Anhang 5: Life of a slave

“I was (1) born in America as a slave.

My (2) ancestors are from West Africa. They were poor, but they had a good

and happy life in Africa. In the evenings, the women (3) cooked food,

made (4) pots with (5) clay and the whole family made music and told stories.

Suddenly, everything changed. Millions of Africans were taken from their homes and sold to America.

The (6) slade trade began. Their journey from Africa to America was really

    (7) cruel. It lasted about eight weeks. They were so many

    (8) captives below deck that the men, women and children did not have much room. Only some of

them could (9) survive on board. In America, the

    (10) conditions weren’t better.

Today we still have to work on big (11) plantations. So many slaves become ill

or even die. At night when we finish our work, we are really tired.

But there is some hope. Some months ago, (12) protests began. Lots of slaves try to show that they

want a better life for their children.”
