine große Herausforderung, ichbin neugierig, wie das Publikum darauf reagiert. Danach drehe ich den Film „Goblin2“ in Baden-Baden, bin das Jahr über mit derwunderbaren Jazzpianistin Lora Kostina inDeutschland mit dem Projekt „70 Jahre JosephBrodsky“ unterwegs und werde im Sommer auf der Piraten-Action-Open-Air-Bühne inGrevesmühlen an der Ostsee auf der Bühnestehen. Darauf freue ich mich sehr.Sie haben viele Talente ... Gibt es unerreichteZiele, etwas, das Sie gerne noch tun würden,außer mit Lenny Kravitz ein Duett aufzu-nehmen?Ach, Lenny Kravitz, das wäre doch was. Ichwar gerade auf seiner Konzerttour und liebeseine Musik. Aber ganz ehrlich, vor allemwürde ich gern einfach weiterhin in meinemBeruf arbeiten dürfen. Ich bin ja vor über dreißig Jahren als Schauspielerin angetreten,um Menschen zum Lachen und Weinen zubringen, sie abtauchen zu lassen in eine andere Welt, und das macht mir nach wie vorgroße Freude. Dazu werde ich schreiben undMusik machen, denn beides gehört zu meinemLeben einfach dazu. Sie leben zurzeit in Berlin, Ihre Lieblingsstadtoder eine berufliche Entscheidung?

Ich mag Berlin, aber tatsächlich war es eineberufliche Entscheidung. Bevor ich durch dieSerie „Hinter Gittern“ nach Berlin kam, konnteich mir nicht vorstellen, hier zu leben. Die Stadtwar zu groß. Aber wenn man dann in Berlinist, fällt das gar nicht mehr so auf, denn manverbringt die meiste Zeit im eigenen „Kiez”.Ich lebe in Charlottenburg, wie viele Kollegenund Kolleginnen. Die Infrastruktur ist gut, undes gibt einen bunten Menschen-Mix. Das gefällt mir sehr. Sie stehen oft auf dem roten Teppich. HabenSie einen Tipp für einen glamourösen Auftritt?Am besten liest man Bücher von Guido MariaKretschmer. Da bekommt man tolle Tipps undSelbstbewusstsein – jede Frau ist schön. MeinTipp ist, immer das zu betonen, was man ansich am liebsten mag. Man sieht leider nichtimmer in allem gut aus, was gerade angesagtist. Jeder hat seinen eigenen Stil und sollte diesem folgen, denn nichts ist schlimmer, alsauf dem roten Teppich zu stehen und sichunwohl zu fühlen. Sie sind beruflich und privat viel auf Reisen. Woverbringen Sie am liebsten Ihre Ferien?Ich bin unglaublich gern auf Mallorca, undwenn ich kann, setze ich mich in den Flieger,auch wenn es nur für ein paar Tage ist. DasLicht, die Menschen und der Weitblick übersMeer, das mallorquinische Essen, all das lässtmich zur Ruhe kommen und stärkt mich. Ichhabe auf der Insel immer das Gefühl, sofort„da” zu sein, muss mich nicht groß orientierenund spüre die wunderbare Energie derLandschaft. Wenn es dann doch mal weiterweg gehen sollte, fliege ich nach Amerika. Seitich „Menschen, Länder, Abenteuer” für denNDR gedreht habe und die unglaubliche Weitevon Kalifornien auf der Harley erlebt habe,zieht es mich immer wieder dorthin. Einige Ihrer Schauspielkollegen wie SonjaKirchberger und Jochen Horst leben aufMallorca. Ein denkbarer Schritt für Sie?Ich liebe beide Kollegen und finde es groß-artig, dass sie auf der Insel leben. Ich könntemir das auch vorstellen, und es gab eine Zeit,in der ich mich hier nach einem Domizil umge-sehen habe. Auch heute noch gucke ich immerwieder nach Wohnungen und Fincas, auf denen ich mir vorstellen könnte, zu leben.Dazu reift seit zwei Jahren eine Idee, was ichgern auf Insel machen möchte. Aber das allesist noch in Planung, darum spreche ich noch

The ‘Clown’ has his eye on Mallorca

Hard-hitting action is a thing of the past. TV Inspector Sven Martinek (Morden im Norden) is considering a second home

on the Island. Here the actor could bring together his six children, who all live in different parts of Germany.

Herr Martinek, in many of your earlier films,you took on the role of an action hero. Why didyou do this?It was the heyday of the action format, and forme particularly the TV series ‘The Clown’, inwhich I played the leading role. Four years inwhich we made hard-hitting action television.Since then things have changed in television.At that time there were very elaborate pro-ductions, with a lot of money invested in them.They couldn’t really be made today, as theindustry is having to make savings left rightand centre. We then lost out to ‘Big Brother’and ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’, andafter that it was all about viewing figures whichwe couldn’t compete with. The good thing is,we finished on a high and the programme isstill remembered. Wherever I go, people stillwant to talk to me about ‘The Clown’.

