Hoofdstuk 1 Marktomvang en groeivooruitzichten

1.A Marktomvang

In dit rapport wordt onder "Technisch textiel" omschreven: textiel voor geo en bouw, agro, tuinbouw

en visvangst, defensie, bescherming en veiligheid, voertuigen, medische doeleinden, transport en

verpakking en industriële toepassingen (filtermedia, enz.).

Volgens de Amerikaanse sector‐organisatie IFAI (Industrial Fabrics Association International) bestaat

de Amerikaanse sector van technisch textiel (of ‘specialty fabrics’) uit 7000 bedrijven, waaronder

1500 toeleveranciers (vezels, materialen, verdelers, uitrusting en diensten) en 5500 fabrikanten van

producten waarin technisch textiel verwerkt is. Het merendeel van deze 5500 fabrikanten zijn kleine

bedrijven.

De Amerikaanse markt van technisch textiel kent een sterkere groei dan de markt voor traditionele

textielproducten; in 2014 nam de vraag naar technisch textiel vooral toe bij de Amerikaanse

producenten van auto’s, lichte vrachtwagens en boten (zie grafiek 1)

1.B Groeivooruitzichten

Aangezien technisch textiel in diverse economische sectoren wordt aangewend, zal de toekomstige

Amerikaanse vraag naar technisch textiel nauw samenhangen met de verwachte economische groei

in de VS. De economische groeivooruitzichten in de VS zijn positief voor de komende jaren (zie tabel

1).

Een andere belangrijke indicator voor de toekomstige vraag naar technisch textiel, is de evolutie van

de Amerikaanse bouwsector. Ook deze vooruitzichten zien er de komende jaren positief uit. Eén van

de belangrijkste rapporten omtrent de Amerikaanse bouwsector wordt jaarlijks gepubliceerd door

Dodge Data & Analytics. Hun meest recente rapport, de ’2015 Dodge Construction Outlook’ voorspelt

dat de Amerikaanse bouwsector met 9% zal groeien in 2015, hoger dan de groei die opgetekend

werd voor 2014 (+5%).

Verwacht wordt dat de bouw van commerciële gebouwen (bv. kantoren, hotels en magazijnen) met

15% zal toenemen in 2015. De bouw van scholen, ziekenhuizen en andere institutionele gebouwen

zal toenemen met 9 % en de bouw van huizen en appartementen zal toenemen met respectievelijk

11% en 7% in 2015.

De markt voor Amerikaanse openbare werken (o.a. bruggen, wegen en milieu‐infrastructuur) zal een

groei kennen van 5% in 2015, na een daling van 9% in 2014. Tot slot wordt verwacht dat de bouw van

nieuwe industriële fabrieken met 16% zal dalen, aangezien deze sector enorme groeicijfers heeft

laten optekenen voor 2014 (+ 57%) en 2013 (+ 42%).

1.C Belangrijke marktsegmenten technisch textiel

Technische textiel gebruikt voor militaire & veiligheids‐toepassingen

Eén van de grootste afnemers van technisch textiel in de VS, is de defensie sector. Zo verbruikt het

Amerikaans leger elk jaar 190.000 tenten! Ook wordt technisch textiel gebruikt bij speciale

uniformen die door het leger, de politie en de national guard gebruikt worden. Het Amerikaans leger

beschikt over een onderzoekscentrum, NSRDEC (http://nsrdec.natick.army.mil/), waar onderzoek en

ontwikkeling uitgevoerd wordt naar ‘smart textiles’. In 2014 heeft NSRDEC voor de eerste keer een

‘textile industry day’ gehouden, waarbij de nieuwste ontwikkelingen inzake ‘textile technologie’

Om te kunnen toeleveren aan het Amerikaans leger, zal het wel nodig zijn een productievestiging in

de VS te openen. Er is namelijk een wet, het ‘Berry Amendement’, die het Amerikaans leger verplicht

om bepaalde producten, waaronder textielproducten, aan te kopen bij Amerikaanse bedrijven met

productievestigingen in de VS. Textielproducten die aan het Amerikaans leger worden geleverd,

Bouw : geosynthetische stoffen

Volgens IFAI zijn er in de VS 50 lokale producenten van geosynthetische stoffen. De jaarlijkse vraag

wordt geschat op 800 miljoen m². Aangezien de markt voor Amerikaanse openbare werken een

groei zal kennen van 5% in 2015, zijn de vooruitzichten positief.

Bouw : textielstructuren en ‐constructies

Het gaat hier bv. om textielstructuren die voor schaduw zorgen op auto‐parkings, speelplaatsen van

scholen, en textielstructuren die gebruikt worden bij residentiële en commerciële bouwprojecten. In

al deze segmenten zijn de vooruitzichten voor de komende jaren eveneens positief (zie info

bouwsector hierboven).


Automotive : technisch textiel voor wagens en vrachtwagens

IFAI schat dat er gemiddeld 32 m² technisch textiel gebruikt wordt per voertuig. De huidige markt

wordt dan ook geschat op 368 miljoen m². Het Center for Automotive research verwacht dat de

productie van motorvoertuigen in de VS slechts matig zal toenemen in de VS (+0,9%) in 2015 (zie

grafiek 2), dus de markt voor ‘automotive textiles’ zal zich stabiliseren in 2015.

Een andere belangrijke toepassing van technisch textiel zijn de dekkleden voor vrachtwagens

(=’truck covers’). Deze vraag neemt toe, aangezien de productie van vrachtwagens volgens de MAPI

foundation (https://www.mapi.net) de laatste jaren sterk gestegen is in de VS (+15% in 2014 en een

verwacht groeicijfer van 9% in 2015).

Technisch textiel voor boten

Ook bij boten wordt er veel technisch textiel gebruikt, bv. dekzeilen voor boten. Ook deze vraag zal

toenemen in de VS, aangezien MAPI voorspelt dat de Amerikaanse schip‐ en bootproductie met 9%

zal groeien in 2014 en 3% in 2015.

Technisch textiel gebruikt in grafische toepassingen

Volgens een schatting van IFAI zijn er in de VS 1750 bedrijven actief in de grafische industrie, die

technisch textiel bedrukken voor publiciteitsdoeleinden en displays. Het technisch textiel dat

hiervoor gebruikt wordt is voornamelijk van polyester (33% van de gebruikte vezels), gevolg door

vinyl gelamineerd polyester (26% van de vezels) en nylon (17%) (zie grafiek 3 hieronder).

Hoofdstuk 2 Invoerstatistieken technisch textiel

In dit hoofdstuk wordt een overzicht gegeven van de Amerikaanse invoerstatistieken van

verschillende categorieën van technisch textiel. De Amerikaanse invoerrechten op deze producten

situeren zich tussen de 4 en de 8 %. Het gaat om de volgende rubrieken :
