At Austrian train stationsrefugees can find many peo-plewhocanhelpthem.Thesecanbevolunteers, staffmem-bersofaidorganizations,em-ployees of the Austrian Rail-way or police officers. Theycan be recognized by theiruniforms, a t-shirt or a namebadge. They answer questi-onsandhandoutfood,drinksand fresh clothing. They canalso be helpful in finding aplace for therefugee tospendthe night or take a shower ortoorganizemedical care.

Do I have to stay in the countrywhere my fingerprints were ta-ken? Can I continue to travel toanother country (like Germa-ny) and seek asylum there?

TheEUregulationDublin IIIdetermines the EU country thatis responsible for asylum pro-ceedings. In principle, the refu-geemust seekasylumin the firstSchengenmember state he/sheenters. Inmostcases therefugeeis registered with fingerprintsthere.