Why do crime dramas endure on television,sometimes for decades?It’s the same the world over. People like to readcrime fiction and watch it on television. It always involves stories of extreme relation-ships between people, and those can be toldvery well. In that respect it’s a very rewardingformat. When you look in a bookshop you willsee that a large number of the books are crimefiction.You appear a lot on German television. Did youever consider going abroad?German is my native language. I dream inGerman and as an actor I feel very much athome in Germany. And you can’t just decide to go abroad, especially to America. There it is a

cut-throat business, it would be very difficult toget into, and you really get put through the millin the casting process. Quite apart from thefact that over there, there are already hundredsof actors like me. It is more a matter of gettinginvited to America, like Christoph Walz. Iadmire Christoph Walz very much, not leastbecause in his first American role in‘Inglourious Basterds’ he won an Oscar, too.That made him an insider, but something likethat happens every 50 years or so.How are you building up your career inGermany?I am continuing to film our crime drama series‘Morden im Norden’ which goes out every Tuesday on ARD. The series takes place inLübeck, and once again I play a police inspec-tor, together with Ingo Naujoks. We make agreat team. From March onwards we will onceagain be filming the family drama series‘Tierärztin Dr. Mertens’, in which I play thepaediatrician Christoph Lenz. I really enjoy that, too.How are things in your own family? You havesix children with different mothers. Do yousometimes manage to get them all together?My children live all over the place, and someof them are now old enough to make their ownplans. Getting all of them together at the sametime is difficult, but we manage it from time to time. And then there is Sofia Thomalla, who isa bit like a stepdaughter to me. Her mother,

Simone Thomalla is today one of my bestfriends.You spent some of last year in Mallorca. Couldyou envisage living on the Island?Yes I could, but as a second home, not as mymain residence. I like Mallorca very much, theclimate is wonderful. I love the sea and lots ofmy friends live there. But at the moment, I am not planning to move. As long as I have somuch work in Germany, it’s difficult.Sometimes I spend months on end in Hamburg. Apart from that, my children live in Germany.Moving to the Island would need a lot ofthought. But what I can imagine is spendingmore time in Mallorca.Is there a part of Mallorca that you are particularly fond of?I’m afraid I don’t know Mallorca that well. ButI always feel happy where my friends likeSonja Kirchberger live. I love the scenery andof course the sea, too. Its accessibility fromGermany is another factor in the Island’s favour.And where do you feel most at home inGermany?I am a Berliner, through and through. I grew upin Magdeburg, so I know the West and I knowthe East, but Berlin is simply my city. It isvibrant and alive, and I like that very much. Herr Martinek, Sie haben in vielen Ihrer früheren Filme die Rolle des Actionhelden über-nommen. Woran lag das?Das war die hohe Zeit der Action-Formate,besonders damals beim „Clown“, den ichgespielt habe. Vier Jahre also, in denen wir daknallharte Action gemacht haben. Seitdem hatsich aber in der TV-Welt einiges verändert. Eswaren ja sehr aufwendige Produktionendamals, da wurde richtig viel Geld investiert.Heute ist das kaum noch möglich, in derBranche wird an allen Ecken und Enden gespart. Wir fielen damals „Big Brother“ und„Wer wird Millionär“ zum Opfer, es wurdendann Einschaltquoten gefordert, die wir nichtmehr leisten konnten. Das Gute daran ist: Wirhaben in der Hochzeit aufgehört, und dasFormat blieb in den Köpfen der Leute. Ichwerde heute noch, wo ich hinkomme, auf den „Clown“ angesprochen.Warum halten sich denn Krimis im Fernsehenüber viele Jahrzehnte?

Das ist weltweit so. Krimis werden immergerne gelesen und gerne angeschaut. Es gehtdarin immer um extreme zwischenmenschlicheGeschichten, die man sehr gut erzählen kann.Insofern ist das ein sehr dankbares Format.Auch wenn man sich Bücherläden anguckt,sieht man, dass ein großer Teil des Angebotsaus Krimis besteht.Sie sind vor allem im deutschen Fernsehenaktiv. Hatten Sie je geplant, ins Ausland zugehen?Deutsch ist meine Muttersprache. Ich träumeauf Deutsch und bin in Deutschland alsSchauspieler zu Hause. Ins Ausland, besondersin die USA, geht man auch nicht einfach so.Das ist dort ein knallhartes Geschäft, man gehtdurch eine Mühle von Castings, es wäre sehrschwer, darauf hinzuarbeiten. Zumal es meinen Typ Schauspieler dort bestimmt schonhundertmal gibt. In die USA wird man vielmehr eingeladen, so wie Christoph Waltz.Ich bewundere Christoph Waltz sehr, denn er

