Schritt 1 — Battery

Use a coin to rotate the batterylocking screw 90 degrees clockwise.

Lift the battery out of the computer.

Schritt 2 — Keyboard

Pull the keyboard release tabstoward you and lift up on thekeyboard until it pops free.

If the keyboard does not come free,use a small flathead screwdriver toturn the keyboard locking screw 180degrees in either direction and tryagain.

Flip the keyboard over, away fromthe screen, and rest it face-down onthe trackpad area.




Schritt 3

If the computer does not have anAirport card installed, skip the nexttwo steps.

Push the wire clasp toward theAirport card and pull it up to free itfrom the RAM shield.

Schritt 4

Grasp the clear plastic tab on theAirport card and pull toward theright.




Schritt 5

Hold the Airport card in one handand use your other hand to removethe antenna cable.

Schritt 6

Remove the two 2.5 mm Phillipsscrews that secure the RAM shield.




Schritt 7

Grasp the metal bracket on top ofthe RAM shield and pull upward toremove the shield.

Schritt 8

Pull the keyboard cable up from thelogic board, holding the cable asclose to the connector as possible.




Schritt 9 — Lower Case

Your laptop should lookapproximately like this.

Schritt 10

Continue to run the spudger aroundthe front, right corner. There are twotabs on the port side of the




computer, one near the front cornerand one near the sound out port.

Schritt 11

Remove the three 5.2 mm newly-revealed Phillips screws.

Schritt 12

Use a pin (or anything you like) toremove the three rubber feet fromthe lower case.




Schritt 13

Use a spudger or small flatheadscrewdriver to pry up the three metalrings that housed the rubberbumpers.

Schritt 14

Remove the one 10 mm and two 20mm hex screws using a 2mm hex.Alternatively, a T8 Torx screwdriverkey will do.




Schritt 15

Remove the two 4.2 mm Phillipsscrews on either side of the batterycontacts.

Schritt 16

Breathe deeply. Trying times areahead, but we promise the lowercase does come off.

Push the thin rims of the lower casesurrounding the batterycompartment in, bending them pastthe tabs, and then lift up to free thatcorner of the lower case.




Schritt 17

There is a slot on the wall of thebattery compartment that locks thelower case in place. Use a smallflathead screwdriver to pry out theslot's lower rim and pull up on thelower case to free the slot from thetabs holding it.

Schritt 18

Run a spudger along the seambetween the lower case and uppercase on the front of the computer tofree the tabs locking the lower case.Pull up on the lower case andcontinue to use the spudger asnecessary until you hear threedistinct clicks.




Schritt 19

Once the front and sides of thelower case are free, turn thecomputer so that the back is facingyou and pull the lower case up andtoward you until the back tabs popfree (it may be helpful to jiggle thecase up and down).

Schritt 20

Remove the small greasy springswith white plastic caps from eitherside of the battery contacts.




Schritt 21 — Upper Case

Remove the following 4 screws onthe bottom of the computer:

Two 3 mm Phillips from the leftside of the computer.

One 4.5 mm Phillips near thelatch mechanism (this screw maybe missing in 800 MHz iBooks)

One 14.2 mm Phillips near thefront, right corner.

Schritt 22

Use a straightened paperclip toopen the optical drive tray.




Schritt 23

Pull the optical drive out just enoughso that you can access and removea Phillips screw near the batterycompartment.

Schritt 24

Pull the optical drive a bit more sothat you can access and remove asecond Phillips screw near thepower receptacle.




Schritt 25

Turn over the computer and open it.

Use tweezers (or a refrigeratormagnet) to remove the magnetcovering a Phillips screw near themiddle of the computer.

Schritt 26

Remove the following 4 screws onthe edges of the keyboard area.

One 4.5 mm Phillips underneathwhere the magnet was.

Three 6 mm Phillips in plasticdepressions.




Schritt 27

Peel up the foil tape covering thespeaker cable near the ports.

Schritt 28

This is a diagram of the trackpadribbon clamp connector you willdisconnect in the next step.

1) With your fingernails, grasp thelocking bar on either side and pullup a small amount (about 1/16" or 2mm).

2) After disengaging the locking bar,slide the cable out of the connector.




Schritt 29

Loosen the trackpad connector bypulling the top piece up slightly,freeing the trackpad ribbon.

Slide the orange trackpad ribbon outof the connector.

Schritt 30

Before you can jerk the upper caseoff with joy, you must disconnectboth the blue and white power cable




and red and black speaker cable asdescribed in the next steps.

Lift the upper case from the left sideand use your other hand to pull outthe right side in order to clear thepower receptacle.

There may be a thin metal barfastened to the upper case by thetwo screws on either side of theoptical drive. This bar providesrigidity around the optical drive; don'tforget it when reassembling.

Schritt 31

The connectors at the ends of thecables are attached very firmly tothe sockets on the logic board.Pulling directly on the cable willeither separate the cable from itsconnector or the socket from thelogic board.

Lift the upper case enough todisconnect the blue and white powercable from the logic board. Usingyour fingernails or a dental pick,carefully pry the connector from itssocket. Make sure you're pullingonly on the connector and not on thesocket.




Schritt 32

Lift the upper case off completelyand disconnect the red and blackspeaker cable from the logic board.As before, make sure you're pullingonly on the connector and not on thesocket.

Schritt 33

There is a magnet that allows thecomputer to detect when the laptopis closed. If this magnet is notpresent your computer will notautomatically go to sleep. Be surethe magnet is in the positionindicated.




Schritt 34 — Top Shield


Schritt 35

Remove the following 14 screws(some models may be missing acouple of screws):

One 2.5 mm Phillips.

Six 3.5 mm Phillips.

One 4.5 mm Phillips near thesleep light with a small shaft.

Two 4.5 mm Phillips with largershafts.

Four 5 mm Phillips

If a screw is inserted in the lefthole, the 14.2 mm screw in step24 can not be inserted to hold thetop case down.




Schritt 36

Peel back three strips of yellow tapein the bottom left corner.

Peel back one strip of foil tape in theupper left corner and another nearwhere the trackpad connects to thelogic board.

Schritt 37

Lift the top shield up from the rightside, minding the upper left corner,which may catch on the metalframework.




Schritt 38 — Modem


Schritt 39

Remove the single strip of taperunning across the modem.

Remove the single Phillips securingthe display data cable to the metalframework.




Schritt 40

Move the display data cable to theright in order to access and removea single Phillips screw.

Remove the single Phillips screwremaining at the upper, right cornerof the modem.

Schritt 41

Lift the modem from the logic boardon the right side, being careful not tostrain the display data cable.

Disconnect the modem cable fromthe left side of the modem.

Slide the modem out of thecomputer, being careful to avoidcatching the black plastic shieldingon the surrounding cables.




To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
