Strengthen yourself, our par-ish, and the whole world by spending one hour in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. Adoration is every Wednesday (9am to 10 pm) and Friday (9 am to 6 pm). Call 816-719-2293 to schedule an hour or email [email protected]

The PRESENTATION of the LORD Sunday, February 2nd

The Presentation of the Lord pulls many favorite mementos from the Catholic cupboard: candles, blessings, and Christmas. The Mass of February 2 begins with a blessing of lighted candles held by the faithful, who glow with the memory of the birth of Jesus. The true significance of the feast concerns Jesus coming to the Temple. He is the Promised One, whose light will shine, beaming rays of hope to all the world. Since it is a feast of the Lord, it takes precedence even when it falls on Sunday. The candles you hold for the blessing may come from your parish, or you may bring your own from home. If you like to use blessed candles for household prayer throughout the year, here is your chance to bring them for the blessing. The next day, February 3rd, we commemorate St. Blase, a bishop

and martyr of the early church. Legend has it that he once freed a

child from choking, and while imprisoned under persecution he

received light from friends who visited his cell with candles. The

church uses candles from the Presentation of the Lord in the

blessing of the faithful’s throats on St. Blase’s Day.

Blessed candles in our churches and homes signify the living

presence of Christ in our community. With Christ as our light may

we share His blessing , warmth and light as we seek the lost in

Christ’s name.

BLESSING of the CANDLES will take place at

the 9am mass NEXT SUNDAY February 2nd.

Please bring candles from home that you will

use in prayer in the coming year.

Save a life by donating blood on February 13th between 1 and 7 pm in the Parish Hall. It’s never known when your blood type will be needed by a patient. That’s why the CBC is like a bank where you can make a deposit that waits for someone’s need. To make a deposit, you may walk in anytime during the drive and be out the door within the hour. To make an appointment go to saveal-ifenow.org/group and use the code JI to get your desired time or use the direct link in the church newsletter.

Support the Troops Ministry is seeking contact information for anyone who may have family members deployed overseas. This ministry would like to add them to the care package list. Send the mailing information to Suzanne via email at [email protected]. This is a wonderful way to support the men and women in the military deployed to know we at St. Ann care and are praying for them.