hat für seine erste US-Rolle in „InglouriousBasterds“ auch gleich einen Oscar bekommen.Damit war er mittendrin, aber das ist ein Fall,der vielleicht alle 50 Jahre einmal eintrifft.Wie bauen Sie Ihre Karriere in Deutschlandaus?Ich drehe fortlaufend für unsere Krimiserie„Morden im Norden“, die jeden Dienstag inder ARD läuft. Die Serie spielt in Lübeck, undich spiele wieder einen Kommissar, zusammenmit Ingo Naujoks. Wir sind ein sehr gutesTeam. Ab März drehen wir wieder dieFamilienserie „Tierärztin Dr. Mertens“, wo ichden Kinderarzt Christoph Lentz spiele. Auchdas macht mir Riesenspaß.Wie schaut es in Ihrer eigenen Familie aus? Siesind Vater von sechs Kindern unterschiedlicherMütter. Bringen Sie Ihre Kinder manchmal allezusammen?Meine Kinder leben etwas verstreut und sindzum Teil in einem Alter, wo sie eigene Pläneverfolgen. Alle zusammenzubekommen istschwierig, aber ab und zu klappt das. Dazukommt noch Sophia Thomalla, die so etwaswie mein Stiefkind geworden ist. Und ihreMutter, Simone Thomalla, ist heute eine meinerbesten Freundinnen.Sie haben sich vergangenes Jahr auf Mallorcaaufgehalten. Können Sie sich vorstellen, auf derInsel zu leben?Ja, das kann ich mir sehr gut vorstellen, nichtals Hauptwohnsitz, aber als zweites Standbeinschon. Ich mag Mallorca sehr, das tolle Klima.Ich liebe das Meer, und es leben viele meinerFreunde da. Allerdings steht im Moment keinUmzug an. Solange ich noch so viel inDeutschland arbeite, ist das schwierig. Ich binja manchmal über Monate in Hamburgbeschäftigt. Außerdem leben meine Kinder inDeutschland. Den Schritt, auf die Insel zu ziehen, überlegt man sich gut. Was ich miraber vorstellen könnte ist, immer mehr Zeit aufMallorca zu verbringen.Gibt es auf Mallorca eine Gegend, die es Ihnenbesonders angetan hat?So gut kenne ich Mallorca leider nicht. Aberich fühle mich dort wohl, wo meine Freundewie etwa Sonja Kirchberger wohnen. Ich magdiese Landschaft und natürlich das Meer. Diegute Erreichbarkeit aus Deutschland ist ein weiterer Grund, der für die Insel spricht.Und wo fühlen Sie sich in Deutschland amwohlsten?Ich bin Berliner durch und durch. InMagdeburg bin ich aufgewachsen, ich kenneden Westen, ich kenne den Osten, aber Berlinist einfach meine Stadt. Das pulsiert und lebt,und das mag ich schon sehr. Rafael Nadal Tennis Centre set to open in mid-2016

Construction work on Rafael Nadal’s new tennis centre in Manacor, his birthplace, started at the end of November 2014. The tennis player is investing 5 % of the total15 million euros in the centre, which will bearhis name. On a site of 45,000m2, the centrewill house 14 tennis courts, a football pitch, a paddle tennis court and indoor and outdoorpools, as well as a gym with spa. 36 guestrooms for athletes who come to Manacor fortraining are planned, as well as a complexfor talented young players from 8 years old,who in future will also be able to receive an education there. A school will be built that will prepare them for university. The opening is scheduled for mid-2016.

Experience the water as never before

The idea is not new but here it has beenreally elegantly implemented for the firsttime. The Schiller X1 is a water bicycleequipped with two black pontoons andtwo propellers that make it possible to‘cycle’ on the sea at speeds of up to 10knots. Its aluminium frame and multi-speed,pure rotary drive train with Gates CarbonDrive Belts complete its first class equipment. We haven’t seen any Schillerbikes in Mallorca so far, but we can wellimagine that they would be perfect fortaking a trip from the hotel to the nextbeach bar, with great sea views thrown in.

