All of them are named after German States. Built in 1996 to replace the Hamburg-class destroyers, these frigates primarily carry out antisubmarine warfare, as well as providing a task force command platform. They are also fitted with a flight deck, able to carry two SEA LYNX helicopters, in order to conduct sea survellaince and anti-surface warfare. Their design includes stealth features. The ship can accommodate up to 250 people, including not only the crew, but also a boarding team and staff members. The frigate Mecklenburg-Vorpommern took part in various operations, including the United Nation mission off the coast of Lebanon and Operation Enduring Freedom at the Horn of Africa. Since August 2016, FGS Mecklenburg-Vorpommern takes part to periodical deployments as EUNAVFOR MED operation SOPHIA asset. OVERVIEW Frigate