In the middle of January Professor Michael Popp opened the doors of hisnewly restored finca Sa Canova in Sa Pobla in order to revive the tradition of school visits there. With the slogan “Where good thingsgrow”, 250 varieties of Balearic plants are grown at the finca and usedto teach children about them. “We have developed a new educationalconcept with the aim of making students more familiar with the flora andfauna of their native land,” says Professor Popp. The purpose of SaCanova is the preservation of rare plant species. Oranges, lemons, mandarins and almonds, ancient olive groves and very old Mallorquingrape varieties are grown on the 14-hectare site. Food stuffs such as vinegar, oil, ground paprika and jams made from the produce are alsofor sale. “Nature, pleasure and health come together here in a com-pletely unique way,” says Professor Popp, who in 2008 was namedBusinessman of the Year in Germany for the services of his companyBionorica. He has also built Castell Miquel into an internationally success-ful winery. The acquisition last year of Sa Canova gives him the oppor-tunity to contribute to the sustainability of plant life in Mallorca. cMooDY

Unterdem Motto „Wo gute Dinge wachsen“ werden 250 Pflanzen des baleari-schen Raumes auf der Finca gepflegt und das Wissen darüber an Kindervermittelt. „Wir haben ein neues Lernkonzept entwickelt, um Schülern dieFlora und Fauna ihrer Heimat näherzubringen“, so Prof. Popp. Ziel vonSa Canova ist die Erhaltung seltener Pflanzenarten. Orangen, Zitronen,Mandarinen und Mandeln, alte Olivenbaum-Plantagen sowie sehr altemallorquinische Weinrebsorten wachsen auf dem 14 Hektar großenGelände. Daraus gewonnene Lebensmittel wie Essig, Öl, Paprikapulverund Marmelade stehen zum Verkauf. „Natur, Genuss und Gesundheit lassen sich hier auf einzigartige Weise verbinden“, so Prof. Popp, der fürdie Verdienste seiner Firma Bionorica 2008 zum Unternehmer des Jahresin Deutschland gewählt worden war. It is hard for anyone to imaginetoday that many years ago carswere manufactured inMallorca. The fact is that in the1920s two Mallorquin busi-nessmen Antoni Ribas andRafael de Lacy obtained alicence from the French automo-bile manufacturer De Dion-Bouton that gave them the rightto build cars. Up until 1926

they made some 100 ‘Loryc’cars in Palma. In contrast towhat is the trend today, thesewere light, agile two-seaterswith a small engine. They alsobuilt a racing car in the coachworks on Paseo Maritimo. TheSpeedster with its pointed tailwas an important marketingtool at motor races – Loryctook part in a number of racesincluding the legendary LeMans. In 1926 the companyfailed. One of the few re-maining original Lorycs wasbought last year by Germanentrepreneur Charly Boschwho lives in Mallorca. He wasso fascinated by the history ofthis classic car that he boughtthe trademark LORYC. ForBosch, fast cars mean stressand that is absolutely notwhat is required in Mallorca,so he decided to fit his ‘retro-Loryc’ with an electric motor.Bosch has been involved with electric motorsfor 25 years, so for him it was an easy task toremove the petrol engine and replace it withan electric motor and battery. This took himfour days. Since then he has driven some6,000 kilometres on the country roads of theIsland. Because of the comprehensive Euro-pean standards specifications, production ofthe car will probably not start until next year,but Bosch has already established contactswith potential suppliers.

He bought his own Loryc from a Mallorquinfamily who wanted to be sure that their car

would remain on the Island. Bosch has restric-ted its speed to 65 km/h. However, the Lorycthat he would like to produce will have a topspeed of 100 km/h. The battery is designed tohave a range of 250 kilometres, which is veryclever when you consider that the furthestdistance in Mallorca is around 110 kilometres.Bosch is not anticipating selling large numbersof this vehicle for car enthusiasts, even thoughthey will only cost around 50,000 euros.

Markenrechte sichern. Weilfür Bosch schnelle AutosStress bedeuten, den mangerade auf Mallorca über-haupt nicht braucht, be-schloss er, den „Retro-Loryc“mit einem Elektromotor aus-zustatten. Bosch beschäftigtsich seit 25 Jahren mitElektromotoren, und so wares für ihn ein leichtes, denBenzinmotor zu entfernenund einen Elektromotor undAkkus einzusetzen. Vier Tagebrauchte er dafür. Seitherfuhr er rund 6000 Kilometerüber die Landstraßen derInsel. Wegen der umfangrei-chen Anforderungen, die dieeuropäische Norm verlangt,wird die Produktion desWagens wahrscheinlich erstim nächsten Jahr anlaufen –Bosch hat bereits Kontaktemit möglichen Zulieferernaufgebaut.

Seinen eigenen Loryc kaufte der Unter-nehmer von einer mallorquinischen Familie,die sicherstellen wollte, dass ihr Wagen aufder Insel bleibt. Er drosselte ihn auf 65 km/h.Der Loryc, den er produzieren möchte, soll esjedoch auf 100 km/h bringen. Die Reichweitedes Akkus ist auf 250 Kilometer ausgelegt –clever, wenn man bedenkt, dass die weitesteStrecke auf Mallorca rund 110 Kilometerbeträgt.
